Gettin Away is out now on all platforms!
Lou is a rapper, singer, and lyricist from Los Angeles, CA. He’s an independent artist who just dropped his EP Gettin Away, which is available to stream now on all platforms.
The 5-track EP showcases Lou’s skills as an artist, and set the tone for just what he’s capable of. Each track is uniquely different and has a smooth, melodic sound. Some standouts on the EP include “WE$tside” and “Gettin Away” ft. Teate and Lovxll. On both tracks, Lou drops some memorable verses and truly puts his singing abilities on display.
On the EP, Lou takes listeners on a sonic journey with him and transports them to space. He talks about getting off Earth because of America’s current climate, and moving to space instead to “get away” from it all. His style of music positions Lou as a storyteller in the purest form.
“I’d have to say my sound is soulful but sometimes aggressive when it comes to certain thoughts and clearing out your mind,” Lou said in a recent interview. “Cause truthfully everything in this life isn’t always happy, joyful, or uptempo.”
Lou fairly new to the game and just started pursuing his music career in February 2019, but he’s been on a roll since then and has been nonstop putting in work. It’s clear to see that the talented artist is dedicated to his music, as each release is more impressive than the previous.

What city are you from/ Where are you based now?
Born and raised in Los Angeles, CA, but moved to New York for college. I’m currently based in Los Angeles again.
What is your artist name? What is your real name? How did you get your artist name?
My artist name is Lou simply because it’s short for my real name Louis. I decided to roll with this name because I wanted to really just be myself, not going out the way to create a name that is not me.
At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music?
February of 2019 is the first time I ever recorded and heard my voice in the studio, I haven’t stopped since and it’s helped me in ways I couldn’t imagine.
Has your upbringing played a role in shaping who you are and defining your sound today? If so, how?
My upbringing has definitely shaped the person I am today, I’m thankful for it. In many ways I’m learning more things about myself now then when I did when I was younger. My sound is coming from actually using my inner voice to talk about the things that have always been on my mind. Whether it’s the past, present, or future.
How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you?
I’d have to say my sound is soulful but sometimes aggressive when it comes to certain thoughts and clearing out your mind. Cause truthfully everything in this life isn’t always happy, joyful, or uptempo. Sometimes I can be very introspective, which helps me write a story that people can understand and relate to.
What ultimately inspired you to dedicate yourself to a music career?
The fact that I wanted to transition my poetry into music. I felt it was time to make a leap with my art and I was thinking of the best way in which I could do it. All roads led to writing, singing, rapping my own poetry through music.
What’s one reason you are passionate about music and what inspires you?
I’m passionate about this music because it’s given me a way to really express myself. By doing this it’s making me dig deeper into myself, understanding more of who I am, while creating music to inspire others. It sometimes shocks me when people really reach out and are understanding a situation in a song I’ve written for myself but they can relate to whatever it is my thoughts were at that time. To be able to inspire others to become better for themselves is also a piece of my journey. It’s important to help yourself first, it makes it easier to help and love those around you. That’s what inspires me.
Do you have any hobbies outside of music? What do you do to stay creative?
Recently bought my first keyboard, i’ve been wanting one from the beginning but constantly been putting it off. But now that I have it, that’s really my go to. It helps my writing, also with singing.
Who are some of your main musical influences?
Main musical influences come from my grandparents’ generation of Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Luther Vandross but then a combination of the overall influence of hip-hop & the many ways stories can be told have shaped me.
What are some of your music career goals for the future?
Right now moving independent has shown me a lot, I’ve learned a good amount in this short time period that I’ve entered the industry. It’s a pivotal time but a goal of mine right now is to continue to create my best music and expand with distribution plus marketing.
Tell us about your latest project, your EP Gettin Away. What is it about?
I just released my first 5-track EP called Gettin’ Away. It’s pretty much a concept EP where I’m fed up with this Earth that we live on and I’m moving to space. I’m hoppin’ in my shuttle and getting out of here based on the build up of experiences which now have placed us in 2020 living in America. So you can look at it as a trip — you’re going with me on a trip to these different locations.
What has the response been like to that project?
The responses and feedback have been amazing. I appreciate every single person who has either commented, called me, text me, dm’d, or whatever because it means a lot to know people are actually listening.
What are some projects you’ve done in the past that you are most proud of and why?
This is my most up to date project that I am proud of. I’m proud of my first mixtape but this new one is something special to me especially because of the year we’ve all been experiencing. I’m blessed to be able to deliver music during this time.
What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects we should be on the lookout for?
What’s next for me is an album. A full album. One that I genuinely take my time with, curating exactly who I want to work with in the collaborative space. Live music, production and everything that will make this something great to share with the world. Also have visuals coming for a couple music videos so stay tuned for that.
What message do you hope fans take away from your music?
Growth is a continuous part of the journey and as long as you’re willing to face certain trials in life and not run, you can make it through anything. The middle of that growth might not always be the easiest either, but the other side of that struggle is what makes it worth it. Just want the fans to know things won’t always be perfect but continue to push. Definitely some beautiful days to live in this life.
