Long Beach’s Tauvaa draws a line in the sand with “Meauli Boy”

Richard Smith is a 25 year old artist from Long Beach, California who is affectionately known as Tauvaa. The story behind “Meauli Boy” is the tale of a half Black, half Samoan male growing up in a city where division amongst different races lead to dangerous conditions he had to face on a daily basis growing up in a gang infested city. In Samoan culture, the term Meauli means “Black”, and being that he was looked at as different because of his mixed race by family and friends alike, identifies with the name “Meauli Boy”.

On his latest project “Meauli Boy”, Tauvaa gives you a first person account of a young man who struggles to fit in, until finally embracing the fact that he stands out. On the intro track “Top Of My Game” Tauvaa exudes confidence, flexing over a spacey instrumental. On “Thank God” he really gets in his bag as he wakes up and thanks God for another day and uses his extraordinary God given flow to show his gratitude. All 4 Da $$$ is another standout as Tauvaa spews hustler raps over a funky sample creating a get money anthem for years to come. While the project starts out with braggadocios energy and packed with G-Funk influence such as on “Strap Out”, it ends on a more humble and serious themes with songs like “Cold Truth” where he says “Momma can’t teach the boy how to be a man, running to them dollars like the boy got a plan”. The project ends with a heartfelt “Outro” where he raps over a sentimental piano instrumental, holding nothing back. Tauvaa is on a sandy beach, facing the Pacific Ocean, etching his name “Meauli Boy” in the sand and daring anyone to try and wash it out.

24kGoldn and Iann Dior receive their first No. 1 spot on Billboard Hot 100

Columbia Records signee 24kGoldn and Iann Dior’s collab single Moodhit the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart today.
The song’s summery, rock-tinged instrumental pairs seamlessly with 24kGoldn’s carefree yet infectious hook. “Why you always in a mood, f****ing ‘round acting brand new, I ain’t tryna tell you what to do,” he sings.

Iann Dior’s accompanying verse is equally as electrifying and draws heavily from his emo-pop influences. The Texas native croons about his inability to maintain relationships with the women in his life singing, “I could never get attached, When I start to feel, I unattach, Somehow I always end up feeling bad.”

Dior and Goldn’s collaboration helped build hype for Internet Money’s first album B4 The Storm, a collection of 17 songs featuring rising star signees like Dior and Lil Tecca as well as rap heavyweights like Gunna, Trippie Redd, Future, and many others.

21 Savage and Metro Boomin drop a “Chopped & Screwed” version of ‘Savage Mode II’

Atlanta natives 21 Savage and Metro Boomin infuse their new album Savage Mode II with a genre of rap popularized by Texas emcees in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. Chopped and Screwed, popularized by the late great DJ Screw, slowed rap songs down to the point where the artists sounded like they were dozing off while recording. However, Screw and his group, Screwed Up Click, lit Texas on fire and eventually brought the sound to the mainstream with UGK and Three 6 Mafia’s “Sippin on some Syrup.” Since then, everyone across the rap spectrum from Lil Wayne to Travis Scott draws influence from Chopped and Screwed.

In order to pay homage in the best way possible, Savage and Metro enlisted the help of veteran chopped and screwed producers DJ OG Ron C & The Chopstars. The tape has gained support from many Texas OGs including Three 6 Mafia’s DJ Paul.
