Baltimore’s ZayZayy drops off highly-anticipated new album ‘Start of Forever’

The new project dropped in late-January and is already turning heads.

Up-and-comer ZayZayy delivered his highly-anticipated sophomore project Start of Forever in late January. The Liberian-born rapper’s new album features six songs soaked in the pain of his past, including “Demons” which features DMV legend Shy Glizzy.

ZayZayy, born Loomis ZayZay, has been building a buzz in Maryland for the past two years with songs like “Poles Ina Whip,” “GSHOCK,” and “Cover Up.” Raised in the gritty streets of Baltimore, Loomis uses his music to vent about his turbulent upbringing.

“Music allows me to be myself, get my head off my shoulder, and gives me an ear when I just need someone to listen,” the young rapper explained in an interview with Remixd Magazine.

Much of ZayZayy’s music depicts using drugs to mask the pain of loss, losing friends and family members to prison, and trying to elevate himself from the mistakes of his childhood.

Loomis’ first project, BeyondThenakedeye, was the first cohesive body of music where he was able really to express all of these events.
“I was finally able to open up and think I found my sound because of that project,” ZayZayy stated.

Ultimately, ZayZayy looks to connect back to his Liberian roots by going back to Liberia to create more opportunities for people to make music. “I’m African so music isn’t seen as a successful career,” he said.

Looking towards the foreseeable future, the Baltimore native has a single with Detroit up-and-comer Babyface Ray called “Cold” and an EP on the way!

Stay tuned for more from ZayZayy and check out his album Start of Forever!
