H.E.R. heightens anticipation for upcoming album with new single “My Own”

H.E.R.’s ‘Back Of My Mind’ is set to drop June 18.

With countless Academy-award winning achievements under her belt, singer/songwriter H.E.R. plans to release the debut album Back of My Mind tonight at midnight (June 18). This album includes an exclusive short film and 21 tracks with collaborations from the likes of Ty Dolla $ign, Lil Baby, & DJ Khaled. H.E.R.’s previously released singles such as “Come Through” with Chris Brown, “Slide” with YG, “Hold On” and “Damage” has fans around the world ready to engulf themselves in this soulful summer album.

“My Own” could not have been a more perfect finale of released singles from Back of My Mind. As H.E.R. provides a deep maturity to each song she creates, “My Own” embodies how important it is to have self-awareness; accepting the ups and downs you may face after an intense break-up and to accept these emotions with grace. H.E.R.’s exquisite songwriting has the power to provide a song that can be extremely relatable to anyone who listens. It is clear that this upcoming album will continue to prove why she is the current leading force in R&B today.

H.E.R. previously sat down for a cover interview with Variety, where she spoke about how she incorporated elements of rock to elevate her album’s sound:

“I didn’t wanna pull out all my tricks at once. My first few [releases] were just a small piece of who I am musically, and it was a matter of time before I could reveal others. I’ve always been a huge fan of Coldplay and Led Zeppelin and Radiohead and alternative and rock and blues, but it wasn’t until this album that I started digging into those other elements and bringing them to R&B.”

Be sure to listen to H.E.R.’s brand new single “My Own” while also looking out for her debut album Back of My Mind dropping tonight.

Kendrick Lamar is currently celebrating two milestones. Not only does the west-coast rapper turn 34 today, his 2012 certified triple platinum album good kid, m.A.A.d city just hit the 8-year mark (roughly 450 weeks) on the Billboard 200 chart. Considering this is a rare accomplishment for an album, especially in Hip Hop, it is fair to say Kendrick has plenty to toast up about this evening.

good kid, m.A.A.d city is still the longest-charting Hip Hop album in Billboard history. The project debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and earned Kendrick four Grammy Award nominations at the 2014 Grammys, including Album of the Year. With songs produced by Dr. Dre, Just Blaze, Pharrell Williams, and Hit-Boy, one can not deny Kendrick created a masterpiece that will continue to stand the test of time in Hip-Hop. The album holds classic records such as “The Recipe,”“Swimming Pools (Drank),”“Backseat Freestyle,”“Poetic Justice” and “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe.”

With Kendrick Lamar’s recent headline announcement at the Day N Vegas festival in November, fans wonder if they can expect new music from one of the most influential rappers of our generation. To fuel this thought, earlier this month, rapper The Game suggested that a new Kendrick album is on the way and that he is dropping music “real soon.” It has also been reported that Lamar has six albums worth of material to pull from according to MixedByAli’s “The ETCs” podcast.

All in all, let’s continue to celebrate Kendrick Lamar’s legacy of continuing to make history. Stream good kid, m.A.A.d city on all platforms today.
