Gusto is back with new release "Frozen Heart," ft. ZayZayy

Baltimore Ravens running back Gus Edwards, better known now as Gusto, has officially entered the ring of musically-inclined athletes. Gusto has formally taken his talents to the studio, and listeners are more than pleased by the outcome.

Music and sports are two worlds that have a pattern of feeding off each other, and these are lanes in the entertainment industry that often merge beautifully. It is not unusual for fans to see their favorite sports MVP drop a mixtape (i.e., Damian Lilliard, Iman Shumpert, or Victor Oladipo, to name a few) or notice a famous rapper sit courtside and hi-five players on the big screen during halftime. Often times, these rappers are involved in making a majority of the music playing in the arena.

Gusto has officially made music a creative outlet, and he shows how he can execute plays on and off the field with the new single “Frozen Heart,” featuring ZayZayy. Following his last single, “Pray For Me,” he has a pattern of releasing upbeat tracks that describe his transition of careers and the trials he has faced during his rise in the music industry. While Gusto is relatively new to making music professionally, rapping is a passion he has always carried under his sleeve and is more focused than ever to turn his music career up a notch in 2022.

“I’ve always known I wanted to pursue a music career, but I didn’t always have the time to focus on that aspect of my life,” expressed Gusto in a recent interview with Remixd Magazine. “When the pandemic started and the whole world was forced to stop their usual routines, I took the opportunity to spend time getting back into my music. Now I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”

Gusto’s single “Frozen Heart” dives deep into how specific life experiences can have the power to make an innocent heart turn cold. Gusto voices the circumstances of betrayal, the loss of love, and the loss of those close to you; his lyrics sympathize with how these encounters could mentally take a toll on someone. Gusto plans to create transparent music for his listeners as he makes an effort to connect sincerely and personally.

“Seeing the support I get from people who like my music and seeing their reactions to how they feel when they play my songs have been my proudest moments so far,” continued Gusto. “Those feelings are priceless. I hope my fans see my development as an artist in this song and can have a song to relate to.”

With inspirations from the likes of Rod Wave and Lil Wayne, Gusto’s Liberian roots also drive his influence from the African artist FireBoy. As Gusto rises in his career, he has plans to collaborate with African artists in the future to incorporate more of his culture into his music. Gusto is an artist who stays true to himself and his craft. Be sure to look out for him as he continues his journey climbing up the charts.

Music is therapeutic for me. Getting my thoughts out through music and knowing people can relate to the things I’m thinking keeps inspiring me to continue. “
