Cory J drops off first single of the year “Play It Cool”

R&B is in safe hands, and looking at another stellar year.

West Oakland CA’s Cory J continues his impressive run of singles with his new buttery record “Play It Cool”.

Slowing it down with his first single of the year, the Soul/R&B crooner opens the year with this mellowed-soothing number reminding us that our relationships are to die for on this steamy record.

“This song is about that one shorty you got and everyone wants what y’all have. The homegirls wish they had it. Haters hating but, it’s no need to ‘play it cool’ you still better ‘act up…’” he told us of the honeyed record.

The track sees him and his girl’s relationship at the center of attention, as depicted in the cover art – a feeling many of us resonate with.

Although being in a relationship can be an interpersonal affair between two people, it’s inevitable that we don’t live in an island and that there are always going to be people around us whether friends, family, associates, society, and the extended internet followers who will get involved in our business one way or another.

On this track, Cory explores being in an almost toxic love where two lovers are intimately & fully focused on one another without distractions, but he knows there are distractions.

The instrumental is somberly arousing, the drums are just perfectly placed, his gingerly vocals lay on top of the music feverishly and this makes for a well-knit all round song to drive to late at night or light candles to on a night in.

If you’re trying to play a girl you like some music, start the night off with this one.
