For Westside Webb, music is all about doing what he wants to do. Everything about how crafts his songs comes from a place of natural feeling and synergy. His process can be partially credited to how he began making his way into the industry. “As a producer first, music talks to me. Not the lyrics, the overall aspect and sound.” Despite his natural attraction to music, his mind wasn’t set on following that path. It wasn’t until he realized that he wanted to put his dedication into something he loves to do.
“I feel like music speaks a foreign language and only a few understand… It makes my soul feel good, it makes me happy to see people heavy while listening to something I created from scratch.”
Before Westside Webb began developing his sound, he started out behind the boards in 2012. By 17, he began producing records under the moniker “West Made This”. So for almost a decade, Webb was molding his smooth California sound that balances his LA and Bay Area influences. Once 2021 came around, he made the decision to start a solo career as an artist.
Because of his established background, his sound comes off a lot more polished than most newcomers. His raspy voice and West Coast delivery meshes well with the bouncy production. In his eyes, he makes “feel good music”, as mixes in the vibes that makes his songs a groove with his real life experiences that gives them substance.
The same intentions apply with his new album, Player Games Part 1. On here, Westwide Webb taps harder into his ultra-cool side and delivers a solid project. His seasoned ear for clean regional sounds and relaxed flow leads the way as he celebrates the player lifestyle. Ironically, the theme’s inspiration comes from the beat for the title track. “[The beat] was extra smooth and player. So after I came up with the hook for the song, it all hit me that this is going to be the name of the tape series.”
With Player Games Pt. 1 now available, fans can look forward to a quick follow-up from Westside Webb. The “Can’t Relate” lyricist has said he’s still in album mode and will have Pt. 2 ready before the year ends.
