Doechii drops off new track “B-tch I’m Nice”

Recently named a 2022 XXL Freshman, Doechii also had two fiery television performances of her hits “Persuasive” and “Crazy”: One on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and the other on the mainstage on the BET Awards, of which Vulture said “While everyone in L.A.’s Microsoft Theater rose to their feet, I felt invigorated, like I could kick someone’s ass…Doechii’s fiery performance didn’t just snatch her own wig: It snatched everybody’s.”

The Swamp Princess also performed at the prestigious Essence Festival in New Orleans, was nabbed as the RADAR US Cover Artist at Spotify, the VEVO DSCVR Artist for June, the BET Artist of the Month for June, named a Billboard Queer Game-Changer for Pride, and now as MTV’s Push Artist for July.

Rolling Stone and The LA Times named “Persuasive” as one of the ‘Best Songs Of 2022 So Far,’ while Complex listed “Crazy” as one of the ‘Best Songs of 2022 So Far’ and NPR picked her as an artist to watch, stating “and “Crazy” lets us know she’s coming in swinging.” Together the combined streams across both songs total more than 20 million.

“Persuasive” and “Crazy” and are testament to the breadth of Doechii’s sound and talents. Doechii has dominated the internet since the release of her unwaveringly original EPs— 2020’s Oh the Places You’ll Go and 2021’s BRA-LESS—and the single Yucky Blucky Fruitcake, which has generated over 35 million streams on Spotify alone.

In addition to featuring on Isaiah Rashad’s “Wat U Sed,” she was named one of Spotify’s “Most Necessary Artists to Watch in 2022” and tipped as an Artist To Watch by Complex, XXL, Rolling Stone, Pigeons & Planes, and Hiphopdx.

Atlanta rapper Ken Carson releases versatile major label debut album “X”

oday, rising Atlanta rapper Ken Carson unleashes his hotly anticipated major-label debut album, X. Listen HERE via OPIUM/Interscope Records. The 20-track opus includes the emotional single “The End,” which is accompanied by a striking black-and-white video that trended on YouTube this week. Watch it HEREX is available now at all digital retailers.

Equal parts enigmatic and prolific, Carsonrepresents a shift in melodic rap. On X, the 21-year-old continues to carve out his own space in the rager lane, showcasing more versatility than ever before while honing the signature sound that propelled him to prominence. Carson’s artistic growth is on full display across the album, especially on highlights like “New,” which feature the artist’s silky vocals gliding over glitchy beats.

Other tracks such as “Freestyle 1” and “Freestyle 2” showcase Carson’s melodic flow, demonstrating a balance of cadence control and lyrical mastery, while “Gems” strikes a harmonious balance between melodic crooning and iron-cut bars. The Atlanta upstart also exudes confidence and poise on “Murda Musik,” “Nobody,” and current single “The End” — delivering distorted earworms that are simultaneously catchy and affecting.

On X, the spotlight stays on Carson, with the only features coming from his Opium labelmates Destroy Lonely and Homixide Gang. The breakout rapper is coming off the success of his 2021 mixtape Project X, a hedonistic trip that embodies the spirit of youthful nihilism.

In 2020, with plenty of downtime during the Pandemic, Carson began dropping a series of EPs including Boy Barbie and Teen X, the latter of which blew up on SoundCloud and Spotify with viral hits such as “Yale.” In 2021, he shared Project X, which received praise from PitchforkHipHopDX, and other tastemaking outlets. Carson opened 2022 with a placement on Yeat’s 2Alive track “Geek High” and continued to build momentum with loosies such as “Teen Bean.”

With X, Carson shows he’s continuing to level up, refusing to be put in a box, and trusting his voice more than ever before.

Rising artist 250z unveils new 12-track project ‘Mixed EmotionZ’

Statesville, NC rap renaissance man 250z has unveiled his boisterous 12-track project, ‘Mixed EmotionZ’

Dropping a day before his birthday, the LP was preceded by the record’s singles “That Mode” and “Who Done Said Some.” A permeating short vlog that gave us a sneak peek into the brooding star’s creative process would later follow suit. The featureless Mixed EmotionZ arrives boasting a vivacious rap effort from Statesville’s emerging voice, lining up a solid chunk of soulful trap bangers.

Benchmarked by crackling songs that showcase the raconteur’s depth – the opus sees 250z more meditative than ever. He ponders on his troubled past filled with painful instances of robbing, stealing, slaving for a minimum wage, and other areas in his personal life where he feels he gets no respite. The gloomy cloud of lack is a major motivation to the project, much like touching subjects more so the loss of his grandmother, which he touches on on the purging number, “Hold On (Demons).”

“This project was inspired from the emotions of my grandmother passing, and then my uncle but also, the emotion of experience in new places, new studios, meeting new people, traveling and making better music, and truly coming out of that pain stage” he said in an interview.

Born Isaiah Thomas, the project feels like a conduit into his soul through music, with thumping beats, sometimes sprinkles of rock guitars, and notwithstanding very outstanding vocal performances such as on songs like “All For You” on the chorus.

The explosion of emo street hip hop is exemplified in the LP. The prevalent theme of overcoming adversity at the expense of anything and anyone is highlighted vibrantly. On a line on “Hold On” he echoes this sentiment – “I used to be really hitting them licks with no mask cause I wanted niggas to see” as he also fights back emotion in the same song offering duality “I hold tears run down my face while I’m writing this song” among a slew of moments on “250” and “Ball On Me” where he lets his guard down, and actually humanize him.

The believability of 250z tone is almost excessive in the way his delivery cuts across. This granular of soul-incisiveness, befitting production, and prolific crooning by melodic hip hop rappers has stemmed rappers like MO3, NBA Youngboy, Rod Wave, No Cap and others to the dizzying heights of stardom, and this is an identical nuance reflected on Mixed EmotionZ.

As 250z braces to place his bow on Hip Hop and music lore, he maintains music is the only way he can express himself, or that he actually finds solace in as an actual talent. He tried basketball and school, but his struggles in those fields, simultaneously with his ability to sing that was encouraged by his late grandmother, have enabled him to go the whole way with music. He also intimates that his music is driven by the struggle.

“Well it sucks but my creative process really comes from the pain I have around me and family problems making me want to make better music,” he says. “With better music comes a better chance I can see my family and change situations.”

The project’s artwork also shows layers to his thought process, by paying homage to Pablo Picasso’s famous cubism style of art.

Ricci Bamboo shares sentimental song “Papa”

Ricci Bamboo is a special brand of artist. He is a longevity-endeared artist that understands the power of music & hopes he can leave a positive legacy through it.

Equipped with a West Indian background, Toronto roots, and a Miami upbringing, this informs the producer’s cross-cultural style of production.

Even from his moniker, Bamboo is a thoughtful craftsman. Bamboo is a pervasive species of plant that takes time and effort to establish its root system, but once it does, it grows at record speed.

Growing up in a “rough” environment pushed him to be bold, confident, and unapologetically authentic. He gravitates towards originality and uniqueness, as he has seen practiced by his favorite artists. Bamboo recognizes that “Music has always been used as a form of entertainment and an influence. Regardless of what your message is, you’re influencing people. Their moods, their belief systems… you’re influencing something in their life.” His mission is to make music that he is proud to stand behind as it outlives him and reaches generations to come.

On his latest effort, the music producer taps kinetic music-producer David Meli to star on their poignant number, “Papa”.

“Papa” released on Father’s Day is an emotionally driven song that emphasizes the lost role & importance of fathers in the life of our children and youth today.

The soothing record delivers a much-needed powerful message of how fathers are a pertinent factor to the upbringing of the youth, especially in todays generation where children can easily find parental muses in social media, single-motherhood is a rapid pandemic, and other forces such as work can play gate-keeper between the relationship fathers have with their children.

There are different undertones and incentives the track offers, especially the fact that todays music does not play a particular enticing role in providing substance or direction to the youth, further intimating how important the presence of fathers is in their young ones lives when growing up.

Additionally, he confronts the emasculation of men today and feels his impactful music can empower more men to take their rightful place as brothers, fathers, and more in the societal and family structure.

Familiar with the facts, Bamboo teams up with Tomflix production to deliver a resounding music video that captures the songs’ message.
