Meet Cydnei Chyan, rising R&B artist up next from Atlanta, GA

Cydnei Chyan is a singer/songwriter born in Indianapolis, Indiana and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. She blends hip hop and neo-soul melodies to create a unique sound of her own, which is evident in every release.

“I want to bring poetry and rap to R&B,” Chyan says in a recent interview.

Specifically, her song “Change On Me” showcases her vulnerable side and discusses the moment when realizing a person who you thought was forever doesn’t have your best interests. Chyan tells RemixdMag that a breakup inspired this song.

“Honestly a break up inspired this song,” she tells us. “When a person you thought would love you forever changes it tends to put you in a state of confusion.”

It’s clear to see where she gets her inspirations from, as R&B legends such as Aaliyah, Anita Baker and Erykah Badu serve as just some of her inspirations and helped her to create an overall feel good vibe throughout her music. Cydnei’s main objective is to give you her story in melodies and 808s that evokes emotion. “R&B with a bounce,” she says. Combined with her melodic vocals and engaging lyrics, Cydnei Chyan is one to watch this year.

Keep reading to learn more about Cydnei Chyan and read her interview with us below:

What city are you from/ Where are you based now?

Indianapolis , based out of Atlanta

What is your artist name? What is your real name? How did you get your artist name?

Cydnei Chyan, my real name is Cydnei Chyan Mcguire. I just chose to keep my name as my artist name

How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you?

My sound is very melodic and raw but still soft. I would say “trap n b” because of the beats I choose. I want to bring poetry and rap to R&B.

What’s one reason you are passionate about music and what inspires you?

Music is how I express myself. Music is literally about or my everyday life . Life inspires me honestly. The people around me. I’m such a creative, I gain inspiration from everything .

Who are some of your main musical influences?

I was raised on a lot of hip hop. But Tamia, Ashanti, Aaliyah are some of my main influences.

Tell us the name of the project you are currently promoting? What inspired this project?

The song is called “Change on Me.” Honestly a break up inspired this song. When a person you thought would love you forever changes it tends to put you in a state of confusion.

What is this project about in your own words?

The song is about finally realizing the person you thought was forever doesn’t have your best interest and just me really telling them I have to now switch up and distance myself because you switched up.

What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects we should be on the lookout for? Include some dates if you have them.

I’m working on an EP ! I’m hoping to release by October.

What message do you hope fans take away from your music and from this project?

I hope that fans listen to this song and relate honestly. It’s hard to really face your emotions . I want this song to really provoke an emotion that it’s okay to let go of something and it’s also ok to not want to . My music is for people wanting to heal. People wanting to really dig deep and start to make sense of how they feel after traumatizing situations take place like heart break.
