Review: Ice Spice drops surprise EP ‘Like..?”

Ice Spice serves a whole lot of sass (and class) in her latest EP, Like..?

Coined after the Bronx goddesses’ short catchphrase, the 6-track offering provides a combination of blood-pumping drill beats entirely produced by her right-hand producer, RIOTUSA. On a lyrical scale, Ice Spice speaks about zoning out the hate and focusing more on herself. At the same time, she proves track after track that she’s really that girl. Her pen game bleeds through a steady cadence and clever punchlines.

From rejecting a man’s advances to pointing out why certain females “move wock‘” a la “Princess Diana,” Ice Spice shows that the only opinion about ourselves that should matter is our own. By cheering yourself on, you’re bound to win for life.

Later in the song she proclaims, “They be chattin’ I don’t give a damn, I’m still getting money, I know who I am”.

Despite having tough skin, Ice Spice finds a moment to bare her heart. In the Lil Tjay-assisted single “Gangsta Boo,” she shoots her shot at a man who carries himself to a high standard. Unlike others, the New York native doesn’t have to do much convincing. Her sophistication is enough to win him over. “Gangsta Boo” connects upbeat drill elements with a sped-up sample of Diddy‘s “I Need A Girl Part 2.”

The other two records, “Princess Diana” and “Actin’ A Smoochie,” continue to mirror a strong side of independence from the “Munch (Feelin’ U)” chart-topper.

Fleeting from her signature sound, Ice Spice flows over a breezy Jersey Club-styled beat in “Actin A Smoochie.” In this record, she vows to commit to herself and her goals. The femcee isn’t concerned with being in a relationship at the moment. In like manner, the envy from females only motivates her to go harder.

“Princess Diana” is an extension of the previous song’s theme. In two and a half minutes, she deems herself the supreme ruler over her mini-me’s.

“B—ches not takin’ shit from me but notes/ wanna be me, so she do my emotes, and my name in her mouth, so I bet she gon’ choke,” she delivers.

Like..? features some of her hottest records like “Munch (Feelin’ U),” “In Ha Mood,” and “Bikini Bottom.” As of today, the EP has entered the top 5 on Apple Music.

Dallas’ very own $ir J drops off new EP ‘Back2Bidnezz’

$ir J is a Dallas, TX based artist who’s on the rise. His music can be described as having a “hipster vibe” to it, and each release becomes increasingly more anticipated as audiences witness the growth in between projects. His recent 5-track EP he released on NYE is called ‘Back2Bidnezz’ and definitely has some certified bangers on it. $ir J definitely stands out and apart from his peers, with everything from the beat selection to his cadence being unique and non-typical. This is an important aspect of discovering new artists these days, as the diversity of an artist is everything that a listener wants.

“From my music, I’m a hype artist,” $ir J says. “I love having fun. Have fun when you listen. I make a few sad songs but not many because I love positivity and embracing yourself. Don’t get me wrong I’ll make almost anything and I plan on executing my versatile wordplay and deliverance this year. On my project. Even if you struggling, hurt, sad, or just tired keep going so you can truly get to whatever you love and #Back2Bidnezz.”

The project has a few standout songs including “Happy Gangsta,” and “Slide.” These two tracks are a cool introduction to who $ir J is and what he sounds like. All in all, when asked about what this project is about, $ir J simply responded, “It’s about handling Bidnezz.”

“You could start off a ‘Happy Gangsta’ before you start feeling like you have to ‘Slide’ for a person or a reason,” he explains. “Get your ‘Bidnezz’ handled elevate and don’t look back.”

It’s TeeHee style in my words. If you had to pinpoint it with a more general category it would be a hipster vibe with mid to low conscious bars and a sprinkle of spicy talking rock rap.

What’s one reason you are passionate about music and what inspires you?

I’m passionate about music because it’s such a diverse and unique language. People dance to it, they memorize it, they recite it, and most importantly they remember it. Music is a legacy of you and your creative watermark on the world. I’m influenced by the culture. The positive aspects of it that is. Networking with other artists, live major performances, not to mention how many other avenues that can be unlocked with the right supporters and fanbase.

Who are some of your main musical influences?

Big L, Lil Wayne, 8Ball & MJG, Playboi Carti, Ludacris

Tell us the name of the project you are currently promoting? What inspired this project?

Back2Bidnezz. I was inspired due to some wild events that were occurring in 2022. I was so mentally and emotionally drained I started feeding my brain more positive energy and information. In the middle of all of the events I told myself if I get through everything I’m dropping this tape and turning up everything about my life.

Date that this project dropped or is set to drop?

It’s already out, it dropped NYE 2022.

What is this project about in your own words?

It’s about handling Bidnezz in the middle of all situations. You could start off a “Happy Gangsta” before you start feeling like you have to “Slide” for a person or a reason. Get your Bidnezz handled elevate and don’t look back.

What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects we should be on the lookout for? Include some dates if you have them.

This year I have big things coming. A lot of BIG THINGS. I have a joint project with another artist. Big D0LLA Bill. The tape will be called “GetThemBillsJACK”. We’ll be rolling this out mid March. I also have an abundance of videos I’ll be dropping this year. “On Hip” is a popular single that’ll be getting one and a few others as well.

What message do you hope fans take away from your music and from this project?

From my music. I’m a hype artist. I love having fun. Have fun when you listen. I make a few sad songs but not many because I love positivity and embracing yourself. His project, ‘Conflict of Interest,’ which is an 8-track project that showcases RTC Profit’s lyricism and flow in different ways throughout the compilation. Standout tracks include “Dystopia,” “Wisdom of Solomon,” and the title name “Conflict of Interest.” The Calgary born artist has a contemporary take on conscious lyricism, which displays versatility over many types of soundscapes.

With a promising career in music, audiences should tap into RTC Profit sooner than later. Given this artists’ consistency and nature to produce quality content, it’s sure enough he’ll turn a fan out of anyone.

Remixd Magazine got a chance to chat more with RTC Profit, read more of the interview below:

What’s one reason you are passionate about music and what inspires you?
I have always loved music since I was young. From soul to gospel, calypso to R&B, music  was always playing in my household growing up. I always gravitated to hip-hop  because of the clever wordplay that you would have to rewind to catch. My music is  inspired by life experiences and I aim to convey them in a way that’s insightful and  thought provoking.

Who are some of your main musical influences?
My musical influences are wide ranging, including Oscar Peterson, Erykah Badu, Marvin Gaye, Nas, Freddie Gibbs, Black Thought and Prodigy.

Tell us the name of the project you are currently promoting? What inspired this project?
I released two projects in 2022. ‘Persona Non Grata’ in April and ‘Conflict Of Interest’ in December. The inspiration for both projects was the concept of maintaining one’s morals and character regardless the setting and circumstance.

What is this project about in your own words?
The motivation and theme behind ‘Conflict Of Interest’ is exhibiting resilience and finding peace while not being shifted by the different situations that life presents us with.

What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects we should be on the  lookout for? Include some dates if you have them.

In terms of music, the goal this year is to release 2 albums, each being a collaborative  effort between myself and producers I have worked with in the past. One album with DDWAVE and another with GreeneryyBeats. No set release date yet but both are in  the works.

What message do you hope fans take away from your music and from this project?
As with all of my music, I aim to provide motivation and insight within the references  and wordplay. I like to drop jewels within the records that won’t always be caught on  the first listen so that people can takeaway something different every time they  press play.

504Yung takes you through the ‘Ups & Downs’ in his latest EP

The new project includes a feature from Detroit’s Icewear Vezzo

New Orleans native 504Yung just dropped off his latest EP, ‘Ups and Downs,’ and audiences already can’t get enough of it. The project is a 5-track EP that includes “My Past,” “Direction ft. Icewear Vezzo,” “Bank Roll,” “Gettin Jiggy,” and “Win,” – this is a project that showcases 504Yung’s versatility and ability to be lyrical and thought-provoking over infectious beats.

The New Orleans-native says his inspiration behind this project is based on his personal life.

“I based it off my life because with any trials and tribulations you are going to have ups and downs,” he says.

Trials and tribulations ultimately fueled 504Yung’s passion for music. It’s through the art of creating music where 504Yung can share his life experiences whether they are good or bad.

504 Yung hopes his supporters will be able to relate to him through this body of work ‘Ups and Downs,’ based on the fact that it’s relatable.

“I want them to know it’s a good body of work that I put together,” he says. “The people that support my music will be able to relate [to it].”

Influenced by the likes of artists such as Hot Boyz, Nelly, and Lil Wayne, listeners could expect to hear an authentic New Orleans sound mixed with the modern sound of music. Overall, what 504Yung hopes for his listeners to take away from listening to ‘Ups and Downs’ is that, “Nothing is wrong with starting from the bottom and working your way up to the top. You will appreciate it better.”

As for what’s in store for the future for 504Yung and his career goals, he hopes to be able to elevate in his music career and gain new connections. He also has his clothing line, Rich Off Profit, in which he hopes to have in more stores. As well as another project releasing called “Rich Off Profit 2”.

Rising artist Schlish is someone to keep on your radar this year

DC artist Schlish keeps the momentum going with outstanding visual “Abandoned”

The Washington D.C. maverick also opens up on new release “Abandoned”

Recording and performing artist Schlish is in sixth gear. As artists are getting acquainted with the fresh new year, Schlish is wasting no time and is already dropping undisputed tracks and forcing his peers to keep up along the way. He recently dropped off a new visual called “Abandoned,” which is a flaunty new song that showcases Schlish’s skills in a way audiences haven’t seen yet.

This year alone, the Washington DC artist who pairs storytelling, transparency and soul into his rhymes over a vast majority of beats, Schlish (which means laid back) has already embarked on an onslaught of pressure releasing three tracks over the course of the last couple of months.

Following up on the momentum of recent tracks, “Shady,” “Legend (Open Mic Freestyle),” and “Abandoned,” prove how his work ethic and impetus make him one of the artists that should be on your radar for the new year.

“I plan to release very often,” he admits in a recent interview. The track “Abandonded” is about Schlish prevailing despite the odds. Schlish is cognizant his upbringing plays a major role in his music content.

“Though I’m in a negative upbringing, I want people to know you can believe in yourself,” he says. “Because music is my outlet to vent and to say how I feel, most of my songs are based on situations in my life or other people’s lives I’ve been around. A better life inspires me to get my family in a better position to see them win.”

“My sound is just real, I can give you goosebumps with my stories, and I can be the voice for the people,” he continued.

A student of rappers such as Hov, Boosie, and Pac –  Schlish underscores the 90s which have been his muse in how they have helped manufacture his style and wordplay.

With seven projects under his belt, his most recent full length release Schlish World was a textbook into street savvy, self awareness, and chronic ambition.

From aspirations to start his own label, be on charts, owning podcasts that can impact the youth positively, there is a lot to look forward to for one of the most lyrical and innovative acts out now in Schlish.

Check out the visual for “Abandoned,” below.
