Blxst hosts ‘Just For Clarity 2’ release party ft. Russell Westbrook, Larry June, JELEEL, & more

Blxst

Following a career-defining year culminating in his first two GRAMMY nominations and spots on prominent “Best of 2022” lists, hip-hop’s most exciting artist Blxst has returned today with the next chapter to his 2021 EP, Just For Clarity 2. Out via Red Bull Records/EVGLE, the four-track package includes his December release, “Keep Calling” (12 million streams) with chart-topper Larry June, alongside rap’s leading tastemakers Roddy Ricch on the stand-out single, “Passionate,” and Mustard and Terrace Martin on the love bomb, “Ghetto Cinderella.”

Blxst shares, “‘Passionate’ is bigger than a song to me. I like to look at it more as a mindset, especially working with Roddy on this record. I think it’s dope to see somebody’s success go from zero to a hundred, especially somebody from the hometown. I just remember us being in a studio before anybody knew who we were and we had that same drive and passion. This track is a look back at that, seeing where we were, where we are, where we’re going, and what brought us here today.”

The EP is stacked with some of LA’s most talented stars in the game, all of whom have hustled their way to the top. It’s an ode to that dedication and a home-coming project for Blxst, one that defines his role in the city with confidence and humility. Through that lens he finds clarity in the present, artistically reflected in the visuals surrounding the EP.

He adds, “Just for Clarity 2 is the second installment of a project I put together for my supporters to have an update of what’s going on in real time. When I think of clarity, I think of being clear and getting straight to the point. It’s a moment for me to vent and be honest and transparent, which is a theme throughout the EP. I call it a flawless four pack because it’s intentionally short and sweet, but it’s also an appetizer before the debut.”

Blxst kicked off 2023 with two iHeartRadio Music Awards nominations, up for “Best R&B Artist” and “Best New R&B Artist.” These follow a string of accolades across his exponential growth last year, including wins at the XXL Awards for “Best New Artist of the Year,” Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players for “Rookie of the Year,” and the AIM Awards for “International Breakthrough Artist.” Capped by his track record of 2+ billion career streams, Platinum and Gold certifications for singles “Chosen” and “Overrated” respectively, radio hits, and a sold-out headline world tour, Blxst is only just getting started.

Hitmaka comments about Hit-Boy not receiving radio-play has sparked a producer war

Hitmaka is known for having fire beats and even hotter takes about his producer peers. He recently commented on Hit-Boy which sparked a trade of words and bars.

Hitmaka is an elite record producer and songwriter. He began his career as an artist under the name Yung Berg where his debut single “Sexy Lady” made waves across the industry. Since then he has transitioned into a full-time producer, songwriter and executive.

He has production credits on singles such as Lil Durk‘s “Still Trappin“, Layton Greene‘s “Leave Em Alone” and PNB Rock‘s ABCD (Friendzone). Alongside writing credits on hits such as A Boogie wit da Hoodie‘s “Startender“, Chris Brown‘s “Questions” and Big Sean‘s “Bounce Back“.

Besides the astonishing catalogue, the producer has been known to engage in banter with his producer peers.

His current feud resides with Hit-Boy, which started due to Hitmaka comments on Hot 97. The producer was a guest on Ebro in the Morning and stated Hit-Boy music isn’t on the radio.

“See, I’m on the radio. Hit-Boy is not on the radio I love Hit-Boy. Hit-Boy is a legend. He’s a legendary producer. He been doing it way longer than me. He’s a great guy. But I’ma keep it a bean though, if you play the soundtrack to your life for the last four or five years on radio, I know it’s gotta be frustrating with him because our names are so similar, my brother. But Hitmaka. Nah, shout out to Hit-Boy, we love him.”

Hit-Boy was quick to respond with a snippet of a song making comments on the situation.

“I just seen Yung Berg spoke on the wave/I should do him like Trick Trick and snatch hit out of his name, I had the code to the game/I had the coldest of days/I’m like Deebo on his cruiser/How you got no credits with no coproducers?/It’s time to give these ni***s the royal flush/no Roto-Rooter.”

Hit-Boy also poked a jab at Metro Boomin within the same record, rapping “I’m usually homeboys with producers I get compared to, but on this one I want to say I’m stretched out, extra leg room/ I don’t really know dude, he seem like a cool cat/ But I never once heard Metro Boomin do boom bap”

Boomin simply responded with Kendrick Lamar‘s “Rich Spirit” lyrics in a tweet.

Adding more fuel to the diss track he mentioned other producers Mustard and Southside.

Hitmaka responded with a comment on HipHopDX’s Instagram post stating “All I said was he ain’t making radio/mainstream shit and he dissed us on a beat that won’t never touch mainstream or radio. Solidified my statement.” He also jokily compared the record to Kendrick Lamar’s prolific feature on Big Sean’s “Control” where he called out the entirety of hip-hop.

Hitmaka is no stranger to calling out producers, back in 2021 Hitmaka and Mustard traded blows based on who would in a Verzuz. Hitmaka was on The Joe Budden Podcast and boldly stated he could beat Mustard. The two producers ended up engaging in trading tweets and flexing accomplishments.

Track Review: Numbas, Bentley Green – kill em all (Ball)

Gruesome 305 rap star Numbas is back with another fitting track. A characteristic anthem to his street-leaning rap aesthetic, Numbas delivers yet another scathing take on being successful over his haters with “Kill Em All (Ball)”.

Lauderdale rapper Bentley Green hops on the track to send it home with a textbook verse.

Numbas, Bentley Green – Kill em all (Ball) Review

In a whispery hook, Numbas and Bentley show off their chemistry as they recite the chorus together with a looming cadence.

On the backdrop of a Bruh Bruh Play The Beat (BBPTB) laced instrumental, BBPTB delivers a glistening trap beat with plenty of groove and melody. Supplemented with different sound effects such as vocal samples and glimpses of a flute-like sound in the background, BBPTB dresses the instrumental with personality whilst allowing the artists space to be heard perfectly.

Throughout his verse Numbas is on a roll masterfully showcasing his synchronicity with the beat. Topically, he maintains on the song’s theme even affording to purchase some slick wordplay and references to Basketball .ie.

“Diplomatic immunity, never caught a f*ckn charge, ball on the referee, how you make that stupid call?” he raps in double entendre alluding to Bentley who was released from a five-year bid, and now runs legitimate businesses with dog kennel retailing and food distribution.

Bentley then arrests the instrumental with a juvenile verse that speaks to being grimey selling and cooking cocaine as a means to survive. He basically flexes throughout his brief cameo that oozes imperealism and confidence in whatever he does.

Numbas is growing in stature as an artist and a popular figure following his latest anthem “Gator” featuring Kevin Gates amassing 25,000 streams on its first week has been on a bright purple patch.

After hearing the record, one user even labeled “Like Dat” as “INSPIRATION RATCH.”

3) Lil Keed – “Self-Employed”

Lil Keed’s estate has dropped a single off his highly anticipated album Keed Talk To ‘Em 2. The late rapper passed away from a rare condition called eosinophilia late last year. The aforementioned track is about grinding so much that others will question if you work a 9 to 5. “Self-Employed” also finds Lil Keed putting his haters in their rightful place. Keed Talk To ‘Em 2 is executive produced by his daughter Naychur Render. The album features NAV, Big Sean, Trippie Redd, KayCyy, Fridayy, Young Thug, Dolly White, Karlae, Lil Gotit, and StickBaby. 4) COCHISE – “Don’t Matter

Coming in heavy with video game elements, “Don’t Matter” is about living life with no regrets. COCHISE delivers his bars in a flow seemingly inspired by the likes of Playboi Carti. On “Don’t Matter”, the former XXL Freshman speaks about running a bag with his comrades, pulling up in foreign whips, wearing the hottest designer, and keeping a baddie on his arm. The two-minute song also sees COCHISE forwarning his haters. “Like don’t get hurt/Like a nigga get stomped out here for the low/Man call up Lil Durk.”

5) Luh Tyler and BabyTron – “Fat Racks Pt. 2”

Luh Tyler and Babytron let it be known that they “ain’t doing shit for you if that shit don’t get me paid” in their newest single. The eerie trap offering finds Luh Tyler and BabyTron detailing their immense love for the mula. So much that they won’t let anything (or anyone) stand in the way of their profits. Coinciding with this are the two rappers’ braggadocious bars. Babytron also touches on his rise to fame, saying, “Doggie woke up in a mid-life crisis, don’t know who to blame/Thinking, “Who gone help me?”/Independent, gives a fuck, I’m thinking who gon’ shelve me.”

6) Wolftyla – “Close”

On “Close,” Wolftyla yearns for a distant lover to be near. The R&B/pop beat allows the singer to express her feelings toward the one she “loves the most” in a captivating vocal range. Moreover, the New York songstress explains why they’re a perfect match. She wishes that this person would stop pulling away. Wolftyla says about the record, “‘Close’ is an open love letter to someone I’ve grown to learn and understand enough to love deeply. I wanted to capture in sound what it feels like for me to keep my love life private, but the sadness of feeling as I will never be able to disclose who I love. So there’s a layer of intimacy that I appreciate when being close to someone but also anxiety and fear because I’ll never know if I’m the only one.”

7) Trip Carter – “Heels”

Trip Carter can’t help but give a sweet lady the world and then some in “Heels.” He even encourages her to “walk them heels and talk your shit.” In nearly three minutes, Trip Carter can be heard singing with a suave vocality as the funky R&B beat goes off. KCAMP also elaborates on the kind of woman he’d love to keep around. “I just been needin’ some love and loyalty lately,” he raps.

Vlewo debuts latest single “Diamonds & Dior”

Vlewo

Vlewo will be releasing a brand new flex anthem “Diamonds & Dior” where he shows off his range as an artist.

Vlewo is known for his diverse sound; he switches between different beat styles, flows, and sounds in his music.

When asked about his passion for music, the artist shared “I’m passionate about music because it mainly stemmed from me becoming diagnosed with anxiety and depression from back when I was on campus. I’ve always been talented in music, but the passion came from wanting to stand out with anything I write. What inspires me
is not falling into other artists’ categories and just wanting to be excellent but different
through many ways as possible.”

He pulls inspiration from artists who have diverse sounds such as Chris Brown, Juice Wrld, and Lil Yachty. Yachty’s recent dive into the opposite direction with Let’s Start Here. stood out to Vlewo. He shared “he started off as a rapper but developed into a multitude type of artist. Yachty wrote many songs for artists and proposed a new sound with alternative music in 2023.”

The Illinois artist is dropping his latest single titled “Diamonds & Dior.” The single is an energetic banger with a glistening instrumental. Throughout the record, the artist exhibits multiple flows and vocal inflections.

When asked about what he wants fans to take away from his music he stated “Overall, I want my supporters to take away from my music that I give this my all. I don’t care
about first-week sales, don’t care about competing with the next man… I just want to release music for those who genuinely want it. The message I want everyone to understand is I’m human with feelings and emotions, but definitely not perfect. Want people to hear my music and feel what I’m expressing on another level depending on what’s being played. In terms of my single and project, the single is to enjoy and have a great vibe but the project is to listen and understand that not every song I release will sound repetitive.”

The Illinois artist is currently focused on sharing “Diamonds & Dior” and will be returning this summer with another single. After the summer single, he is planning on shifting his focus to creating his first studio album.
