UMÉ talks latest EP ‘Growing Pains’ and the importance of authenticity in music

UMÉ

UMÉ, the versatile artist from New Jersey, has just released his latest EP, “Growing Pains.” In this interview, he discusses his music, influences, and what inspired his latest project.

His sound can be described as “empathetic, mood music” that empowers those who feel powerless and encourages listeners to tap into their real emotions to grow in life. UMÉ‘s passion for music stems from the fact that it has gotten him through some of the hardest times in his life and has always made sense to him in any form.

UMÉ draws inspiration from various artists, including Donald Glover, Kendrick Lamar, Tyler The Creator, Kyle, and J. Cole, among others. His latest EP, “Growing Pains,” was inspired by real experiences and emotions he went through while growing up and reaching a stronger sense of self. He went through a tough time that brought him to a low place, but he was able to write a majority of the music in a little over two weeks as a means to cope. Making the music during this time was like “sonic therapy” for him, and he’s blessed to have created something beautiful from the mess.

“Growing Pains is about the different elements of life that we go through while growing up and coming into our own in our next chapter,” he explained to RemixdMag. “The tracks deal with different concepts like self worth, trust, self actualization, love, and comfortability that everyone can relate to and the running tag with the EP, #WatchMeGrow, exists to emphasize the idea that it’s supposed to be personal and feel a little raw.”

“Growing Pains” deals with different concepts like self-worth, trust, self-actualization, love, and comfortability that everyone can relate to.

“It’s me out in the open shedding this skin of who I was, since I’ve been away working on myself, now transitioning into the next season and Im very excited to share it soon in the near future,” he continued.

UMÉ is excited about the near future and says he has been working on new sounds in different lanes. He’s been looking for inspiration from other genres, and it’s definitely going to be cool to see the growth post-“Growing Pains.”

““Pisces” is something to look out for before summer,” he explains. “On the songwriting side of what I do, I’ve been working on upcoming placements for artists and sync projects as I’ve been branching out of just my artistry lately. My goal is to be involved in the industry in different ways including more creative direction like what I did for this project.”

From “Growing Pains,” UMÉ hopes people take away the importance of being comfortable with being uncomfortable, listening to oneself and how they’re feeling, and that things always come around full circle even when it may seem darkest. From his music in general, he hopes people get a better sense of who he is and that it helps touch them in a way that allows them to better be themselves.

In conclusion, UMÉ’s “Growing Pains” EP is a testament to his personal growth and evolution as an artist. His music is not only relatable, but also inspiring, and it’s clear that he has a bright future ahead in the music industry. Fans can look forward to more of UMÉ’s creative direction and unique sound in the coming months.

Supah Sayin is a Texas born-and-raised artist you should know

Supah Sayin

Supah Sayin is proud to say he’s from Texas, born and raised. Specifically growing up in Fort Worth, TX for most of his life, Supah Sayin (who’s real name Nicolas), knew he wanted to pursue music since he was a child.

“I remember having solo “concerts” in my bedroom to the likes of Nirvana, The Beatles, and most frequently Kanye West’s entire “Graduation” album. Being able to record music just became an extension of that outlet later in my life.”

Describing his sound as “highly psychedelic,” his newest project ‘Neo-Lizard King’ recently dropped and includes 7-tracks of deeply introspective subject matter.

“While most of my current music is based in the hip-hop/rap space, I have aspirations to incorporate rock and R&B into my sound in the future,” Supah Sayin said. “I just want to try and hybridize my sound as much as possible. I don’t like being put into boxes. They’re too 3 dimensional. I’d rather be limitless and connected with all the musical genres.”

The project explores many different sounds.

“The inspiration for this project was to bring what Jim Morrison did in the 60s and 70s at the beginning of the counterculture movement to the world of rap,” he continued. “History repeats itself constantly, and I feel like it is the responsibility of all human beings to push for sensible change and hold ourselves and society accountable for its dark-natured tendencies.”

Keep reading for the full interview below:

How did you get your artist name Supah Sayin?

My birth name, Nicolas (Nico for short), was given to me by my mother and fate. Nicolas means “Victor Of The People” derived from Greek origin Nikolaus. My version is Spanish in root so you pronounce it Nico-Las. My artist name is “Supah Sayin”. I started using it around 2015 after I had ended a freestyle with something to the extent of, “…and I’m the Supah Sayin.” It’s an allusion to my love for the Dragon Ball anime and is also in homage to the type of energy I want to bring to rap.

How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you?

HIGHLY psychedelic. I have different flavors for different savers. However the biggest takeaway is deeply introspective and thought provoking subject matter layered into perfectly designed dark/light toned esoteric audio landscapes. While most of my current music is based in the hip-hop/rap space, I have aspirations to incorporate rock and R&B into my sound in the future. I just want to try and hybridize my sound as much as possible. I don’t like being put into boxes. They’re too 3 dimensional. I’d rather be limitless and connected with all the musical genres.

What’s one reason you are passionate about music and what inspires you?

Music has always been an emotional outlet for me since I was a child. I remember having solo “concerts” in my bedroom to the likes of Nirvana, The Beatles, and most frequently Kanye West’s entire “Graduation” album. Being able to record music just became an extension of that outlet later in my life. I find that making music is one of the only ways I can reveal or even express some of my deepest emotions and thoughts. Most of my musical inspirations are dead and gone, but I saw the torch and want to carry it on. My purpose is to bring change, be a voice of reason, and ultimately to inspire.

Who are some of your main musical influences?

My influences range in a wide array. My earlier influences included Red Hot Chili Peppers, Frank Sinatra, Jimi Hendrix, & Bob Marley. Some of my later Influences include Lil Peep, Cal Scruby, Paris Texas, A$AP Rocky, & Highly Suspect. But my biggest influence of them all is Jim Morrison of The Doors.

Tell us the name of the project you are currently promoting? What inspired this project?

Currently, my label and I have been promoting my debut studio album “Neo-Lizard King.” The inspiration for this project was to bring what Jim Morrison did in the 60s and 70s at the beginning of the counterculture movement to the world of rap. History repeats itself constantly, and I feel like it is the responsibility of all human beings to push for sensible change and hold ourselves and society accountable for its dark-natured tendencies.

What is this project about in your own words?

“Neo-Lizard King” is a psychedelic trip of audible proportions. The project was developed and meant to be consumed as a whole piece, though each song has legs to stand on its own. But the album as a whole is a concept. And should be experienced as such! This project seeks to provoke thought and inspire the next wave of great minds to question their being, ego, and surroundings. It also touches on the journey to self-acceptance in the world we live in today.

What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects we should be on the lookout for? Include some dates if you have them.

As of right now we are currently still working on the post album rollout of “Neo-Lizard King”. Up next, you can expect some music videos from songs on the album and some exclusive “Neo-Lizard King” merch. With the reception of the album being so amazing (shout out to all of the Supah Souljas supporting us), we are also looking to be a part of some shows in Texas.

What message do you hope fans take away from your music and from this project?

The message of my music is to live beyond the necessity of material objects. We need to embrace our identity and individualism, but cooperate and coordinate with the whole world in mind. It’s okay to express our emotions and celebrate our freedoms, just without denying others of theirs or ignoring them entirely. I hope the project aspires others to be the acceptance and change in the world while finding their balance of this duality.

Where can we follow you on social media? Include links.

I regularly post content on Instagram as well documenting my work as I continue in the independent music industry. Be sure to check me out on there. Thank you to the readers of REMIXD Magazine and the magazine itself for giving artists like myself a platform to speak. Your energy is appreciated.

Doe Boy teams up with Dej Loaf to share romantic new single “Roll The Dice”

Embarking on another creative chapter, critically acclaimed Cleveland hip-hop phenomenon Doe Boy returns with a brand new single and music video entitled “ROLL THE DICE” [feat. Dej Loaf] out now via Freebandz/Epic Records. It marks their first collaboration together and Dej Loaf’s first feature since 2020. Listen HERE and watch the music video HERE.

Produced by Pooh Beatz [Jack Harlow, DaBaby] and Go Grizzley [Drake, 21 Savage, Nicki Minaj], the song sees Doe Boy evolve at lightspeed. This time around, he leans into woozy R&B with romantic otherworldly crooning and vulnerable confessions such as “I’m heavy thinking.Over the loose guitar-laden beat, Dej Loaf delivers a slick and scorching cameo of her own as their hypnotic harmonies interlock in unison. The accompanying visual clearly projects this chemistry on-screen as they tell a relatable story. After an intro of dice in the clouds, the intimate highly stylized video threads together a series of passionate and solemn moments against either black or white backdrops. With this elevated approach, the clip highlights Doe Boy’s progression as a genre-breaking force.

Most importantly, the track paves the way for his next full-length project. Turning another page, “ROLL THE DICE” illuminates his ability to seamlessly switch lanes and, ultimately, sharpen his signature sound more than ever before.

Last year, Doe Boy continued his rapid rise with the CATCH ME IF YOU CAN EP. It tallied over 10 million streams and earned critical plugs from the likes of Complex and RapRadar who noted, Doe Boy is hard to kill.Perhaps REVOLT put it best by proclaiming, “If you not hip to Doe Boy by now, shame on you.” Last week, he turned up at Rolling Loud Miami with a festival favorite set.
