Joony brings the world to the DMV on new album ‘SHITUMSS’

Joony

Joony is bringing the DMV sound to the world on his 11-track LP, SHITUMSS. Following the success of his standout verse on Brent Faiyaz’s RIAA Gold-certified album Wasteland and his critically-acclaimed project, Pretty in Black, the world has been Joony’s oyster. The young star’s newest album captures the essence of the sound that helped groom him into the well-rounded creative he is today.

With many naysayers claiming that the DMV signature sound is too gritty to become mainstream, Joony and his in-house team of frequent collaborators elevate together to champion the regional sound. The Silver Spring, Maryland-raised MC has teased more 808-heavy records on his otherwise melodic projects, but this time, he made a conservative effort to take it all the way! With production from fellow DMV natives like Mannyvelli, Spizzle, Dawg Servin, Big Weigh, Turk, Trill800, and 4Days, Joony has created a project that represents the area but also embodies the essence of being “On Shit,” meaning real motion and no performative acts.

Crafted in trapped-out basements throughout the DMV, SHITUMSS delivers an authentic and powerful listening experience. Joony on SHITUMSS: “We want to show you what we’ve worked on for the last two years. Everyone is from the DMV, and these songs were all made in trapped-out vibes. This is a representation of the area. The DMV. We called it SHITUMSS because we’re on shit. Encompassing the vibes from the basement.”

Although he is just getting started, Joony is poised to carry the burden of bringing the DMV’s traditional sound to the forefront of the music industry. With famous artists like Lil Uzi Vert, Stunna 4 Vegas, and others utilizing the signature flow in their music, it is only fitting that a DMV-bred star opens the door for the region to have its moment. Records like “All Over the House,” “Shitumss,” and “Keisha” are hard-hitting bangers that are sure to blow a speaker or two.

Moreover, Joony still gives his fans the melodic moments they have come to love on  “Jagged Edge” and “###Trending.” Although Joony has become an international success, he never will forget where he came from, and his newest album is an ode to the sound that made him the star he is today.

Mani Da Brat blends nostalgia with modernity in latest single ‘Jupiter’ and anticipated debut EP

Mani Da Brat

Imani, who goes by her stage name Mani Da Brat, hails from Los Angeles, California, but now resides in a rural Northern California town. She derived her artist name from a friend who labeled her a brat because she is allegedly spoiled. After a year of bantering and bad inside jokes, “Imani” and “Brat” evolved into “Mani Da Brat.”

Mani Da Brat’s sound is a mixture of nostalgia and modern music. It is an amalgamation of all the music she enjoys and listens to.

For Mani, music is the only thing that has ever made sense. The way music can evoke a feeling, fill a void, or be a bandage to an emotional wound is what inspires her. For her, the art of storytelling is what makes her passionate about music. Everyone has a story that deserves to be heard and told, and making music is Mani’s preferred way of telling her stories.

“The way that music can evoke a feeling, temporarily fill a void, or be a bandage to an emotional wound,” she told Remixd Mag. “That’s what makes me passionate about music; the art of storytelling. My inspiration is everyone and everything. Everyone’s life is full of stories that deserve to be heard and told, and my preferred method of telling my stories is making music.”

Mani has several musical influences, including Nicki Minaj, Jimi Hendrix, Mariah Carey, Lisa ‘Left-Eye’ Lopes, Tupac, and Janelle Monae.

Mani is currently promoting a single titled “Jupiter.” It is a spacey breakup track that was inspired by the man she thought she would marry. “Jupiter” is the last teaser single before she drops the first single from her debut EP. The song dropped on March 23rd, 2023, and she is proud of it.

Her debut EP, “It Was Until It Wasn’t,” will be released in 2024. She has a few singles ready to drop, including “BratSht,” “She’s A Btch,” and “Switch Up,” in the next few weeks or so.

Mani hopes that her fans and new listeners will realize that they do not have to settle for what they don’t want. If it’s for them, they will know. It doesn’t matter if it’s a job, a relationship, a car, or a wig; if it’s for them, they will know. All they can control is the things they don’t stress. She advises focusing your energy on yourself and your money.

“I hope my fans and new listeners realize you don’t have to settle for what you don’t want,” she says. “Point blank, if it’s for you, you’ll know. It doesn’t matter if it’s a job, relationship, car, or wig– if it’s for you, you’ll know. All you can control is the stuff you don’t stress. Focus your energy on yourself and your money.”

Mani Da Brat’s social media handles are all ManiDaBratttt, making it effortless to find her on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok.
