Key Glock flexes up in new video for “No Hook”

Key Glock

One of the hardest working artists in hip-hop or otherwise, Key Glock’s not keen on repeating himself. Putting that “time is money” mentality into practice, Key Glock shares the video for “No Hook,” the relentless standout from the recent Glockoma 2 (Deluxe). Anchored by a soul-sampling instrumental with hair-shaking bass, “No Hook” finds the Paper Route Empire artist in vintage form–running his money up and flexing the spoils every step of the way: “I’m livin’ like a king, b*tch, I’m not your local joker/All about my bread, hell yеah, I keep that toaster/I be sippin’ red and my lil’ b*tch sip mimosa/I hop up out the bed, say a prayer and count my dough up.”

Largely filmed at the Memphis native’s burlesque-themed “50 Shades of Key Glock” BET Awards after-party, hosted by Coi LerayDruskiBIA, and Sukihanna in Beverly Hills, the video for “No Hook” further illustrates his dedication to the hustle. Even when he’s spending downtime partying or relaxing, there’s always work to be done, and Key Glock is the man to do it.

The sequel to Glock’s acclaimed 2018 tape GlockomaGlockoma 2 and the recently released Glockoma 2 (Deluxe) find the Memphis playmaker at the top of his game, making it look easy to shoulder a 23-track load without any features, as usual. Glockoma 2 (Deluxe) follows in the wake of the “SiriusXM’s Hip-Hop Nation Presents: Key Glock – Glockoma Tour,” featuring support from NC riser TiaCorine, Glock’s Paper Route Empire brethren Kenny Muney and Jay Fizzle, and Dallas rapper BigXThaPlug. The “Glockoma Tour” criss-crossed the country with dozens of sold out dates. Glock recently paid tribute to his mentor Young Dolph with the “Love For The Streets Celebrity Car Show,” hosted by PRE and DJ Envy, which occurred in Memphis over Memorial Day Weekend, and included the final stop of the DOLPHLAND Museum.

Now with over 10 million monthly listeners on Spotify and 59k tickets sold in 2023 alone, Key Glock is on the brink of taking his no-holds-barred Memphis sound to the mainstream. Stay tuned…#PRE5L.

New Music Friday: The best new songs that dropped this week

Flo Milli

Every week, new songs make their way to the music radar, making it hard to keep a close eye out on what’s a hit and what’s not. But luckily, RemixdMag has narrowed down the best choices. We guarantee updated lists weekly so that you can stay updated with the hottest records. No matter the season, our choices will always keep the temperatures rising.

Read our selection of new songs below:

Flo Milli – “B.T.W”

Flo Milli has added her own lyrical spin to Too Short’s “Blow The Whistle” in her newest record, “B.T.W” The aforementioned song is in partnership with Google Pixel. On the Lil Jon-produced record, the “Not Friendly” rhymer speaks about she’s been “in the booth for thousand hours,” putting others in their place, keeping an eye out for the fakes, and having undeniable confidence. The rapstress also explains to suitors why their chances of dating her are slim to none. Flo Milli uses a bouncy and smooth cadence throughout the hyped-up hip-hop offering.

KEY! – “Crank Dat (featuring Redd Smash)”

KEY! and Redd Smash’s “Crank Dat” seemingly pay homage to Atlanta and Souljia Boy, who got his start in ATL. Ironically, Souljia Boy’s viral 2007 hit carries the same name. The declarative-styled trap beat finds the two wordsmiths dropping bars about his come-up, prominence, and how they deal with others who disrespect them. In “Crank Dat,” the rappers drop off some braggadocious bars. The song is the latest single from KEY! ‘s forthcoming album, Marquis

DreamDoll – “I’ll Be Good (Freestyle)”

DreamDoll puts all the speculations to rest in her latest freestyle to Foxy Brown and Jay-Z‘s “I’ll Be.” As the beat goes off, DreamDoll speaks about being a girls girl in the hip-hop industry, why others are praying for her downfall, and how she doesn’t entertain mediocracy. The two-minute and twenty-second record also finds the “Ice Cream Dream” artist detailing her luxurious lifestyle, confidence, and authenticity. She even explains what makes her stand out from other females. Toward the end, she raps over a sample of Lil Wayne’s “Project Bitch” about her ideal partner.

ARTZ – “More Dilla (feat Styles P)”

ARTZ and Styles P link up to deliver one of the hottest bangers of the summer. Their new song, “More Dilla,” highlights how far perseverance can take you. Similarly, the song stresses the importance of having more music with substance rather than music that promotes violence, sex, or drugs. ARTZ’s trajectory in the hip-hop industry is relevant, especially in this record. Over the classic sample and hyped up drill beat, the lyrical MC reflects on his humble beginnings and expresses his appreciation for ascending. Referring to themselves as “art dealers,” ARTZ and Styles P go on a mission to deliver nothing but the best music. During Style P’s verse, the beat briefly transforms into a calm, classical music style. He also drops some tough talk and bars about his influence in the hip-hop scene. The rapper ends his verse by saying, “I’ma keep it G that’s some sh*t you should detect.”

Marlon Craft – “DISTANCE”

Coming off his new album, HOMECOURT ADVANTAGE, Vol. 2 is “Distance.” The jazz/boom-bap cut finds the lyrical MC dropping bars about his passion for hip-hop, work ethic, and ignoring the hate. Marlon Craft also leans into transparency when rapping about his experiences thus far in the music industry. The rapper concludes that he’d “rather stand tall than swim in the mainstream.” Throughout the record, Marlon Craft uses a cohesive flow and showcases his carefree attitude. One line that drives the narrative home goes, “The due’s overpaid, but it’s made me stronger/Your hands overplayed if you played me formally/All of my negative impulses, they try to corner me/But on the corner’s where I learned the shit I be performing, see.”

Eem Triplin – STILL PRETTY

Eem Triplin dropped a project over the weekend called STILL PRETTY. The 7-track offering is filled with straight bangers that find the versatile musician being nothing but transparent. Standout records like “WHAT DA OPP SAID” are about Eem Triplin putting his happiness first and doing what feels right. Songs such as “S550,” however, highlight the musicians’ unwavering focus and confidence. Elsewhere on the project, Eem Triplin slings out some tough talk to the opps and braggadocious rhymes. The lyrical context is heightened by Eem Triplin’s raspy, pitched-up flow. Beat-wise, STILL PRETTY delves into dreamy synths and experimental hip-hop arrangements.

YK Osiris – “Dear Fans

YK Osiris’ “Dear Fans” is his first release since becoming an independent artist. The melancholic R&B offering is a confessional on how he’s dealt with life-changing situations. Moreover, YK Osiris tells listeners his truer feelings while maneuvering in dilemmas meant to bring him down. Despite going through the motions, YK Osiris admits he’s persevering for his family and career. The record is packaged as a letter to the supporters who’ve been there from day one. “Transparent with the fans/Yeah, I know it’s gods plan,” he sings. “What it’s like to be a man/They don’t understand.”

Alex Mali – “DinnerTime”

Alex Mali (@mainlymali), a soulful artist hailing from Brooklyn, NY, is setting the tone with her unique blend of Dancehall R&B/Pop. Her latest single “DinnerTime,” (out today) is a song that emerged from the theme of self-confidence and empowerment and serves as a tantalizing taste of her upcoming debut album.

The title itself, “DinnerTime,” hints at a playful exploration of sensuality and self-confidence, as Alex expertly crafts catchy puns and wordplay throughout the track. With a sensual and poetic approach, she implies wanting to skip dinner and wanting to be the main course instead. Alex Mali explores the concept of women comparing themselves to “a snack” or “a meal,” delving into her own perspective and redefining what it means to be sexy. Through the song, she creates a sensual atmosphere that is both bold and delicate, showcasing her unique storytelling ability.

MJ Grizz – “Sisi”

Chicago’s Mj Grizz is back with a new single, “Sisi,” to correct the vibes for the summer. The multi-talented recording artist is back with an Afrobeats-infused banger. The Ye Ali collaborator is dominating all social platforms amidst this new release. After successfully raising his profile pre-pandemic, he is slowly but surely positioning himself to close out 2023 with a bang.
