Embarking on musical adventures with Yoko Gold, from Toronto to Miami

Yoko Gold

Yoko Gold just released his latest track “Limbo.”

Originating from the bustling city of Toronto, Canada, artist Yoko Gold (@yokogold) has found his current artistic haven in the sun-soaked landscapes of Miami, Florida. His artistic journey is as fascinating as his distinctive fusion of sounds.

Yoko Gold’s chosen moniker carries a story all its own. “My girlfriend Kim used to call me baby Yoko, signifying ocean child. This playful reference to the ‘bed peace’ documentary began as a jest but soon became a part of me. I consider myself a boogie hippy, always seeking peace,” Yoko explains. The addition of “Gold” to his name owes itself to a friend’s observation. “A friend named Paul jokingly remarked that most songs I shared with him were average, but when he truly liked one, he deemed it Gold. This standard now defines my art—Yoko Gold embodies positivity, creativity, and longevity, values that could undoubtedly contribute to a better world.”

Defining Yoko Gold’s musical genre is a challenge he happily embraces. “I refuse to be confined to a single box. My style shifts with the seasons,” he remarks. “Today might bring rap, and tomorrow, Japanese funk. Yet, the emotion remains constant; I search for chords that leave an imprint and melodies that heal. Ultimately, it’s music that soothes the soul.”

Yoko’s passion for music is obvious, even during moments of struggle. “There are times when I’m consumed by my love for music, and then there are times I can’t stand it, avoiding it for weeks,” he admits. The commercialization of music saddens him, but the pure adoration children have for it continues to inspire him. “Children engage with music out of sheer love. They don’t worry about bills; they use music to express themselves—a priceless sentiment.”

The seeds of Yoko’s musical journey were sown by the influence of Christina Aguilera’s “Genie In A Bottle” and “Come On Over,” which illustrated the power of authenticity. However, it was the appearance of “The World Is Yours” in the Tony Hawk game that solidified his commitment to a musical career, an experience he considers serendipitous.

Currently immersed in the creation of his forthcoming album “Escape From Limbo,” Yoko Gold draws inspiration from his personal experiences. “This project delves into the chapters of my life, particularly those characterized by a sense of Limbo,” he shares. Nevertheless, his paramount source of inspiration is his daughter, Ella. “Ella is my muse, my everything. I love you, Ella.”

Through his music, Yoko Gold aspires to convey a powerful message to his listeners. “I want the Goldmine family to understand that failing to act upon our present selves will lead to regret later on,” he asserts. Having experienced the state of aimless contemplation without action, he recognizes the significance of inspiration. “The time to act is now, and I call upon you to inspire me. Stay Gold.”
