“My name is Tye Cooper, and the cool thing about my stage name is that it’s my real name,” Tye shares. However, his artistic journey wasn’t always defined by his given name. He initially went by “Messy Tye,” a moniker with a fascinating backstory. Inspired by Messy Mya, a comedian and rapper from New Orleans, Tye adopted the name during his 12th-grade year. Tragically, Messy Mya’s life was cut short when he was shot and killed shortly after his baby shower, an event that gained notoriety on Twitter. This tragic incident, coupled with Tye’s own experiences as a new father, led him to adopt the name “Messy Tye.” However, as his career progressed and he signed with the independent record label silent reminder entertainment in 2019, he decided to transition to his given name, Tye Cooper.

Tye Cooper’s music can be described as a “breath of fresh air.” It defies categorization, drawing from various genres to create a unique sonic tapestry. Tye’s musical influences are eclectic, ranging from his high school days of playing the trombone to his love for classic 60s music, including doo-wop, Motown, opera, and jazz.
