Tye Cooper shares his journey on building musical authenticity

Tye Cooper

Tye Cooper’s roots are deeply embedded in the vibrant city of Providence, Rhode Island, where he both hails from and currently resides. However, Tye’s musical pursuits often take him on journeys beyond his hometown, collaborating with fellow artists and seeking inspiration in diverse surroundings. He spoke with Remixd Magazine to discuss upcoming music and who he is as an artist.

“My name is Tye Cooper, and the cool thing about my stage name is that it’s my real name,” Tye shares. However, his artistic journey wasn’t always defined by his given name. He initially went by “Messy Tye,” a moniker with a fascinating backstory. Inspired by Messy Mya, a comedian and rapper from New Orleans, Tye adopted the name during his 12th-grade year. Tragically, Messy Mya’s life was cut short when he was shot and killed shortly after his baby shower, an event that gained notoriety on Twitter. This tragic incident, coupled with Tye’s own experiences as a new father, led him to adopt the name “Messy Tye.” However, as his career progressed and he signed with the independent record label silent reminder entertainment in 2019, he decided to transition to his given name, Tye Cooper.

Tye Cooper’s music can be described as a “breath of fresh air.” It defies categorization, drawing from various genres to create a unique sonic tapestry. Tye’s musical influences are eclectic, ranging from his high school days of playing the trombone to his love for classic 60s music, including doo-wop, Motown, opera, and jazz. This diverse palette infuses his work with a timeless quality, proving that hip-hop is just one facet of his expansive sound.

Passion for Music: A Lifelong Connection

Tye’s passion for music runs deep, tracing back to his upbringing. Raised in a household where old-school hip-hop and R&B were the soundtrack of life, Tye developed a profound connection to the art form. His love for writing and storytelling found a natural outlet in music, a medium that has always resonated with him. Tye draws inspiration from the idea that music serves as an escape from reality for many, offering messages and lessons that connect with people on a profound level.

Tye’s musical influences are a testament to his eclectic taste. His list includes iconic artists like Jay-Z, 2Pac, Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa, and many more. Each has left a distinctive mark on his approach to music, contributing to his multifaceted style.

“This Part Of My Life Is Called”: Tye’s Recent Project

Tye Cooper’s latest project, “This Part Of My Life Is Called,” is a reflection of significant life moments. Inspired by the movie “Pursuit Of Happyness,” where the protagonist narrates key life events as “parts” of his life, Tye crafted an album where each song title represents a pivotal moment. The project, released on 11/11 last year, has been a year-long journey.

Tye’s project takes listeners on a journey from point A to point B, mirroring the phases of life. Each song title provides a starting point for understanding the emotional terrain covered. The album culminates with “P.U.S.H.,” an acronym for “Pray Until Something Happens,” representing a time of personal struggle and determination.

Tye’s future is brimming with creativity. Fresh from touring with Fuego Base, Keen Streetz, Benny The Butcher, and Jim Jones’ artist, he returns home with a tour documentary and two visuals from his recent project. While the project dropped in November, Tye has been busy recording new music and collaborating with fellow artists. An EP is in the works, promising a strong finish to the year and an exciting start to the next.

A Message in the Music: Be the Best Version of Yourself

Tye’s music carries a powerful message: be the best version of yourself. He’s explored the creative potential of recording music while experimenting with shrooms, leading to elevated levels of expression and conviction. Tye hopes this newfound creative dimension resonates with listeners, whether they’ve experienced the magic of shrooms or not.

Montreal’s suburban gem, MiQ The Burb Boy, takes us on a journey from his West Island roots to the worldwide stage. While he’s grounded in his hometown, Michael’s passion for music often leads him to explore new horizons, collaborating with artists and seeking inspiration in diverse surroundings. The artist spoke with Remixd Magazine for an interview about his upcoming music, inspirations, and more.

“My name is Michael Sahakian, and my artist name is MiQ The Burb Boy,” he shares. His unique moniker, MiQ, came into being during high school when a friend named Rabie playfully coined it. Rabie described it as “like Mike but with a Q because it’s elegant.” This name stuck with Michael and naturally became his rap alias. Later, “The Burb Boy” emerged, solidifying his persona. This transformation was inspired by his music’s central character, the suburban boy. This character-driven approach mirrors the world of comic books and superheroes, a theme evident in his album “Burb Boy vs The City,” inspired by Batman.

MiQ’s Signature Sound: Where Storytelling Reigns

MiQ The Burb Boy’s music is defined by its storytelling prowess. He emphasizes that his songs prioritize the narrative above all else, refusing to confine his lyrics to a rigid melodic formula for the sake of catchiness. MiQ’s persona, “The Burb Boy,” serves as a versatile canvas, allowing him to venture into various genres. His repertoire spans R&B, Rock, and Hip-Hop, which remains his focal point and favorite avenue. Rather than comparing himself to other artists, he embraces his unique range, confident that there’s a MiQ The Burb Boy track for every genre enthusiast.

MiQ’s passion for music runs deep. “Music has helped me through so many hardships in my life,” he reflects. It has been a constant companion, from his iPod to backyard boombox sessions. MiQ views music as a healing force, a sentiment reflected in his early songs, which often served as personal journal entries, helping him navigate life’s challenges. His ultimate goal is to create a vast Burb Boy universe encompassing comic books, games, animated movies, and more, providing an immersive experience for his audience.

Influences that shape his sound

MiQ’s musical influences have left a significant imprint on his work. Eminem introduced him to the art of storytelling, while Kanye West showcased the power of creating worlds within music. Lil Wayne inspired his love for lyrics and wordplay. Kendrick Lamar blended storytelling, world-building, and lyrical prowess into a mesmerizing combination. XXXTentacion’s boundary-pushing approach reminded him that music is an art form. Ultimately, MiQ aspires to follow in the footsteps of Childish Gambino, a multi-talented artist who seamlessly transitions between music, acting, comedy, and more.

MiQ The Burb Boy’s latest project, “Dusk & Dawn,” is inspired by the concept of living for the future. The project begins with the single “SHAKE,” offering a compelling narrative. It explores the idea that having a reason to look forward to tomorrow helps resist quick but temporary distractions like drugs, alcohol, and instant gratification. “Dusk & Dawn” weaves together the best moments from adversity and prosperity, narrating the journey from twilight to dawn and its impact on The Burb Boy.

What the future has in store

The future holds exciting prospects for MiQ The Burb Boy. He envisions creating more content, expanding his world-building efforts, and releasing more music. His next project is already taking shape, promising a continuation of his artistic evolution.

MiQ hopes his music resonates with listeners as stories, akin to TV shows or comic book series. He wants fans to connect with the characters and immerse themselves in the worlds he paints through his lyrics. Ultimately, his message is simple yet profound: life is beautiful because it exists, and every moment, whether challenging or glorious, contributes to its beauty.
