Interview: Da$H on inspiration behind highly-anticipated ‘Skrewface 2’

Da$H

Da$H (@heirdash) is not your average rapper. A New Jersey native, he’s an artist that has made a name for himself due to his raw cadence, and impressive consistency.

Da$H released his latest project, Skrewface 2, on Friday (Sept. 1st), and since its release, it has garnered a great reception from his supporters. He’s also been pushing out accompanying visuals, including the newly released music video, “That’s Us”. Skrewface 2 is a followup to his 2015 EP, Skrewface, and a testament to his evolution as an artist. The 14-track offering includes a diverse collection of hard-hitters over the course of 32 minutes. The project also features some of today’s hottest in Hip-Hop such as Curren$y, Maxo Kream, and Zelooperz

Remixd Mag had the opportunity to catch up with Da$H at his store, LAAMS, based in Manhattan, NY, alongside Los Angeles based film photographer, Hood Beyonce. He highlights his journey in the music game, the importance of fan engagement, and inspiration behind Skrewface 2.

From making his first wave on Myspace, to hitting major stages, and collabing with some of HIp-Hop’s most respected in the game, Da$H has continued to push the envelope since coming onto the music scene. He steadily showcases his lyrical talents and impressive beat selections throughout his discography. Which is quite grand as he’s consistent with releasing projects nearly every year.

Aside from his fierce lyricism, Da$H has kept his fans engaged by bringing them along his music journey. He found through documenting his experiences, and content creation, it’s a way for fans to get insight into his creative process.

“With this album, I put so much content out leading up to the release. I’ve seen how the fans have engaged with just those 30 second clips. I’m glad to give it to them, and I’m happy to see that the visual art is just as big a component as the music.”

Skrewface 2 was an opportunity for the Jersey artist to continue getting experimental. Collaborating with producers like, LOOK DAMIEN!, and LOTTO to help bring his vision to life, Da$H showcases his range in sound. He describes the project as,

“sounding different from any of the other projects I put out. I created a gumbo of all types of shit. A lot of different producers, a lot of different places I was in.”

Songs like “Vicious Psychle” and “Game of Love” give listeners a contrast of chill vibes along with intensity, making the album overall satisfying and replayable.

Like many of his projects, Skrewface 2 was inspired by his personal experiences and is reflective of all he’s faced. He has a way of displaying his vulnerability in his music, thus making him relatable. He wants his listeners to be able to think of time in their life when they listen to his music. Da$H reveals,

“I’m still making progress, and I’m still cleaning up the messes I’ve made. And I’m still making new messes. I am who I am, and that’s not gonna change. But I just want to do better, and am willing to learn”.

Da$H is surely and steadily securing his spot at the top. Skrewface 2 is overall great on the ears, and definitely a project to add to the rotation. As for what Da$H has coming up, supporters can of course expect more music as he plans on releasing another project at the  end of the year.
