Meet Kwazii, an artist who crafts raw trap music with soulful melodies and a message

Kwazii

Get to know Kwazii. Hailing from Brampton, Ontario and currently based in Toronto, the artist known as Kwazii, is making strides in his own lane. Kwazii’s unique name has its roots in a Grade 9 French class, where the character ‘Quasimodo’ from The Hunchback of Notre Dame left a lasting impression. The name embodies compassion and uniqueness, much like Kwazii’s approach to his craft. Describing his sound as “raw Trap with soulful melodies,” Kwazii brings a distinctive blend of authenticity and emotion to his music. His playlist, a soundtrack to his life, reflects his deep connection to the art form. Music, for Kwazii, is a way to share his experiences. And leave behind a legacy that resonates with others who may feel understood through his work.

Influenced by a diverse range of artists, including PartyNextDoor, Frank Ocean, and Drake, Kwazii’s latest single, “Solo,” produced by Argo, dropped in November of this year. The song reflects a personal journey, where Kwazii takes accountability for his life’s circumstances. In the song, he feels the pressures of his position and striving for personal and collective improvement. Looking ahead, Kwazii remains busy, hinting at upcoming projects without divulging specific dates. The artist teases that fans can expect to hear a lot more from him in 2024, potentially early in the first quarter.

The meaning behind Kwazii’s music

With a message woven into his music, Kwazii hopes fans take away a sense of accountability and responsibility. “Solo” encourages listeners to stand on their own, face challenges head-on, and depend solely on themselves. Despite the wild and high-speed lifestyle often associated with his music, Kwazii emphasizes the importance of self-reflection and facing oneself in the mirror.

“Although my lifestyle may seem wild or highspeed what may seem extravagant and exciting to some,” Kwazii begins. “At the end of the day. You got to go home to your bed and sleep and face yourself in the mirror.”

Hailing from the vibrant intersection of Boston, Cape Verde, New York City, and now calling Los Angeles home, June Freedom’s journey is as diverse as the influences he brings into his music. As he explains, “I’d describe my sound as a melting pot, the same way they describe the people from Cabo Verde.” June Freedom found his artist name during a pivotal moment of transition. “June Freedom,” he declares, was born from a spontaneous revelation while strumming his guitar. It perfectly encapsulates his musical evolution and the sense of liberation he experiences when creating music.

“One day, while my team and family were brainstorming on a name for my next chapter … I was simply sitting on a couch strumming the guitar while everyone in the room was shooting names around,” he said. “I looked up and caught a glimpse of my guitar case, and it had an emblem that said “Freedom” on it, I said out loud “June Freedom,” and we all looked at each other and knew it was it. It just felt right and true to my future.”

About the latest project, 7 Seas
