RemixdMag’s best new songs this week give flowers to the ones who had sleepless nights and early mornings. From Fivio Foreign and Meek Mill‘s “Same 24” to Cozz‘s “Evil Ways (Freestyle),” our selection will show listeners why the hustle speaks volumes.

Fivio Foreign and Meek Mill – “Same 24”

Like the title implies, Fivio Foreign and Meek Mill speak about how they have the “Same 24” hours as other people, yet choose to use it to their advantage. As the victorious hip-hop beat sounds off, Fivio Foreign addresses the ones who ask for hand-outs despite not putting the work in. “We got the same twenty-four hours, n***a/Why what’s mine gotta be ours, n***a?,” Fivio Foreign raps. “Talkin’ ’bout n***as need help, n***a, I was ‘n***as’/But I rose out of the dirt, give me my flowers.” Fivio Foreign also thinks back on his humble beginnings and perseverance.

Meek Mill matches Fivio’s energy as he drops rhymes about his upbringing, highlighting his tenacity. The Philadelphia rapper speaks about hustling to make ends meet, ensuring that his family was always taken care of. He raps, “I’m really hot ’cause I grew up without the fan on/I’m really ’bout to pull my Glock out on the landlord/I’m really like that, tell my mama we ain’t stayin’ poor.

Playboi Carti – “EVILJ0RDAN”

Playboi Carti’s “EVILJ0RDAN” is a menacing trap cut that finds the rapper addressing his opps, asserting his dominance in the hip-hop game, and detailing his charm. Similarly, Playboi Carti showcases his authentic style and unmatched pen game, rapping, “They can’t put me in no genre baby, ’cause I changed the game.” Lyrics like “I just put on my boots, ain’t worried ’bout no rain/Put a n***a down, Channel 2 front page” also bring attention to the song’s message. “EVILJ0RDAN” comes on the heels of Carti’s Travis Scott-assisted single, “BACKR00MS,” which dropped two weeks ago. 

Kota the Friend – “YUMA”

Kota the Friend rhymes about “gettin g’s over rap beats” in his jazzy hip-hop offering “YUMA.” As the beat sounds off, Kota the Friend reminisces about getting lifted with his homies, working day in and out toward his goals, and keeping a positive attitude at all costs. He spits, “Hustle for my bread/A n***a done known famine/Wisdom in my dreads/It’s heavy but I manage.” As the song continues, the MC asserts that as long as he’s successful, his friends will be too. “YUMA” also finds Kota the Friend showcasing his tenacity as no challenge in life can make him back down. “Every day we having celebrations/Revelation after revelation,” he raps. “I see the struggle like tuition for the education.” “YUMA” is one of the many singles that can be found on his upcoming project, Lyrics to GO, Vol 5

Cozz – “Evil Ways (Freestyle)”

Cozz spits over a sample of Drake’s “Evil Ways” in his song that carries the same name. In his freestyle, the Dreamville MC raps about self-evolving, spitting, “I need to change/I got some things I need to rearrange/Down to my mental and my eating ways.” Additionally, Cozz raps about escaping from the pain with new ink, finding light in the darkness, and “standing out like a white shirt with a Cheetos stain.” Elsewhere, Cozz speaks about his upbringing, lyrical poise, having tough skin, and staying money-hungry and ambitious. “If I ever count the money/Know that cheese will grate,” Cozz raps. Throughout the freestyle, he drops impressive one-liners and witty rhymes seamlessly. 

PxRRY and Shreta – “Only One”

PxRRY and Shreta’s “Only One” is about having a partner that feels like home. In the acoustic guitar-ridden R&B record, PxRRY explains why his special someone will always come back, implying that he’s the only one who will love her to the fullest. “Only one who’s going to make sure that your mind at ease,” he sings. “Only one you call at night for what you need.” No matter who she’s dating at the time, PxRRY is confident that she’ll always come back to him because he knows how to tend to this woman’s every need. Shreta sings from the woman’s point of view, saying, “break up to make up just for you to come and turn me out.” Like PxRRY, Shreya knows her partner won’t find someone like her. The song ultimately shows others why the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. 

 Chris Haze – “Everybody”

Chris Haze shows others how we share commonalities in his feel-good 2000s-esque hip-hop offering “Everybody.” While using a swift flow, Chris Haze raps about everyone experiencing a death, going through trials and tribulations, and trying to achieve their goals. Likewise, “Everybody” encourages the masses to come together. Lyrics like “Everybody hides and everybody’s trying to hide from their own s**t/See everybody dies and everybody’s going to feel the pain and they know this,” bring the narrative home.  

Offset accused of cheating on Cardi B with Winnie Harlow by a Miami dancer

Within recent years, Cardi B and Offset’s marital issues have constantly made their way into headlines. Since their 2019 nuptials, the couple have publicly faced divorce rumors in which Cardi B initially filed in 2020. They have since gotten back together, however, this was not the end of their marriage issues escaping the public. Last month, Cardi B took to Instagram live to share what seemed to be the end of their relationship as she shared her separation between her and Offset. After the holidays, the pair have been spotted in public together which seemingly signified their reconciliation. As Offset has battled cheating rumors throughout their marriage, there seems to be a new set of allegations his way.

During a recent episode of the “We In Miami” podcast, a dancer appeared to be accusing Offset of cheating on Cardi B while attempting to try to cheat with her. Additionally, she shared that she previously worked at a club with Cardi B while accusing her of being “jealous” of the dancer. “I seen him trying to holla but you know I played my position because I’m not  thirsty,” she said. She continues to tell the story detailing how she initially saw the couple on a yacht together. This is where she alleges Offset’s attempt to try to get with her. Confidently, she continued to restate how she turned him down.

Offset has a new set of rumors 

Moreover, the dancer also alleged his involvement with another woman outside of Cardi B. She also believed  that Offset had been dating model Winnie Harlow after Cardi gave him a “pass” to do so. “I think he smashed Winne Harlow,” she said. She further alleged  that she saw both Offset and Winnie together in a strip club appearing to be cozy together. “Because guess what …if you in the strip club and you sitting next to Winne Harlow and you touching on her leg.. Yall got something going on. 

Furthermore, the snippet from the “We in Miami” podcast has continued to be reshared amongst has headlines. The podcast’s Instagram page currently has over 100 thousands views. While most of the fans In the comments are not believing the allegations, however, some are starting to believe it due to Cardi B and Offset’s past public fallouts. 

Diddy and Diageo have cut ties and settled year long lawsuit alleging racism

Within the past few months, Sean “Diddy” Combs has been in headlines for a series of lawsuits. One of these being filed by singer Cassie accusing him of decades of sexual misconduct. Additionally, he settled the lawsuit within 48 hours of its filing. A lawsuit he filled last year has made its way back into headlines. Earlier this week, Diddy and Diageo released a joint statement. Mr Combs bought the DeLeon brand in partnership with Diageo in 2013.

The statement between both parties about Diddy withdrawing from their lawsuit was released. “Sean combs and Diageo have now agreed to resolve all disputes between them. Mr. Combs has withdrawn all of his allegations about Diageo and will voluntarily dismiss his lawsuits against Diageo with prejudice,” the statement, reads. Diddy accused the brand of racism and not prioritizing or giving adequate marketing their collaboration beverage, DeLeón tequila. He initially filled the lawsuit last year in which the details of the filing loss popularity overtime.

Diddy and Diageo’s partnership history

The pair have a long standing history which dates back to their partnership of Cîroc vodka in 2007. Initially, their contract was a 50/50 multimillion dollar deal between the two parties. Just seven years later, Diddy and Diageo collaborated again with DeLeón. After Diddy’s lawsuit filing, Diageo decades to part ways with the music mogul.During the statement in the lawsuit, restates that  Diddy’s part ownership has been withheld.. This leaves Diageo as the now the sole owner of both DeLeón tequila and Cîroc vodka. Diageo also owns over 200 liquor brands including Casamigos Tequila,Crown Royal, Smirnoff, Don Julio, and tons more. 

Furthermore, Diddy has pulled back from the public as he has remained the center of a series of lawsuits. Shortly after Cassie filed against him for sexual misconduct, a few more were stacked against him with the same allegations. This week it was also announced that Diddy will not be in attendance for the 2024 Grammy awards. Dispute his current nomination for ‘Best Progressive R&B’ album, Diddy has given the heads up that he will not be  making an appearance. 

Pootie and Nothing Neue connect at a carwash for their latest music video “Rinse and Repeat”

Pootie hails from Hoboken, New Jersey. He pulls musical inspiration from a deep range of artists including The Isley Brothers, The Alchemist, Prince, and many more. Nothing Neue is a Brooklyn native who pulls musical inspiration from various people. Some include J Dilla, Flying Lotus, AFTA-1, Madlib, DJ Premier and A Tribe Called Quest. Moreover, Pootie pulls his artist name from a childhood nickname that he evolved into an acronym. Meaning Progressively, Overcoming, Obstacles, Through, Instrumental, Enlightenment.

However, Pootie describes his sound as a product of the times and environment. He shares, “As a producer, I love finding unique samples and breathing new life into them by chopping them up in a tasteful way. While layering them with drums and other samples from other genres and times. As a rapper, I’d describe my sound as modern, underground & constantly growing.”

Moreover, Neue’s production style is inspired by late-90’s and early 2000’s Hip Hop and R&B. He tends to layer vintage synthesizers and instruments with the latest production techniques to hone in on a sound that exists in its own space. Furthermore, on January 24th, the producer-rapper duo shared a hazy and comedic music video for “Rinse and Repeat”

Pootie & Neue on the visual inspiration

The single and visuals was inspired by 1970s soul, blaxploitation movies and the combination of the duo’s respective sounds and influences. Neue detailed his inspiration behind the production. “I was looking for a way to score a background that fits Pootie’s distinctive voice and abstract rhyme style and this was the best way to complement those elements”.

Furthermore, the entertaining music video sees Pootie training a new employee at his fictional job, the car wash. Throughout the shift, the rapper opts to not work ultimately getting caught by his boss leading to his firing. Moreover, the warm tone of the music video matches seamlessly with the energy of the song. Pootie weaves between the jazz-sampled instrumental with clever bars and a relaxed flow.

In addition, the rapper shares that “Rinse and Repeat” is inspired by the working class. He went on to say, “This project is about growth, the want to succeed, and knowing where we are isn’t where we’ll always be.” Moreover, Pootie is currently working on finalizing a self-produced body of work and is expected to drop this summer.

However, Nothing Neue is currently focussed on a pop-leaning project with his partner Chenoa Tarin. The producer also has some more instrumental music on the way under Alpha Pup Records alongside remixes and loosies. The producer shared “Me and Pootie are already thinking of different ways to build on the world of ‘Rinse and Repeat.'” The New Jersey rapper leaves us with a passionate message detailing what he wants fans to take away from his music.

“I just hope the level of f**ks given shines through in the product, I hope they can tell how much elbow grease nothing neue and I put into this,” he says. Moreover, he says that there’s power in creatives creating art. “And if they’re creatives I want them to know there’s power in art, power in music, and power in believing in and loving ourselves.”
