Interview: Music collective 100Fold on “Gary Payton,” remaining authentic, and fusing distinct sounds

100fold

For those unacquainted with the sonic world of 100Fold, it’s time to dive into a musical journey that defies norms and embraces the eclectic. The eight-person collective, hailing from various corners of the United States, brings a fusion of distinct sounds, live instrumentation, and a creative ethos that sets them apart. In a recent interview with Remixd Magazine, the group shared insights into their origins, inspirations, and their exciting new release, “Gary Payton.”

The name 100Fold isn’t just a catchy moniker; it stems from the biblical theme of reaping what you sow, a notion deeply embedded in the group’s ethos. “Originating as a mindset of investing in each other and multiplying growth, 100Fold evolved during the pandemic as this group of artists met online for weekly beat battles and production breakdowns,” they told Remixd Magazine. Moreover, the group’s weekly beat battles and production breakdowns created a culture of sharing knowledge and encouraging artistic development.

However, this collaborative spirit paved the way for their debut project, “GERM!,” released in February 2023. A collection of vibrant songs, “GERM!” showcased the unique chemistry within the group, blending live musicianship with left-field production.

Describing 100Fold’s sound

Describing their sound as “distinctive flows, personable/quirky sound selections, and ambitious song structures,” 100Fold aims to evoke different emotional responses with each track. Live instrumentation, combined with unconventional production choices, gives each song a unique personality, offering listeners a varied and immersive experience. Moreover, the collective’s passion for music is deeply rooted in seeing ideas through to completion. The adrenaline rush, coupled with a form of therapeutic release, motivates them to express emotions that might be challenging to convey in everyday conversations. Influences ranging from Frank Ocean and Hiatus Kaiyote to Tyler the Creator and Kanye West contribute to their diverse and polished sound.

Furthermore, their latest single, “Gary Payton,” pays homage to the iconic NBA player, channeling his relentless energy and tenacity. Featuring Texas artist BBY KODIE, known for collaborations with Lil Yachty, the song seamlessly intertwines gritty styles, trap production, and live strings, creating a cinematic orchestral soundscape.

“We were intentional about the amount of bass we put on this song, so we want this song to be a hit during performances,” they shared about “Gary Payton.”

In addition, as 2024 unfolds, 100Fold is gearing up for new releases with a rotating cast of collaborators. Their infectious energy and commitment to pushing boundaries promise exciting soundscapes in each upcoming track. The group encourages fans to support “Gary Payton” while anticipating the dynamic sounds they’ll be showcasing in the months ahead.

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky step out in style for Paris Fashion Week

Rihanna

Rihanna and ASAP Rocky’s black and gold fits stole the show at Paris Fashion Week

It’s time to step back into runway season and Paris is the first stop! The city of Paris is once again the center of attention as numerous fashion enthusiasts, aspiring designers, and public figures flock to the city for the highly-anticipated Paris Fashion Week. It is one of the most prominent events in the fashion industry, where designers showcase their latest collections to the world and attract a diverse range of celebrities. This year, as per usual, a multitude of musical artists attended the fashion week, and their presence was felt! Not just in the front row, but also on the runway and in the soundtracks of shows.

From the fashion-forward music mogul, Pharrell Williams to Pusha T, J-Lo, Jay-Z and many more – the stunning styles showered the streets and shows of Paris! One of the highly anticipated attendees in the fashion world was none other than Rihanna, who never fails to turn heads with her out-of-this-world looks. Bad gal Riri alongside hip-hop heavy hubby, A$AP Rocky both were spotted sporting some sleek black and gold outfits.

An all black affair

Rihanna has always been known for her iconic style and fashion sense. On her Paris Fashion Week appearance, she did not disappoint. Posing in front of the cameras with ASAP Rocky, Rihanna looked stunning. She slayed in her black top that featured a sheer midriff panel and oversized cuffs. Rihanna complemented her black top with a matching black skirt with a high slit that showed off her toned legs. One of the best things about Rihanna’s outfit was accessorizing it with a chunky gold necklace and oversized earrings that were sure to make a statement.

ASAP Rocky may have played it a little safe with his outfit, but it was striking nonetheless. He wore a black shirt with a gold print, which he layered with a black turtleneck. Completing the look was a black overcoat, black leather pants and black boots. To top it all up, he accessorized with a chunky gold chain. Both Rihanna and ASAP Rocky’s statement pieces were their gold accessories.

During another appearance, RiRi rocks an all-black ensemble featuring a puffy belted jacket and a matching above-the-ankle skirt. She accentuated the look with a black baseball cap that was cocked to the side, a set of leather gloves, and a pair of white pumps.

As the flicks starting flowing in, commenters began chiming in on the celebrity couple. With that being said, many fans were quick to point out Rihanna’s wig, saying that it didn’t suit her well. Regardless, it’s hard not to praise Rihanna for always taking risks and challenging fashion norms. Fashion is subjective, so it’s refreshing to see celebrities continuing to take risks with their fashion fits.

While all of Rihanna’s raved looks were flattering, many couldn’t help but to speculate and spark conversation about whether or not the pair are preparing for baby #3. The went crazy in the comments about her choice of oversized looks. In fact, two top responses read, “I think she is pregnant again 😂 hiding that stomach a lot lately” and “The face definitely giving she on baby #3. I know, baby, I had them back-to-back for a few years haha“. It isn’t too far fetched considering a few months back, rumors roared about the two already working on the next following the arrival of baby Riot. Guess we just have to wait and see!
