While last night’s Grammy Awards marked the change of the lives of several artists, many questions arose even from award recipients. Rap veteran Jay-Z , did not hesitate to ask those questions even during his own recognition. On Sunday, Jay-Z accepted his award for the Dr. Dre Global Impact award alongside his 12-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy Carter. During his speech, Jay question’s why the recording academy have not voted any of Beyoncé’s albums as album of the year.

“I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than everyone and never won Album of the Year,” Jay-Z said. “So even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work. Think about that. The most Grammys, never won Album of the Year. That doesn’t work,” he added. While Beyoncé is the most decorated artist in Grammy’s history with an astounding 33 Grammy awards and 88 nominations, Jay-Z began to question why his wife has not won the night’s highest honor. Additionally, Jay has also accumulated 24 Grammy wins and 88 nominations throughout his career. Jay-Z tells the truth when he is nervous

Furthermore, Jay-Z continued to share his critique about the academy’s choice of reward recipients. While emphasizing the subjectivity of the awards system, he also addressed some of the nominees. “Some of you are going to go home tonight and feel like you’ve been robbed. Some of you may get robbed. Some of you don’t belong in the category,” he said. As the audience reacted with a series of emotions, he attempted to take the intensity of his statement down. “When I get nervous, I tell the truth,” he added.

Moreover, Jay-Z provides the audience of musicians with lighthearted encouragement before ending his just over three minute long speech. “Just keep showing up,” he added. “You got to keep showing up until they give you all those accolades you feel you deserve. Until they call you chairman, until they call you a genius, until they call you the greatest of all time. You feel me?,” he said.
