Prez Harris gets candid about his upcoming EP ‘HourGlass’ Deluxe, shares new single ‘tell U bout it’

Prez Harris (@presidentharris) has built quite the buzz for himself as an independent artist. He has already started the year out with a bang. Just last month, he announced his partner artist deal with UnitedMasters. Additionally, Prez is preparing for the release of his deluxe offerings of his 2022 ‘HOURGLASS’ EP. This past Wednesday, he released his latest single ‘tell U bout.’ As the single embodies his fun approach to rap, it gives the a perfect depiction of his sound.

Throughout his love for music, Prez has been able to pick up a versatile range of inspiration. “I would describe it as a sound rooted in hip hop, but is influenced and inspired by soul, funk, gospel, and dance. It’s fun, but also can be thought-provoking or uplifting,” he said. Some of his musical influence include Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Drake, and J.Cole. Music served as a form of healing for him. That same feeling he is hoping to obtain through his listeners.

“There were times where I dealt with struggles that I only knew how to deal with alone and some of my favorite artists at the time made music that comforted me. That’s when I realized the impact music could have on individuals and communities. I always wanted to have that type of impact on the world, but wasn’t sure what was the right medium for me,” he said.

Moreover, Prez’s latest single ‘tell U bout it’ serves as an anthem to his more recent time on the road. “From almost missing our flight back from Toronto to driving a Tesla Model X through LA with all the homies, ‘tell U bout it’ encapsulates the vibrant narrative of my recent tour experiences. It’s a fun song, sharing these stories over an energetic New Orleans bounce-inspired beat,” he said.

For Prez, his experiences through touring have lead to much deeper than music. He is eager to doing more within the community. “What inspires me now is the idea of uniting and bringing change through or as a result of music. For example, with half of our tour proceeds last year, we started a scholarship for HS Black students to attend a college prep boarding school. We want to do more stuff like that,” he said.

Furthermore, Prez is gearing up for the release of his ‘HOURGLASS’ Deluxe EP. The title’s origins encapsulate his past feelings throughout his career. “HOURGLASS stemmed from me feeling like I was running out of time to achieve my music dreams/goal. That was in 2020. Since then, we released a project, went on an international tour, got played on major radio stations, received editorial support, signed a deal, etc. So, keep going and keep God first. You never know how close you are to achieving all the things you’ve dreamed of,” he said.

Prez’s new EP will feature two new songs. The project is scheduled for release February 21st. You can stream his latest single ‘tell U bout it’ down below.
