best new music

Remixd Magazine’s best new music expands on the meaning of self-love. From Metro Boomin and Future‘s LP We Don’t Trust You to BreezyLYN‘s Hood Mona Lisa, our list shows readers how this archetype sets the standard for others.

Read our selection below:

Metro Boomin and Future – We Don’t Trust You

Metro Boomin and Future’s new album, We Don’t Trust You is officially here after being teased for nearly a year. Featuring heavy hitters like The Weeknd, Travis Scott, and Rick Ross, to name a few — We Don’t Trust You signifies the rap and producers’ success, life experiences, self-assurance, and go-getter mentality. The themes in We Don’t Trust You revolve around their lavish lifestyles, unwavering loyalty, and the truer definition of standing on business.

A standout on the LP, however, comes from Kendrick Lamar‘s diss to J. Cole and Drake on “Like That.” Without missing a beat, he spits “Sneak dissin’, first-person shooter, I hope they came with three switches.” The title of Metro Boomin and Future’s album takes inspo from the producer’s tag “If Young Metro don’t trust you, I’m gon’ shoot you,” which is created by Future. The second installment to the 17-track offering will debut on April 12, 2024.

Bryson Tiller – “CALYPSO”

Serving as a highlight off his upcoming self-titled album, “CALYPSO” finds the multi-talented musician praising a special lady who caught his eye from the moment she walked into the function. Bryson Tiller’s avid storytelling is met with an afrobeat R&B offering that seemingly mirrors their hot and heavy exchange. Although her looks captivated him, her dance moves kept him sprung. The “Whatever She Wants” artist sings, “Bust when she moves her hips slow/Already knew you were bad but I act like I didn’t know/90210 the zipcode/There’s a party in my bed, can I send you the info?” Before the song ends, Bryson Tiller spits more game at her and suggests they end their night between the sheets

BreezyLYN – Hood Mona Lisa

BreezyLYN’s new project Hood Mona Lisa emphasizes the importance of self-love and not settling for less. The 9-track offering’s name is inspired by the famous 1503 painting created by Leonardo da Vinci. Comprised of guest appearances by 2RareeKalii, and Lola BrookeHood Mona Lisa further expands on the male gaze, what it means to love the skin you’re in, and how to protect your peace. The first song, “Intro,” pays homage to Jay-Z and their shared birthplace of Marcy Houses. Pain In Da A*s via Reasonable Doubt narrates the single. Other songs on Hood Mona Lisa highlight her versatility, vivid rhymes, and lyrical prowess. Utilizing her emotion as a superpower, Hood Mona Lisa shows listeners the beauty behind living in your truth.

Big Sean – “Precision”

Big Sean reflects on “shooting his shot” to make it to hip-hop’s big league via “Precision.” Interpolating Three 6 Mafia’s “Poppin’ My Collar,” the rapper thinks back on his progression, humble beginnings, and how staying fully committed to the pen and pad led him to success. “Precision” also finds the What You Expect MC detailing his ways with women, ambition, lavish lifestyle, and love for his day ones. “I’d die for my team, I’m the coach, I’m recruitin’ (Woo),” he raps. “I’m spendin’ my time and I’m savin’ the day, ho, I feel a mutant, I built like a student/I’m feelin’ bilingual ’cause I’m in Nigeria/Rockin’ the Cubans.” Big Sean’s new single comes on the heels of his “Anderson Estate Freestyle,” which dropped on March 20.

Paperboy Fabe – “Hundred Million Reasons” Featuring Pink Sweat$

Pink $weats list out the pros and cons of his relationship in “Hundred Million Reasons.” Merging Paperboy Fabe’s warm R&B production with the singer’s vulnerable lyrics and a hypnotic singing range, Pink $weats lay his heart on the line. Moreso, the “At My Worst” crooner reveals the doubts he has about their partners’ loyalty. Similarly, Pink $weat$ assures their better half that he’ll always be there through thick and thin. The devotion he feels for this person shows listeners how commitment is what transforms a promise into a reality.

Niko Brim – HUES

Niko Brim’s HUES not only highlights the rapper’s monumental rhymes but also his tenacity and self-progression. The 13-track LP assures listeners that they aren’t alone. Every record takes admiration from his personal experiences and raw emotion. Subsequently, Niko Brim shines light on life’s highs and lows. The project features guest verses from Cory Gunz, Kai Ca$h, K Wales, Eimaral Sol, Heather Victoria, and Iman Nunez. Ultimately, HUES challenges common beliefs and values all while pushing others to make a positive mark in the world. Sonically, HUES blends jazz, boom-bap, trap, and more. The album follows Niko Brim’s EP 4DACOMPANY PACK.
