Beyoncé – Cowboy Carter
Fusing country, house, R&B, and more — Beyoncé’s new album, Cowboy Carter, is filled with songs that take inspiration from Queen Bey’s personal experiences and other hit singles from notorious country artists. Comprised of hit singles “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages,” Bey’s 27-track offering shines light on African American country artists like Reyna Roberts, Linda Martell, and Tanner Adell, to name a few.
Furthermore, Cowboy Carter includes some covers as well like Dolly Parton‘s “Jolene” and The Beatles’ “Blackbird.” Cowboy Carter was birthed out of “an experience that [she] had years ago where [she] did not feel welcomed.” Overall, the album is a nod to all genres and Bey’s musical flair.
.idk and Joey Bada$$ – “DENIM”
Delivering some of their most hardest bars about their relentless grind, charm, and retaliation methods, .idk and Joey Bada$$ brings listeners back to the golden era of hip-hop via “DENIM.” Over the bass-heavy jazzy boom-bap production, .idk raps about making business moves behind the scenes before addressing the opps. In addition, the F65 rapper tells haters never to “disrespect my [his] intellect” and follows his not-so-nice rhymes with self-praise.
However, when Joey Bada$$ hops on the mic, he raps about his lavish lifestyle and success. After, Joey Bada$$ forewarns his opps before things get ugly. “Copped the 911 just to tell these n***as eat my dust/Keep a heater tucked for n***as sneaking up,” he spits. “He think he tough/If he try my hand then imma call his bluff.”
Dee-1 and Raheem DeVaughn – “Purify My Eyes”
Dee-1 and Raheem DeVaughn’s “Purify My Eyes” bring attention to societal issues and media corruption. Addressing the hype behind BBLs, owning expensive items, mindless scrolling, and more, Dee-1 hopes that his rhymes will open people’s eyes so necessary changes can take place for a more positive surrounding.
The MC speaks about his own experiences with treachery as well, rapping, “I seen my business partner steal so much money from me, then run and hide/But I seen God’s word; and he say he ain’t boutta let that slide.” Furthermore, “Purify My Eyes” merges jazz and hip-hop arrangements.
Chris Patrick – “Take Time For Myself”
Chris Patrick‘s brooding jazzy hip-hop cut, “Take Time For Myself,” is about temporarily stepping away from loved ones for your mental health. In nearly three minutes, the New Jersey MC speaks about a few obstacles he overcomes in life. From seeing friends turn into foes to dealing with others who seem to be praying on his downfall, Chris Patrick decides to get some well-deserved space to recuperate. “I really believe paranoia creeping around/I really wanna be so much more for those around/But right now I need to take time for myself,” he spits.
As the song continues, he also shows how success often comes with envy, ill intent, and more. Lyrics like “I know the truth bout it all/Greed was the root of the problem. Nobody left here to solve/Cuz threw me out to the dawgs,” brings the narrative home. Although he saves the people he cares about, it’s time to be his own hero. Furthermore, Chris Patrick’s new song can be found on his upcoming mixtape, THE CALM, which drops on April 3.
YTB Fatt – “Same”
Interpolating R. Kelly and Usher‘s 2007 hit single, YTB Fatt’s “Same” finds the Loaf Boyz Ventures rapper discovering that his significant other isn’t as loyal as she seems. Within minutes, YTB Fatt uses avid storytelling to detail their first encounter, saying that she was there before the fame. Moreover, YTB Fatt reveals that his girlfriend is romantically involved with his friend also.
Furthermore, despite this, YTB Fatt wants them to keep seeing each other, rapping, “Whole time, she f***in’ with five, Joe/I couldn’t believe my eyes/I caught the h*e by surprise” and “I like how she stayin’ down with the kid, for that, I’ma make her my b***h.”

Mozzy and Eric Bellinger – “Jaded”
Serving as a highlight off his upcoming album, Children of the Slums, Mozzy’s “Jaded” is a moderate hip-hop meets R&B offering that finds the rapper spreading awareness about street life and how sometimes it’s hard to break away from. However, Mozzy’s introspective rhymes pushes others in this lifestyle to find a way out. He spits, “Weight of the world, stand thorough is the objective. Correction is needed but hard to see from this perspective.”
“Nobody born in the slums has a choice,” Mozzy told Audible Treats about the record. “Born into those kinds of circumstances, it’s hard to imagine a way to get out. They don’t have anyone to look out for them or to show them a better way. I’m still looking out for all the children of the slums. I am there for them because I know if the situation was flipped, they would do the same for me.”
Homixide Gang – “Hi-Voltage”
Homixide Gang’s charged-up trap offering “Hi-Voltage” is loaded with flex-worthy rhymes, braggadocio, and tough talk aimed at their opposing forces. In under two minutes, Homixide Meechie and Homixide Beno! rap about bagging women, their luxurious lifestyle, and escaping reality through their vices. “Hi-Voltage” finds the dynamic duo settling the score with their opps and staying loyal to the soil as well. Lyrics like “I’m with the t**ts and we blazin’ like flames/Slime one of us and we slide with a stick/Get to the money we stackin’ it up,” bring the narrative home.
