ZILOH unveils his personal story in debut single, “KWYA”

ZILOH

ZILOH (@zilohmusic) is a brand-new artist that should be on everyone’s radar. Recently, he unveiled his debut single “KWYA” and looks to prove why he’s the next hot topic out of Canada. Remixd Magazine had the opportunity to speak with ZILOH about his debut single and goals for the future.

The Toronto-born, Vancouver-based artist makes lively music inspired by the early 2000’s era pulling from the Clipse, the Neptunes, and the West Coast. He cites Tyler the Creator, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg and DJ Quik as major influences. His style blends nostalgic sounds with clever lyricism and positive energy.

ZILOH aims to make his songs fun but also uses them as a therapeutic outlet. As a major fan of hip-hop culture and music, he wanted to create his own music to add to the legacy. “I want to listen to music that I like. I’m inspired by the creativity of rap music. I’m blown away when I hear a song like “Ebonics” from Big L, or “Stan” by Eminem. I want to keep the creativity and cleverness in rap music.”

Debut Single “KWYA”

ZILOH made his explosive introduction on May 16th with his debut single “KWYA” featuring Jacey and executive produced by TWXLL. “This single is how the audience can get to know me. If you love it great. I have more for you soon.”

The title is an abbreviation for Know Who You Are and serves as the inspiration for the song. “The song is a short introduction into a glimpse of who I am and what you’re going to hear from me in the future. It’s over a west-coast instrumental, a sound I loved growing up and thought was perfect on a song like this,” he continued.

His west-coast influence shines through in the song’s instrumental, supported by a G-Funk-inspired background vocal incorporating a talkbox. He taps Jacey for a bright pop-fused hook with the catchy refrain. ZILOH immediately jumps into the song’s bouncy production detailing his personal life. Many listeners can relate to the honest lyrics baked inside the fun and melodic track.

With “KWYA” springboarding his music career, ZILOH and TWXLL promise to keep the vibes rolling throughout the year.
