Culture Creators is known for honoring movers and shakers in entertainment, business, and culture. This year, they kicked off the BET Awards weekend with its 8th Annual Innovators and Leaders Awards Brunch at the Beverly Hilton on June 28th. This event was the perfect wrap-up to “Black Music Month,” bringing together a mix of celebrities and influencers for a day filled with celebration and inspiration. But the most touching moment came when Lena Waithe surprised everyone by honoring Teyana Taylor with the Innovator of the Year Award, recognizing Taylor’s significant impact on culture.
“Heavenly Father God, I thank you for who you are,” Taylor said as she accepted the award. “All-seeing, all-knowing and all-powerful. Let me tell you something about your favor. Father God, your favor cannot be stopped, you hear me? I know you’re hear me, so let your daughter cook. Let me cook. Lord, you told me in John 8:12 that you are the light of the world and if I followed you … I wouldn’t have to walk in darkness because you would have the light that leads to life.”

The foundation aims to empower students from underrepresented backgrounds in industries lacking diversity. Funds raised will go towards scholarships and mentorship for students across 35 universities, helping them thrive academically and professionally.
Founder Joi Brown took center stage with a powerful call to action, urging unity and innovation within the community. Fashion was a highlight too, with Angela Simmons honoring Claire Sulmers for her influential work on Fashion Bomb Daily.
The ICON Award was presented to Lorrie Bartlett, celebrated by her friends Lee Daniels, Regina King, and Andra Day for her groundbreaking work in representation.
