Cash Cobain is capitalizing on a “slizzy summer,” with brand new album ‘Play Cash Cobain’

Cash Cobain

Cash Cobain is making major waves this summer, cementing his status as one of the hottest names in the game right now. Fresh off a trifecta of major accolades—being named an Apple Up Next artist, a 2024 XXL Freshman, and Billboard’s Rookie of the Month—Cash has just dropped his highly-anticipated sophomore album Play Cash Cobain (via Giant Music). Alongside the album, he released a music video for “Act Like,” his long-awaited tribute to Pop Smoke, which made its debut across MTV Live, MTVU, BET Jams, and even lit up the Paramount Times Square billboards. The hype is real, and Cash is riding high.

Cash’s meteoric rise hit another milestone this week when he graced the cover of The New York Times Print Arts Section, where they crowned him as an artist “changing the sound of drill.” The buzz around Play Cash Cobain has been electric, following the release of his last single “Problem,” a 15-person Slizzy mix that featured a who’s-who of rap royalty. The track, nearly 8 minutes of pure heat, leaned on a viral sample from Brooklyn newcomer Laila!’s hit “Not My Problem” and featured heavyweights like Fabolous, Big Sean, Flo Milli, and more. The posse cut was a throwback to the 2000s, a reminder of the days when rap’s biggest stars would unite on a single track.

Cash Cobain: The Slizzy Summer Continues with “Play Cash Cobain”

Play Cash Cobain doesn’t stop there, though. The 19-track album is loaded with marquee features from Quavo, Don Toliver, and Laila!, along with long-time collaborators like Vontee The Singer and Payroll. Crafted during an intense eight-month creative spree, the album captures the energy of late nights, romance, and the essence of his self-coined “Slizzy Summer.”

As if that wasn’t enough, Cash is set to headline his first solo NYC show at the historic Brooklyn Paramount next month, a follow-up to his legendary, if chaotic, ‘Slizzy Fest’ at Irving Plaza. Cash Cobain is ready to take over, and he’s inviting everyone to join the ride. In his own words, “I’m feeling sexy, slizzy— I’m just happy to give y’all this music finally. It’s a Slizzy Summer!”

Breakout R&B singer Nobu Woods shares new music “SAVIOR”

Nobu Woods

Today, breakout alt-R&B singer Nobu Woods makes his major-label debut with the audacious new single “SAVIOR.” Listen HERE via Second Estate Records Warner Records. Combining poignant lyrics with moody, understated production, the track is a powerful calling card from the Queens native, heralding another serious player in the ever-expanding world of alt-R&B.

“Back in the day you prayed I’d be down and now I’m your favorite,” Woods sings over tight percussion and ethereal, fluttering tones. “Baby, you’re losing your mind.” Later, in the chorus, the rising artist emphasizes that he’s no longer interested in pursuing a relationship: “What makes you think imma save you’” he declares. “I’m not your savior.” Anthemic and powerful, the atmospheric kiss-off showcases Woods‘ unique perspective and artistry.

That description also applies to the moody visual. Taking inspiration from film noir and classic thrillers, the video begins with Woods enjoying a solitary drink in a bar until a femme fatale enters the room and triggers a series of evocative scenes with grainy filters and seductive lighting. There’s even a cliffhanger of an ending that hints at a larger storyline.

“Over time I’ve noticed as more people discover my music, seeing the numbers go up, my exes have been trying to show up in my life again,” Woods says of the song’s inspiration. “It’s been a mix of feelings along the way for me. What’s been happening has inspired me to realize the reasons why I had to leave those girls in my past.” He then goes on to break down the lyrics.

“The message is that even though you’re trying to be in and out of my life, I’m not here to save you,” Woods adds. “You have to get it on your own now. Same goes for the girls who wouldn’t give me the time of day but suddenly want the chance to know me now. I always heard other artists talk about this, but I didn’t really understand the extent of it. I think no matter what type of growth someone is experiencing in their lives, the song is about a feeling we can all relate to.”

SAVIOR” is Woods’ first release since signing with Second Estate Records Warner Records. Prior to that, he rolled out his EP MIDNIGHT MOTIONS in the winter of 2023, which included tracks like “TWENTY NIGHTS” and “LUCKY ACE.” To date, the EP has amassed over 13 million streams on Spotify alone. It was preceded by his first-ever EP, IRIS, in 2022, which introduced the brooding, magnetic sound he continues to perfect.

Now, with “SAVIOR” and much more to come, Woods is ready to level up and bring his shape-shifting brand of R&B to a whole new audience.

Jaylen Brown showcases music talents with new single “Just Do It” ft. Ferg

jaylen brown

Boston Celtics shooting guard Jaylen Brown continues to put his talents to use and elevate his game off the court with the release of a collaborative new single, “Just Do It,” featuring Ferg through Create Music Group. The track, which follows the Olympics basketball game, marks a significant moment in Brown’s evolving musical career. Known for his athletic journey, Brown has expressed that rap music has been a crucial part of his life journey, integrating the genre seamlessly into his daily routine. Influenced by hip-hop icons 50 Cent, Lil Wayne, Tupac and Kendrick Lamar, Brown’s musical roots are deeply entwined with his Atlanta upbringing, where he developed a strong artistic reverence for artists like André 3000, Gucci Mane and T.I.

Brown’s appreciation for Shakur’s impactful lyrics has significantly shaped his confident and rhythmic delivery. He cites the revolutionary figure as an artist whose music resonated profoundly with him growing up, reflecting his own values and leadership qualities. Brown believes that Atlanta’s rich cultural landscape has played a pivotal role in his development as a rap artist, positioning the city as a beacon of Black creativity and innovation for multiple decades. This influence is evident in “Just Do It,” a charismatic track that blends personal and collective experiences, highlighting both the highs and lows of relationships while addressing challenges and detractors.

Stream “Just Do It” By Jaylen Brown x FERG

“Just Do It” is a slower tempo track, which allows Brown and Ferg to equally shine, displaying their witty wordplay over an instrumentally sparse, 808-beat that advises listeners to not hate the player, but to hate the game. The cut’s narrative delves into the complexities of relationships alongside the perseverance required to overcome obstacles such as ignoring haters, emphasizing themes of resilience and greatness. Ferg, who initially gained recognition as A$AP Mob’s main clothing designer, has been a recognizable and respected power broker in the music game since his 2007 debut, demonstrating his versatility with impressive storytelling and prolific rhymes. His collaboration with Brown represents a fusion of artistic and athletic excellence, merging two worlds that have influenced both their personal and professional lives.

The release of “Just Do It” promises to be a testament to Brown’s dedication to his craft and his ability to bridge the gap between shooting in the gym and recording in the studio. Fans can anticipate a melodic and introspective song that reflects both artists’ unique point of view on love and life.

“SHE LUV” is a catchy bop with smooth vocals over a relaxed sexy drill-inspired instrumental. iB shows off various flow and vocal abilities throughout the single while boasting flirtatious and braggadocious bars. The visuals directed by nkhlsview, offer a fun viewing experience weaving between digital and camcorder footage showing off the lifestyle of iB.

“I was listening to a lot of Cash Cobain, Chow Lee and R2RMoe and wanted to put my own twist to that sound. I’ve been a fan of their music for a while so it was fun to step into that world.”

“SHE LUV” has slowly generated buzz in North America and the UK, tallying over 20,000 streams across DSPs and landing multiple editorial placements such as ‘New In Hip Hop’, ‘The Plug’ and ‘Northern Bars’’.

Speaking of girl groups, you ladies are managed by the Legendary Ian Burke who’s responsible for groups such as TLC he’s worked with Xscape, Arrested Development, OutKast and many more solo acts in the industry. How does it feel to be apart of such an incredible musical legacy and essentially carrying the torch as a fresh new girl group?

A: Mikki Vi: Honestly it feels unbelievable. As much work that we put in and time with Ian, it is so unbelievable that they really cleared the path for us. It’s so surreal and so humbling. We’re just so grateful to be here and have the opportunity to create and wok with each other and make some really creative stuff together.

Being that you ladies are pursuing both school and music, how are you all able to find that balance between career, personal, as well as education?

A: Kai: it really involves brining schoolwork to the studio sometimes. If I’m not recording I’m doing school work. if LB is not recording she’s doing school work. definitely a lot of communication as well. We are really big on communicating with each other like.. Hey I have this essay to do help me out with it and were going to the studio after.

Mikki Vi: And really like scheduling when it comes to studio time and stuff like if we have a test we push back the studio time to study or take the test and just being able to help each other regarding work and doing homework on the was to the studio sometimes.
