Valentine’s Day mood: The perfect pre-date routine for music lovers

Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. Music and romance go hand in hand, just like a great playlist and a confident smile. Whether you’re gearing up for a candlelit dinner or a vibey night out, setting the right mood starts with self-care. Taking time to look and feel your best can boost confidence and set the tone for an unforgettable date night. From skincare to scent and a radiant smile, here’s how to curate the perfect pre-date routine—music lover style.

1. Set the Valentine’s Day Mood with the Right Playlist

Every great night starts with a soundtrack. Whether you’re feeling classic R&B, smooth jazz, or the latest Afrobeats and hip-hop love songs, create a playlist that hypes you up while keeping the romance alive. Channel your inner Usher, Sade, or Brent Faiyaz and let the music set the vibe as you get ready. Luckily, Remixd Magazine put one together for you on Spotify. Listen here.

2. Skincare: Glow Like Beyoncé

Great skin is like a platinum record, timeless and always in style. Just like Beyoncé and Pharrell, who swear by skincare as part of their self-care rituals, hydration and consistency are key. Before your date, cleanse, exfoliate, and moisturize to achieve that smooth, healthy glow. A good face mask or under-eye patches can also help you look refreshed and ready for the night.

3. Fragrance: The Final Touch

A signature scent is as memorable as a hit song. It lingers long after the moment is over. Celebrities like Rihanna are known for her intoxicating fragrances. A couple of spritzes on your pulse points (wrists, neck, and behind the ears) will have you leaving a lasting impression. We love Fenty’s Eau de Parfum particularly, which has warm sensual notes.

4. Brighten Your Smile Like a Star

A confident smile is the ultimate accessory, and music icons like Alicia Keys, Chris Brown, and Janelle Monáe are known for their dazzling grins. But achieving a camera-ready smile doesn’t have to be complicated.

That’s where Lumineux® Whitening Strips come in. Unlike traditional whitening strips that can cause sensitivity, Lumineux® is designed to be gentle yet effective, using ingredients like Dead Sea salt, coconut oil, and lemon peel oil to enhance your smile without discomfort. Whether you’re flashing your pearly whites over dinner or capturing the perfect selfie, a radiant smile can make all the difference.

5. Confidence is Key

At the end of the day, the best part of any pre-date routine is feeling comfortable and confident in your own skin. Especially when it comes to Valentine’s Day. Whether you’re stepping out for a concert, a lounge night, or a cozy dinner, self-care is about embracing your own unique style and energy.

So, press play on your favorite love songs, glow up like your favorite artist, and let your smile shine just as bright. Because when you feel good, you look good—and that’s the real formula!

Songs we think Kendrick Lamar might include on his Super Bowl Halftime show setlist

Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar is ready to take the stage at the Super Bowl this year and he’s had one heck of a year to rally people up. The Compton-born rap icon will headline the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show, taking on the biggest stage in American entertainment. His announcement came via a short but powerful video, where he stated, “My name is Kendrick Lamar, and I will be performing at Super Bowl 59. Will you be pulling up? I hope so. You know it’s only one opportunity to win a championship, no round twos.” This final line is widely interpreted as a jab at his longtime rival, Drake. He references their ongoing rap beef that dominated the hip-hop scene throughout the past year.

On January 23, 2025, it was revealed that SZA would be joining Kendrick for this monumental performance. Moreover, at the Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Press Conference recently, Kendrick spoke about his approach to the show. He stated, “I’ve always been very open about storytelling through my catalog and my history of music. I like to always carry on that sense of making people listen, but also see and think a little.”

Furthermore, Kendrick has a wide catalog of critically acclaimed hits and a high-energy performances. And everyone is eager to see which tracks he will bring to the Super Bowl stage. Below, we break down the likely songs to make the cut. Moreover, we blended past Super Bowl performances with his latest anthems.

Our Kendrick Lamar Super Bowl Halftime Setlist Prediction

  1. “HUMBLE.” – One of Kendrick’s most recognizable hits, “HUMBLE.” was a standout from DAMN., and he previously performed it at the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show in 2022. The song’s hard-hitting beat and lyrics make it a perfect opener to energize a stadium crowd. Thus, we think this song is likely to make the cut.
  2. “DNA.” – Also from DAMN., “DNA.” showcases Kendrick’s flow and lyrical genius. Given its high-energy production, this track would seamlessly transition into a hype-filled segment of the show. Moreover, it’s just a great track and one of Kendrick’s best songs.
  3. “Alright” – A defining anthem of his career, “Alright” from To Pimp a Butterfly is a must-have in his setlist. The song’s uplifting message and cultural significance make it a staple in any Kendrick Lamar performance. Also, a great Super Bowl song.
  4. “Swimming Pools (Drank)” – A classic from good kid, m.A.A.d city, this slower-paced yet infectious hit is definitely fan favorite. There’s potential here for a stadium sing-along moment.
  5. “Not Like Us” – Perhaps the most anticipated song of the night, “Not Like Us” became a viral sensation in 2024 as Kendrick’s response to his feud with Drake. The Super Bowl will be the perfect platform for Lamar to cement his dominance with this diss track. Which fans would love to see played multiple times in an epic victory lap. It’s highly likely this song will play.
  6. “King Kunta” – Another To Pimp a Butterfly classic, “King Kunta” embodies Black excellence. It would add a vibrant, danceable energy to the set.
  7. “TV Off,” “Peekaboo,” and “Squabble Up” – However, while these newer tracks haven’t been performed on a major stage yet, Kendrick’s recent releases have generated significant buzz. And it wouldn’t be surprising to see him mix in fresh material from GNX. These were fan-favorites from the album, too.
  8. Luther” ft. SZA – With SZA officially joining the performance, their collaboration “Luther” is likely to make the setlist. The song’s smooth, melodic elements paired with Kendrick’s lyrics would add unique dynamic to the show. This would give both artists a powerful moment on stage.

Moreover, with Kendrick’s stage presence and SZA’s angelic vocals expected to complement the set, the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show is shaping up to be one for the history books. Whether he performs his diss track on repeat or just performs his many undeniable hits, he can’t go wrong. Kendrick Lamar is ready to seize this moment like a true champion.

Kanye West faces backlash for shocking Virgil Abloh diss amid controversial social media rant

Kanye West

Kanye West has once again found himself at the center of controversy after an explosive and deeply unsettling X (formerly known as Twitter) rant. The rapper and designer, known for his erratic online behavior, took things to another level with a string of shocking posts. This time, he was praising Hitler, calling himself racist, and even declaring Diddy his “idol,” despite the Bad Boy mogul currently facing serious legal trouble.

But perhaps the most unexpected and heartbreaking moment of Ye’s tirade came when he took aim at his late friend and collaborator, Virgil Abloh. In a blunt and jarring tweet, he wrote, “F*CK VIRGIL,” sending shockwaves across social media.

Virgil Abloh, a pioneering designer and former artistic director for Louis Vuitton, passed away in 2021 after a private battle with a rare form of cancer. His influence on both fashion and hip-hop culture is undeniable, and his longtime friendship with Kanye made this insult especially painful for fans.

Kanye and Virgil have a history of working together

Given their history, working together on groundbreaking projects like Donda, Off-White, and early Yeezy designs, many couldn’t believe Ye would go so far as to disrespect his late friend.

Fans quickly took to X to voice their disgust. “Dissing your best friend beyond the grave is too much,” one user wrote. Another simply stated, “Can’t defend this no more.”

It’s not the first time Kanye has made controversial remarks about Virgil. In past interviews, he criticized Abloh’s appointment at Louis Vuitton and even accused the fashion industry of using his late friend to sideline him. But this latest jab, especially in the midst of an already chaotic and troubling outburst, has left even his most loyal supporters questioning where Ye’s head is at.

As the backlash continues to pile on, fans have had enough. Kanye West’s latest antics have once again overshadowed his artistry. Moreover, leaving fans wondering how much further he can push the limits before there’s no one left to listen.

Charlamagne Tha God thinks Kanye West is jealous of Kendrick Lamar: “Kanye wishes that was him right now”

Charlamagne Tha God is never one to hold back his thoughts, and his latest take on Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar is no exception. During a recent episode of The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne suggested that Ye’s recent antics aren’t just random. Moreover, they’re rooted in jealousy.

If you’ve been keeping up with hip-hop headlines, you’ve probably seen the whirlwind of Kanye-related drama this past day or so. From his latest rants to his interview comments about Kendrick, Ye has been making waves yet again. In a recent interview, the Vultures rapper even claimed that he’s the only artist who could take down K.Dot in a battle. But according to Charlamagne, this isn’t confidence. It’s envy.

“You do realize Kanye has been acting out all week because he’s envious of Kendrick’s moment, right?” Charlamagne said bluntly. “That’s just attention-seeking. He’s doing that because he wishes this was him. Kendrick is having a moment for being a prolific artist who took out his number one opp, Drake. Kanye wishes that was him right now.”

Charlamagne shares thoughts on Kanye

The Breakfast Club host didn’t stop there. He went on to call Ye’s recent behavior “cheap” compared to Kendrick Lamar’s historic run. “Kanye, this is a sideshow compared to what Kendrick did on Sunday at the Grammys and what he’s about to do this Sunday at the Super Bowl,” he continued. “Meanwhile, you got people on that stage being rewarded for their art the way that you used to be. And Kendrick just got rewarded five times for a diss track aimed at your number one opp. You wish that was you.”

It’s an interesting perspective. One that highlights how Kendrick Lamar’s dominance in hip-hop right now might be getting under Kanye’s skin. With the Super Bowl halftime show just days away, all eyes are on K.Dot, while Kanye fights to stay in the conversation. Whether Ye is actually jealous or just doing what he always does—command attention—one thing is clear. Kendrick is having a moment, and Kanye can’t ignore it.
