Interview: Stoney is ready for “Some Mo” with her latest release

Stoney

Virginia-born, Los Angeles-based artist Stoney (@goodmorningstoney) is making waves with her latest single, “Some Mo,” a high-energy anthem that dropped on Christmas 2024. The track follows her debut single, “Better Off,” released on Halloween, which tackled the heavy themes of childhood struggles and overcoming dark moments. Now, with “Some Mo,” Stoney is embracing life, confidence, and an unstoppable drive.

Born in a car off Battlefield Boulevard in Chesapeake, Virginia, Stoney—real name Halle Stoney—has always had a unique journey. Moreover, her artist name isn’t just a moniker. It’s a reflection of her identity. While her family still calls her Halle, the nickname “Stoney” stuck when friends kept hyping her up with phrases like, “That’s Stoneyyy!” and “That’s the Stoney factor!” Eventually, it felt more like her true self—so she ran with it.

Now based in Los Angeles, Stoney is carving out her place in the music scene with a sound she describes as “cinematic pop.” Thus, pop music with an epic, immersive feel and unconventional production.

The Inspiration Behind the Music

For Stoney, music is survival. During an interview with Remixd Magazine, Stoney shared her background. Growing up feeling like an outsider at an all-white private school, she said she found solace in songwriting and the music of her favorite artists. Rihanna, SZA, Tierra Whack, Doja Cat, and Frank Ocean all shaped her artistry, inspiring her to create music that’s deeply personal yet universally relatable.

Her debut project, “The Stoney Project,” is a testament to that journey. Moreover, transforming from an insecure kid into a confident artist unafraid to own her story. The project dives into her past struggles and triumphs, balancing raw emotion with empowering energy.

“Music and being an artist is part of the reason I survived my childhood depression,” Stoney tells Remixd Magazine. “Having an immersive and emotional experience with some of my favorite records truly saved me from making a decision that could have ended my life. I wrote everything I was going through into words and into song, and leaned on some of my favorite artists when things felt dark and lonely.”

“That’s why a lot of my music talks about my hero’s journey,” she continued. “Going from being an ugly duckling at an all white private school to now a superhero artist that gets to do what she loves for a living full of confidence. Being able to feel music is such a blessing. It inspires me every day to keep going.”

What’s Next?

Stoney is gearing up to drop her next single. This time, she’s exploring love in all its forms. While she hasn’t locked in a release date yet, fans can expect an official announcement in February.

However, through it all, Stoney hopes her music resonates, especially with young Black girls who feel like they don’t belong. “Even if you can’t see it now, you are better off here,” she says, emphasizing the power of resilience and self-love.

Interview: Chloe Tang finds new “Inspiration” for her music in her newest single

Chloe Tang

Singer songwriter, Chloe Tang (@beefjerkybih) is back and bolder than ever with her new single, “Inspiration.” This past month, the R&B songstress shared the track as her first release since her 2024 EP POISONALITY. Known for her silky vocal delivery, Chloe Tang introduces her latest era while giving listers a glimpses of where she pulls inspiration from.

“Just picture a Pisces girl who grew up idolizing Avril Lavigne but fell in love with R&B later in life,” Chloe Tang told Remixd Magazine. “I write about wanting attention but in the same breath tell everyone to leave me alone, being an emotional wreck while telling people to shake their a**. The music is multi-layered but I guess so am I.”

Get to know Chloe Tang

Born in Phoenix, Arizona, Chloe says her musical journey is deeply rooted within her family. “My Dad always loved music, and he taught himself to play guitar and sing at a young age,” shared with Remixd Magazine. “My parents always said I had an undeniable curiosity for instruments from the moment I was born. It must be in my blood. I’ve also grown to love the other creative aspects of being an artist such as fashion and visuals.”

Her music holds inspiration from artists such as Kehlani, Doja Cat, and Avril Lavigne whom heavily inspired her as a kid. And now, her latest single “Inspiration” furthers her momentum and highlights her creative process as a rising R&B staple.

“The concept of this song actually came about when I took a step back and started to analyze my songwriting process,” Tang said. “I realized a lot of the ideas I have for songs come from people and experiences that weren’t necessarily life changing, but the memories I took away from those relationships were. Even a stranger you spend one night with can spark inspiration.”

Furthermore, “Inspiration” blends sultry beats with lyricism that explore the subtle ways strangers can spark creativity. Tang’s perspective is clear that you don’t need a deep, emotional connection to fuel the artistic process.

“It’s about not taking myself too seriously as an artist and embracing that every day interactions can be just as important to art as a huge breakup,” she says. Moreover, Chloe Tang’s latest single allows listeners to keep an open mind with influences.

Looking ahead, Chloe mentions that she is gearing up for her next release, “I could be yours,” set to drop on March 7. She hints that this upcoming single will have a “rock edge,” which she is particularly excited about exploring.

As far as the message she wants people to take from her music, she says that she wants people to feel “seen and empowered.”

“I want young girls to know it’s ok to be confident,” Chloe Tang says. “I want to make my API community proud by representing us in the music industry so that when they ask their parents if they can pursue arts as a career, there’s an example for them. Also, I want people to get more comfortable with things that are very real but not widely talked about. Sexuality, heartbreak, lust, growth … These are all concepts I wish I was exposed to growing up and now I have the opportunity to speak on them.”

As her latest track “Inspiration” sets the stage for what’s next, it leaves listeners eagerly anticipating the next chapter in Chloe Tang’s musical evolution. Stream “Inspiration” below.
