Keri Hilson opens up about Beyoncé diss regret: “Those Are Not My Words”

Keri Hilson

More than a decade after the release of her 2009 “Turnin Me On (Remix),” Keri Hilson is addressing the controversy that’s followed her ever since. Specifically, the not-so-subtle jab at Beyoncé that had fans in a frenzy.

During a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club, the R&B singer got candid about the infamous line: “You can dance, she can sing / But she need to move it to the left, left.” According to Hilson, those words didn’t come from her at all.

“It’s a regret. But not in the way people think,” she explained. “That’s a song I actually didn’t write. Those are not my words.”

Keri Hilson interview

The lyric, she revealed, was penned by hitmaker Ester Dean. And while Hilson says she pushed back on including it at the time, she ultimately went along with the track. “Automatically, I was like, ‘I’m not saying that.’ That was my position,” she recalled. “I’m an athlete. I am competitive. But I’m not nasty, I’m a finesse player. I don’t look at things like that.”

The fallout from the perceived diss lingered for years, fueling fan drama and straining Hilson’s public image. Despite her impressive catalog and undeniable vocal talent. Her comments now shed new light on the situation. Thus, suggesting she felt boxed into a moment she never wanted to define her.

Ester Dean pens open letter

Ester Dean is speaking out following Keri Hilson’s recent remarks about the infamous “Turnin Me On (Remix),” which many fans took as a diss toward Beyoncé. After Hilson told The Breakfast Club that the lyric—“She need to move it to the left, left”—wasn’t hers and that the moment negatively impacted her career, Dean took to Instagram to set the record straight.

In an open letter, the acclaimed songwriter offered context, not confrontation, explaining how the controversial track came to be. “Back in July 2008, I started working with Polow Da Don in Atlanta,” Dean wrote. “I wasn’t famous. Wasn’t chasing clout. I was in the studio – day and night – writing 3 to 4 songs a day. No friends.’ No family. Just work.”

Dean’s message was as much a defense of her process as it was a reminder of the sacrifices many songwriters make behind the scenes. While Hilson expressed regret over how the record shaped her public image, Dean’s response offered a nuanced look into the high-pressure, fast-paced world of hitmaking.

Though she hasn’t dropped a full studio album since 2010, Hilson’s reflection feels like a step toward rewriting the narrative. And while a public reconciliation between her and Beyoncé might still be wishful thinking, fans are welcoming her honesty. And hoping for a fresh chapter.

Frank Ocean sparks album rumors, sends fans into a frenzy with new Instagram tease

Frank Ocean

Frank Ocean might finally be breaking his silence—and the internet is already in a frenzy.

On April 11, fans discovered a mysterious new Instagram account tied to the elusive R&B artist. This instantly igniting speculation that a long-awaited third album could be on the way. The account features a single post: a photo of Michael Jordan holding up three fingers—a cryptic yet promising clue that many believe hints at Album No. 3.

Ocean, who hasn’t released a full-length project since 2016’s Blonde, has maintained a low profile over the years. He’s dropped only a few scattered singles and staying largely out of the spotlight. But that hasn’t stopped fans from hoping for a return, especially after his canceled Coachella 2023 set left many disappointed and wondering what’s next.

Now, with just one photo and zero captions, the buzz is back. The choice of Michael Jordan only adds fuel to the fire. Could Frank be entering his own “third era”?

While there’s no official confirmation of new music just yet, this subtle tease feels intentional. And very Frank. Mysterious rollouts have always been his style, from the surprise drop of Endless to the carefully orchestrated release of Blonde.

For now, fans are watching closely, refreshing feeds, and decoding every possible sign. If the third album is really coming, it’ll mark nearly a decade since Ocean’s last full project. Are you looking forward to a new Frank Ocean project?

Quavo and Lil Baby link up for new anthem “Legends” accompanied by music video

Quavo

Quavo and Lil Baby are two of Atlanta’s most iconic voices. They have officially joined forces on a new single, “Legends.” The track marks Quavo’s second official release of 2025 and arrives with an equally cinematic music video. Throughout the song and visuals, the two are reppin’ Atlanta every step of the way.

Blending Quavo’s signature melodic flow with Lil Baby’s razor-sharp bars, “Legends” is a declaration of greatness. The track finds both artists reflecting on their come-up. Moreover, they both realize the weight of their influence, and their continued dominance in the rap game. It’s a rare moment that highlights not only their individual strengths but also their chemistry.

In addition, the video opens in a garage filled with luxury whips, a nod to the rewards of their grind. From there, we follow Quavo and Lil Baby through scenes of lavish yacht parties, poolside vibes, and late-night drives through the city. While the visuals radiate success, the lyrics keep things grounded, touching on resilience, loyalty, and the struggles that shaped them.

Quavo, who was recently honored with the Variety Hitmakers Humanitarian of the Year Award for his work with the Rocket Foundation and his mission to end gun violence, continues to channel purpose into his art. “Legends” feels like a full-circle moment—balancing reflection with celebration.

As both artists remain pillars of Atlanta’s cultural and musical landscape, “Legends” is a fitting tribute to their journey and a reminder of their impact. With its mix of introspection and triumph, the track proves that Quavo and Lil Baby are making history.

Awich and FERG join forces for bold cross-cultural collab “Butcher Shop”

Awhich

Japanese rap powerhouse Awich (@awich098) is back with a new single, and this time she’s bringing Harlem’s own FERG along for the ride. Their new track, “Butcher Shop,” is out now and already turning heads for its gritty bars, genre-blending production, and global perspective. Produced by none other than RZA of Wu-Tang Clan, the song slices through language and geography to deliver a raw, high-energy moment that’s both fresh and fearless.

Moreover, how did this cross-cultural collaboration come together? According to a press release, it all started when RZA met Awich during a trip to Japan. Impressed by her passion for hip-hop and her deep respect for its roots, he took her under his wing. Thus, “Butcher Shop” was born. The track seamlessly blends Awich’s sharp delivery and FERG’s street-savvy flow over a heavy-hitting beat, resulting in a track that feels just as at home in Tokyo as it does in New York.

For Awich, “Butcher Shop” represents more than just a fire collab. It’s a reflection of the many layers that shape her as an artist. “This song is a crossroads—Japan and NYC, culture and fashion, luxury and play, sin and consequence,” Awich shares. “Everyone brings their own ‘meat’ to the table, and we slice into the truth. Welcome to our Butcher Shop.”

The release marks a major milestone in Awich’s growing international presence. In 2024, she became the first Japanese rapper to ever perform at Coachella, and she’s since become a go-to name for artists visiting Japan. But she’s not stopping there. With “Butcher Shop” setting the tone, she’s clearly eyeing global dominance. And doing it on her own terms.

Moreover, alongside “Think I Might,” fans can expect more fire from songs like the emotionally rich “Right on Time” and fan-favorite banger “LEFT EYE.”
