Although the Eagles and Chiefs’ football face-off was the main attraction last night at Super Bowl LVII, Rihanna was the true star of the show. Her performance at halftime was highly significant, considering it’s been five years since she stepped foot onstage. The Anti-singer-songwriter rocked an all-red ensemble while her backup dancers wore white. Throughout the performance, you can see her and her dancers maintaining their balance on ascending platforms.
At the end of her performance, Rih also seemingly announced that she’s pregnant with her second child. In just 13 minutes, the singer gave each record her all, ranging from “B*tch Better Have My Money,” “Rude Boy,” “Where Have You Been,” Only Girl (In The World), “We Found Love,” “Work,” “Pour It Up,” and “Diamonds.” to name a few. Outside of her solo offerings, Rihanna sung her collaborative verses for DJ Khaled‘s “Wild Thoughts,” Kanye Wests‘ “All The Lights,” and Jay-Z‘s “Run This Town.” Check out Rihanna’s set-list. While there were certainly a lot of astounding moments at her halftime show, RemixdMag has narrowed it down to 5 moments that really took viewers away.
1) When She Opened With “B*tch Better Have My Money.”
Earlier this week, jokes circulated about tuning out if Rihanna started her halftime performance with “Lift Me Up” due to its slower tempo. But Rih seemed to put these comments to rest after starting with “B*tch Better Have My Money.” The lit-up platforms were met with Rihanna’s powerhouse vocals, and her background dancer’s killer moves. Toward the end, you can also see the Savage x Fenty CEO doing the “brush your shoulders off” dance. It was a great opener that transitioned to other incredible mash-ups.
2) When She Performed “Rude Boy.”
Rihanna’s performance for “Rude Boy” opened up with a sonically pleasing rendition of the classic hit. For the EDM-styled remix, Rihanna’s dancers swayed away one by one with a hand gesture before they made a path for Rihanna. From there, the dances broke out into a belly roll before bouncing back up to lay down a few moves. Rihanna looked past her shoulder, and they all began to lay down some footwork. A whistle then signaled for the next move. Before the song closes, you can see Rihanna do the infamous crotch grab.
3) When She Performed “Work”
Shortly after “Rude Boy,” Rihanna kept the momentum high with “Work.” At the beginning of this record, her background singers can be seen doing belly dance that brings them to the ground. Afterward, they continue the choreography through a reverse plank that eventually transitions to a crawl. While she sings, Rihanna walks down the stairs as they follow her one by one. Eventually, they all come together to do their own share of dance moves, making it a standout performance.
4) When She Performed “All The Lights.”
Before symbolically plugging in Fenty Beauty by applying blush, her background dancers ran to her with open arms (literally). From there, Rihanna makes her way to a red box onstage while her dancers do their choreography on the sidelines. A moment later, you can see Rihanna and half of the backup dancers on the field while some are on platforms. Together, they do in-sync choreography that welcomes “Run This Town”‘s brooding production.
5) When She Performed “Diamonds”
For this performance, Rihanna’s vocals were supported by a symphony. As the platforms begin to rise, the spotlight is given to the singer who sings “Diamonds” in an acapella fashion. Her breathtaking performance is also met with a series of lights that allude to “we’re beautiful like diamonds in the sky.” As the song progresses, Rihanna elevates higher, and the camera eventually pans out to the audience, showing the mass of support she has as both an artist and entrepreneur.
