Atlanta rap pioneer André 3000 is making his official return to music. On Tuesday, Andrè made the surprise announcement during an interview with NPR. Andrè’s new album New Blue Sun is set to be released on November 17th, this Friday! Significantly, this is André’s first full length solo album.
André is full of surprises
Although André’s return settles almost two decades of anticipation anticipation, this album comes with a twist. During the interview with NPR, he revealed the project will not include lyrics, instrumentals, or anything vocal. Andre will be substituting his lyrical ability with flutes on this 8 song project. He also noted his knowledge of what fans expected from his debut. “In my mind, I really would like to make a rap album. So maybe that happens one day, but I got to find a way to say what I want to say in an interesting way that’s appealing to me at this age,” André said. He also revealed his hesitation about the perception of the album to a new audience. Additionally, he shared the album with Frank Ocean and Tyler The Creator for their opinions.
André’s last album
Moreover, it has been 17 years since André’s last project. Significantly, the project was with his former group member,Big Boi, prior to the disbanding of their group, OutKast’s last full length album was Speakerboxxx/The Love Below in 2003. This project produced singles such as “Hey Ya!,” “The Way You Move,” and “Roses.” This past October, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below became the best selling rap album of all time. The album is now 13x platinum.
Furthermore, André 3000’s latest offering is seemingly nothing short of his creativity. The 87 minute long project includes cleaving song names such as the albums opening song “I Swear, I Really Wanted To Make a ‘Rap’ Album but This Is Literally the Way the Wind Blew Me This Time.” Are you excited for André’ 3000’s new album?
