New Music Friday: The best new songs that dropped this week

best new songs

This week’s list (April 21) of best new songs is the driving force that’ll navigate you to good fortune. From Wiz Khalifa‘s “Why Not Why” to NLE Choppa‘s “LOCK IN,” you will stop at nothing to move toward your goals. Our selection below is the perfect add-on to a full-time grind sesh. Continue reading to find out how:

Wiz Khalifa – “Why Not Not Why”

Wiz Khalifa’s bouncy West Coast-styled banger, “Why Not Not Why,” is about taking chances in life. Instead of playing it safe, the Laugh Now, Fly Later MC advises others to risk it all. The bass-heavy offering also finds Wiz Khalifa telling others why it’s best to keep it real. Instead of faking the funk, he encourages individuals to live in their truth. Wiz also addresses unsupported claims made against him, ensuring cap on every single one.

The hip-hop veteran’s only concern is to “never slow when it comes to this shit.” Wiz’s newest record comes on the heels of his project Star Power. The 23-track offering, which dropped in February, features Rocky Fontaine, Johnny Juliano, Lavish, Chevy Woods, and more. Recently, he also dropped “Peace and Love” and “Don’t Text Don’t Call.” One notable lyric goes, “Why not go hard every day? I won’t settle for less/Want my own little piece of the pie.”

Trinidad Cardona – “Make Me Wanna”

Prominently known for his honest lyrics in his viral Tik-Tok hit, “Love Me Back,” Trinidad Cardona is back with “Make Me Wanna.” The song, which samples Usher’s song of the same name, finds Trinidad Cardona speaking about a situationship that his paramour hopes can blossom into something more. As he asks, “Since when did you get morals?” Cardona begins to entertain the thought of becoming a couple. He concludes that he just can’t be apart from this special lady. Produced by June Nawakii, the beat merges pop, R&B, and electro-house elements creating a solid foundation for Cardona to be vulnerable. Trinidad Cardona was recently featured on Gael Stone‘s afro-beat record, “Fantasy.”

SAGA BOUY – “DRUNK OFF LOVE”

SAGA BOUY, formerly known as Jabari Manwa, discovers that breaking up with his partner would be best for both of them in “DRUNK OFF LOVE.” The hype pop meets Jersey Club beat finds SAGA BOUY ruminating about a relationship that shouldn’t have been more than platonic. Although they came together to settle their differences, there was never a resolution. SAGA BOUY concludes that it’s best to go their separate ways. He even sings, “From now, it’s memories/I loved how it was you and me/I know we thought we had it figured out/But we never gonna figure this one out.” The song serves as a breakup melody that’s bound to help you heal.

Abby Jasmine – “SRT”

Premiering her new single on Amethyst Collab’s Thee Purple Room, Abby Jasmine reaffirms how she isn’t in the same tax bracket as the middle-classers in “SRT.” In just two minutes, the Staten Island New Yorker holds back no punches as she hits egotistical men and her opps where it hurts. “You don’t want to see me where I come from/I be treating niggas like they sweeter than some Dum Dum’s,” she forewarns. “SRT” also sees Abby Jasmine rightfully flexing about her lavish lifestyle and having the means to provide for her loved ones. Sonically, Abby’s hypnotic range blends effortlessly with the light trap beat.

NLE Choppa – “LOCK IN”

Fresh off of Cottonwood 2 (Deluxe), NLE Choppa’s “LOCK IN” dives into his innermost thoughts. Moreover, the somber yet bass-heavy trap offering gives NLE Choppa leverage to be his most vulnerable. From a lyrical perspective, the “Shotta Flow” artist uses an offbeat cadence to speak on disloyalty and other trials and tribulations he’s endured. As the title suggests, NLE Choppa explains how he’s kept his eye on the prize. The result manifested success for the rapper who spits, “My focus up, my paper up, I’m feelin’ polished.” The song also exhibits what the results of hard work and dedication will take you.

IDK – Mr. Police

A highlight from his upcoming album, F65, “Mr. Police” centers on racial profiling and police brutality. Honing into a more R&B sound this time around, IDK sings about a particular cop who has it out for him. But luckily, he combats their malicious attempts with proof of his rights. As the jazzy beat builds up, IDK delivers, “Mr. Police, how are you?/ I know my rights, I’m no fool/You question me, I don’t know shit/My lawyer told me to close my lips.” The song also shows the power behind having a voice. One user said about the song, “Most of the time, we see the events unfolding the aggregated assault on POC are short and not really explaining much of what happened. But this art piece adds layers to the missing parts of police brutality.”

Twin Hector – “Mind Games”

Following up on a string of astounding album releases since 2020, including his collaboration with girlfriend Blac Chyna, “Loving You Is Easy,” the LA-based singer-songwriter is capturing various emotions and elements of storytelling throughout the project. The project is dropping along with a music video for “Mind Games,” which is one of the focus tracks of the album.

Singles such as “Mind Games” already mirror the introspection, contemplative nature that comes with being in a relationship and Twin Hector captures this emotion vividly.

Executive produced by SGKidHazel (@sgkidhazel) and AbhiPemm (@abhipemm), ‘You’re Probably Thinking 2 Much,’ is set to be a classic.

Armani White, A$AP Ferg – “Silver Tooth”

Gold-certified West Philly rapper Armani White has released his latest single, “SILVER TOOTH,” featuring A$AP Ferg. The song is already generating buzz across social platforms, with early teasers on TikTok capturing the attention of fans and influencers alike.

Armani shared his thoughts on the making of “SILVER TOOTH,” saying, “This was another
moment where soon as we came up with the beat, the lyrics just gravitated towards me. Ferg came through and doubled down on the hype energy! It almost feels like we have a formula for making good songs at this point haha.” The upcoming single samples the classic Bow Wow song, “Take Ya Home.”

“SILVER TOOTH” showcases Armani’s playful and energetic side, with catchy hooks and
impressive lyrical abilities that highlight his unique style. With a captivating performance on
Jimmy Fallon, a comical bell-ringing during a Sixers game, a string of performances at SXSW and many more demonstrations of his talent, the sky is truly the limit this year as he prepares for the first installment of his label debut.
