Coi Leray – “Can’t Come Back”
Coi Leray bids adieu to a lover who isn’t good for her well-being in her elusive hip-hop cut “Can’t Come Back.” Accepting things for what it is, Coi Leray tells this person that although they broke her heart, the relationship served as a learning lesson. The rapper-singer also details her ideal partner, crooning, “I just want you to lower your tone/Tell me please and thank you and open up my door/Show me that you want me/Baby, show me off/Show me this is timeless.” As Coi Leray makes it apparent that she doesn’t give out second chances, the New Jersey musician showcases her high self-worth as well. She delivers, “Pick the right choice, baby/I’m not average/If I like what I see, then I can have it.”
JT – “Okay”
JT’s crunk-inspired trap offering “Okay” proves that the City Girl and her peers are in a different lane. As the beat blares through the speaker, the rapstress drops bold bars about being an IT girl, her success, beauty, charm, and more. Similarly, JT humbles the women who are feeling themselves too much, spitting, “Cheap a*s veneers, you stay talkin’ s**t/Put a marker to this b***h, she’s so counterfeit/I’m the baddie and the CEO/Got the b***hes shakin’ a*s in videos.” The song itself highlights JT’s confidence and ability to bounce back when life is testing her. Lyrics like “I‘m pretty than a motherf**ker, h*es be lookin’ okay/She think that she f***in’ with me, is this b***h okay?” showcase the song’s overall theme.
Matt B – “My Light”
GRAMMY-nominated artist Matt B delivers doting lyrics about his true love in “My Light.” Catapulted by the warm afro-beat meets R&B production, Matt B’s soothing singing range expresses how much he adores this special someone. The musician offers to do whatever it takes to keep a smile on her face. “Tell me what you want is it affection?/Is it money, is it love, is it emotions?,” he croons. “I get everything for you/You can mention them/I go sing you love anthems.” Elsewhere in the single, Matt B reveals that this woman means the world to him. Lyrics like “When I’m with you, I’m senseless/Girl, I think I’m obsessing/Girl, I think you’re a blessing/For your case, there’s no stressing me/You cool me down with your water” take the narrative home.
UNA MIA – “Too Much”
UNA MIA describes the truer meaning of love-bombing in her emotive song “Too Much.” Through her silhouette vocality, the songstress questions her suitor’s approach toward a relationship that barely started, insisting that he’s moving way too fast. “You confuse a fantasy for a real life,” UNA MIA croons. “You confuse our little thing for a real wife/This illusion only draining my energy.” Before the single ends, UNA MIA defines this kind of behavior as obsession and suggests that she’s not interested in continuing what they had. The new record was initially teased during her On The Radar performance on April 16th.
1Up Tee – “Accountability Pt.2”
In his newest piano-ridden trap single, 1UpTee pushes others to take “Accountability Pt. 2” for their actions. Over the gloomy toned production, 1UpTee rhymes about people who refuse to accept blame for what they’ve done. In his introspective raps and West Coast flow, 1Tee delivers, “You stuck in your ways and you don’t wanna really hear it/But the hardest place for motherf**kers to look is in the mirror, blame you/Take accountability.” Overall, the song expresses how life is just a process of trial and error. But it’s up to others to want better for themselves.
Pressure 9X19 – “Philly Boy”
Pressure 9X19‘s daunting hip-hop offering, “Philly Boy,” is plastered with Spanish rhymes. Lyrically, he raps about his notoriety in Philly and his upbringing. In less than three minutes, Pressure 9X19 details his lavish lifestyle, how he deals with haters, his charm, and much more. Similarly, the Latin MC speaks about his go-getter mentality and how staying dedicated helped him rise to the top. One notable lyric goes “La música y la calle las mezclo y ese es mi éxito (La Presión).”
