Trippie Redd – A Love Letter to You 5
Trippie Redd’s highly anticipated album, A Love Letter to You 5, is the fifth installment of his A Love Letter to You series, which first kicked off in 2017. The 19-track offering contains features from Lil Wayne, Roddy Ricch, The Kid Laroi, Bryson Tiller, Tommy Lee Sparta, and Skye Morales. The theme in ALLTY 5 revolves around love, appreciation, and vulnerability. The L.P. arrived one week late due to some apparent sample clearance issues.
DJ Khaled – “Supposed To Be Loved (feat. Lil Baby, Future, and Lil Uzi Vert)”
Playing on the theme of adoration is DJ Khaled’s “Supposed To Be Loved (feat. Lil Baby, Future, and Lil Uzi Vert).” The highlight off Khaled’s ‘Til Next Time samples Michael Jackson’s “P.Y.T.” From a lyrical standpoint, the three rappers express how they’d like to properly treat the woman who’s caught their eye. Future, Lil Baby, and Lil Uzi Vert also explain why their ladies have captivated their hearts. “I’m tryna love you like you ‘posed to be loved (Tryna love you like you ‘posed to be loved)/She know I’m a thug, she don’t treat me like no rapper/See you comin’ up, I can make that shit faster,” they deliver in the chorus.
Uncle Waffles – Solace
Multi-platinum, international DJ-producer Uncle Waffles has officially dropped her E.P, Solace. The project utilizes Amapiano grooves and atmospheric arrangements, all while remaining in an upbeat tempo.
“Solace is a representation of the grace that followed me and gave me so much peace and happiness, Uncle Waffles explains. “It’s a mirror into how beautiful this journey continues to be, the blessings I’ve received within this journey, and the unexplainable feeling of gratitude that this journey chose me.” One record from the project, “Echoes (feat. Tony Duardo, Manana, and Lusanda),” finds the Princess of Amapiano trying to find a way to make a relationship work. Lyrics like “Maybe we can try to compromise/A different version of us, a reprise” drive the narrative home.
French Montana – “Good Summer”
Interpolating Wayne Wonder‘s “No Letting Go,” French Montana’s new bass-heavy single finds the rapper reflecting on the kind of woman he wants as his other half. French Montana also reflects on the perks of his fame, all while dropping advice to men who felt jaded by previous partners. He says about the record, “It was magic watching bounce music, island classic, and New York gritty rap come together for a summer banger.”
Illa J – “No Traffic”
Illa J pulls all the stops to deliver his inspirational hit, “No Traffic.” While utilizing a bouncy flow, the Detroit-born singer/rapper/producer drops rhymes about his excellence, perseverance, and remarkable pen game. The fun-spirited hip-hop cut also compliments the artist’s versatility. “‘No Traffic’ was originally supposed to be an Intro track with just Dank (of Frank N Dank) talking over my instrumental,” Illa J explains. “However, after I built the beat around his vocals, I ended up vibing to it so much that I had to rap on it.” His latest single is the first of many bangers from the upcoming album No Traffic which debuts September 1.
Tony Shhnow – “Go Get Da Win”
Tony Shhnow’s “Go Get Da Win” is about keeping your head low and staying on the grind. The bass-heavy energetic trap cut matches Tony Shhnow’s ambition-centered bars and pristine offbeat flow. In the Donna Summer-sampled single, the Georgia-based rhymester also slides in some flex-worthy bars, tough talk, and how he envisions his next partner. Shnnow is a pioneer of the plugg subgenre of trap music.
