Check out our list for the best new songs that dropped this week.
French Montana – “RATATAAAAA (feat. 2Rare)”
Jersey club seems to influence the hip-hop scene these days. More recently, Ice Spice used this style in “Actin A Smoochie,” while Lil Uzi Vert rode one of these beats for “I Just Wanna Rock.” Now, French Montana is taking a turn at it. Accompanied by French’s laid-back cadence, “RATATAAAAA” takes on the role of a party banger. From a lyrical standpoint, the “Project Baby” rapper reaffirms that he’s HIM. Elsewhere, he compliments a woman who has it all together. 2Rare follows the same concept, except he melodically delivers his pocket of rhymes. This new record comes on the heels of his collaborative EP with DJ Drama called Coke Boys 6
Although she’s already dropped the song on her fourth studio album, the Record Of The Year Grammy winner enlisted her good friend, SZA, for a rendition. While it still obtains that same dark boom-bap meets R&B feel, SZA’s vocals give “Special” that extra pizzazz. In her verse, the singer-songwriter mirrors the original cut’s theme. Moreover, SZA unveils how she deals with negative comments, implying that she remains unfazed by the he say, she say. The SOS hitmaker also addresses those who tell her she’s overly emotional about these remarks. “You call it sensitive and I call it superpower/You just like empathy ’cause you think it gives you power/All I know is only God can judge me/I don’t hide my heart, I wear it on me,” she sings.
Smino – “Smi Myself & I (freestyle)”
The Luv 4 Rent hitmaker lyrically annihilates Beyonce‘s “Me, Myself & I” with complex one-liners and braggadocious bars that deserve the highest recognition. The themes in “Smi, Myself & I” center on his come-up, success, and how he rides for his community. The versatile musician also takes little time to silence the smack-talkers. As he keeps his foot on the gas in this two-minute record, Smi affirms why he’s in a whole different lane than his peers. From his smooth cadence to assertive wordplay, the St. Louis rapper’s new song exemplifies how he’s “‘nice with it and switches flows like h**s do when they bondin’.”
Fridayy – “Shoot (feat. Ty Dolla $ign)”
Following his breath-taking performance at the Grammy’s alongside DJ Khaled, Rick Ross, Jay-Z, John Legend, and Lil Wayne for their hit record “GOD DID,” Fridayy is back with several bangers of his own. On Wednesday, the Philadelphia artist dropped a deluxe version of his Lost In Melody EP. “Shoot (feat. Ty Dolla $ign)” seems to be a fan favorite thus far as it contains motivational wordplay and a 2000’s R&B aesthetic. On this record, both singers reflect on the non-believers who suddenly have an ounce of faith in them following their success. However, they refuse to be blinded by these individuals’ deceit and instead keep a sharp vision. The piano keys, dark base-line, and R&B elements solidify how they’re the roses that grew from the concrete. “Prayed I’d get some money, now I’m feelin’ blessed up,” they deliver mid-chorus. “Me and all my n***as workin’ like we stressed.”
FaZe Kaysan – “Black Ops (feat. Kyle Richh, Jenn Carter, TaTa, Dee Billz, C Blu, and Kenzo Balla)“
The Drill scene all-stars team up to spit their most ruthless bars on “Black Ops.” Sampling Michael Myer’s theme song, this bass-heavy Kaysan cut is bound to get your blood pumping. Lyrically, they waste no time taunting their haters. Between all the not-so-light threats lies a promise to dead anything meant to deter them from getting a bag. Listening to “Black Ops,” you won’t help but to put respect on their name. The record is a tell-off to those boldly “talkin’ on 4’s.” Not to mention, it stays deeply rooted in the New York drill sound. “Black Ops” is currently doing numbers on YouTube Music. This one definitely deserves a spot on our best new songs list.
Kiddo K – “Pain Melodies”
Synergizing rock and hip-hop, Kiddo K‘s “Pain Melodies” commands listeners to heed the ultimate storyline. Kiddo K brands this single as a “ghetto melody.” He uses a melodic flow between the lines to speak about the street code, saying, “take care of the ones we love ’cause we selling drugs for better things.” Similarly, he highlights the dangers that come with this rich quick scheme. The record is the fifth off his debut EP, Diary of a Project Kid.
DDG – “Delilah’s”
After getting the wrong kind of attention from a since-deleted Tweet about “all these girls being the same,” DDG snapped the focus back to his artistry with his new record, “Delilah’s.” The visual documents his time at Paris Fashion Week. Likewise, it’s a collaborative effort between the VALEDICTORIAN artist and WorldStarHipHop. On this video game-fashioned trap offering, DDG uses a slightly off-beat cadence to set the record straight about settling down. “Need my space/she was tryna move in soon as I hit her,” he spits in a savage nature. In the song, he also speaks about his lavish lifestyle, putting his opps in line, and seemingly taking on the role of Mr. Steal Your Girl.
Fmb Dz – “The Show”
After announcing his new project will be arriving soon, Fmb Dz dropped “The Show.” The smooth R&B cut is accompanied by a visual that finds him chilling in his hometown. As his lyrics are welcomed by a warm guitar loop and steady bassline, the rapper speaks about his come-up, making his mark on society, and even offers a word of advice for dreamers worldwide.
