Read our selection below:
¥$, Ye, Ty Dolla $ign – “Talking / Once Again (feat. North West)”
After teasing the single at his Vultures Rave in December of 2023, Ye, a.k.a Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign, have officially released their North West-assisted single “Talking / Once Again” under the alias ¥$. Sampling a chant from former cheerleaders at Wilkes-Barre Area High School, “Talking / Once Again” is an eerie trap offering that finds North West delivering confident lyrics about “taking over the year for another year.” Additionally, North tells the opps to never underestimate her. She croons, “Don’t tryna test me/It’s gonna get messy.”
Once Ty Dolla $ign hops on the record, he speaks about what he fears for his daughter, hoping she won’t go through similarly bad situations. To prevent the patterns, Ty strives to be the best person he can be daily. “That’s why I gotta break the curses that were set for me/This is hard work working, this ain’t destiny,” he sings. “My motivation is just looking at my family tree/I’m tryna make sure I contribute for the legacy.” ¥$ also dropped a visual to their single “Vultures (Havoc Version) (feat. Bump J and Lil Durk)” this week. Both songs can be found on ¥$’s highly anticipated album, Vultures.
Latto – “Sunday Service”
Latto shows others that she’s definitely not the one to play with in her slick trap offering “Sunday Service.” Delivering brutal rhymes about being unapologetically herself, Latto addresses egoistical men and envious females who attempt to bring her down. In under three minutes, the Atlanta femcee showcases that she’s got hands for anyone who wants smoke.
Similarly, the rapper seemingly wonders why others settle for less or believe they are superior. Some might take the lyrics “Think I’m the shit? Bitch, I know it, ho/Jesus walked on water, I got ice boilin’ though (Aha)” as a jab at Ice Spice too, given that Spice’s “Think U The S**t (Fart)” was a diss toward the 777 rhymester. “Sunday Service” is a highlight off Latto’s upcoming LP, L3.
Yung Miami – “50/50 “
Yung Miami‘s speaker-knocking trap cut “50/50” finds the City Girl declaring that she doesn’t need to go half on anything with someone else because she’s got it covered. As the beat goes off, Yung Miami addresses the ones who downplay her success, saying they can catch her outside. She spits, “Silly h*es hating, please address me as a boss boo/Bad b***h/Ms. turn his head when I walk through/H*e you delirious.”
Deeper into “50/50,” Yung Miami also calls out the people who are pocket-watching her, suggesting they mind the business that pays them. Lyrics like “B***h don’t check for me unless that check you got clearing/What/Ima mogul n***a/Speaking on a rich b***h” center on the song’s theme. In ’50/50 Freestyle,” Yung Miami drops assertive lyrics about her charm and success as well.
Fivio Foreign – Pain & Love 2
Fivio Foreign‘s new mixtape is a predecessor to his 2019 project, Pain & Love. Featuring artists like Vory, Popcaan, Meek Mill, Sheff G, Swae Lee, and Lil Tjay, to name a few, Fivio’s fifth studio LP upholds the rapper’s signature take on drill and adaptability to any beat on hand. Lyrically, the Brooklyn MC drops emotive rhymes about his humble beginnings, childhood, fake friends, and more. Pain & Love 2 was first teased in December after Fivio Foreign dropped his 41-featured single, “Get Deady.”
Before releasing Pain & Love 2, Fivio Foreign explained the project’s significance in a trailer. “With this new mixtape, I wanna show my real emotion, but I wanted to show the growth, and I wanted to show the passion,” Fivio says. “So I put it on my knuckles—pain and love—cuz I feel like these are the only two things I’ll ever fight for or I’ll ever fight over.”
Lay Bankz – “Tell Ur Girlfriend”
Lay Bankz wants to publicize her relationship with a paramour in “Tell Ur Girlfriend.” Over the 2000s-esque pop meets Jersey Club cut, Lay Bankz says she’s tired of hiding behind closed doors with the guy she admires. Although she is also dating someone else, the Philadelphia rapper says she’s ready to close the chapter for their soon-to-be love story. Moreover, Lay Bankz admits that this person lives rent-free in her mind.
She only asks for her inamorato to break up with his significant other. Lay Bankz sings in the chorus, “And if you want me, you gotta put the word in (Ah) (Uh-huh)/Go tell your girlfriend, that I’m your girlfriend.”
The song also finds Lay Bankz explaining how they became sneaky links and stating that she’ll wait for him to break up with his girlfriend. But only for a short time. “We were just friends but then came in cupid (Uh-huh) (Cupid)/The tension was buildin’, we had to pursue it (Pursue it),” she delivers.
Lil $o$o – “Enhancements”
Lil $o$o applauds all the girl bosses across the world in her bass-heavy trap offering “Enhancements.” While showcasing her avid storytelling, Lil $o$o raps from the POV of an ambitious woman in the cosmetology field. As the song continues, Lil $o$o raps about servicing her clients. Additionally, Lil $o$o explains why she stands out from others in the industry. She spits, “Come refill your lashes/You need a reattachment/You said that you in a rush/Now watch me do some magic.”
The new song shows people the relentless grind that beauticians go through on a daily basis. Similarly, “Enhancements” expresses how important their work is. “This is for them girls who do hair/And the nail techs,” she raps. “This is for them girls who MUAS and do lashes/This is for them girls clocking in doing waxes/You a bad b***h we just here to enhance it.”
