best new songs

RemixdMag’s best new songs this week give flowers to the ones who had sleepless nights and early mornings. From Fivio Foreign and Meek Mill‘s “Same 24” to Cozz‘s “Evil Ways (Freestyle),” our selection will show listeners why the hustle speaks volumes.

Read our list below:

Fivio Foreign and Meek Mill – “Same 24”

Like the title implies, Fivio Foreign and Meek Mill speak about how they have the “Same 24” hours as other people, yet choose to use it to their advantage. As the victorious hip-hop beat sounds off, Fivio Foreign addresses the ones who ask for hand-outs despite not putting the work in. “We got the same twenty-four hours, n***a/Why what’s mine gotta be ours, n***a?,” Fivio Foreign raps. “Talkin’ ’bout n***as need help, n***a, I was ‘n***as’/But I rose out of the dirt, give me my flowers.” Fivio Foreign also thinks back on his humble beginnings and perseverance.

Meek Mill matches Fivio’s energy as he drops rhymes about his upbringing, highlighting his tenacity. The Philadelphia rapper speaks about hustling to make ends meet, ensuring that his family was always taken care of. He raps, “I’m really hot ’cause I grew up without the fan on/I’m really ’bout to pull my Glock out on the landlord/I’m really like that, tell my mama we ain’t stayin’ poor.

Playboi Carti – “EVILJ0RDAN”

Playboi Carti’s “EVILJ0RDAN” is a menacing trap cut that finds the rapper addressing his opps, asserting his dominance in the hip-hop game, and detailing his charm. Similarly, Playboi Carti showcases his authentic style and unmatched pen game, rapping, “They can’t put me in no genre baby, ’cause I changed the game.” Lyrics like “I just put on my boots, ain’t worried ’bout no rain/Put a n***a down, Channel 2 front page” also bring attention to the song’s message. “EVILJ0RDAN” comes on the heels of Carti’s Travis Scott-assisted single, “BACKR00MS,” which dropped two weeks ago.

Kota the Friend – “YUMA”

Kota the Friend rhymes about “gettin g’s over rap beats” in his jazzy hip-hop offering “YUMA.” As the beat sounds off, Kota the Friend reminisces about getting lifted with his homies, working day in and out toward his goals, and keeping a positive attitude at all costs. He spits, “Hustle for my bread/A n***a done known famine/Wisdom in my dreads/It’s heavy but I manage.” As the song continues, the MC asserts that as long as he’s successful, his friends will be too. “YUMA” also finds Kota the Friend showcasing his tenacity as no challenge in life can make him back down. “Every day we having celebrations/Revelation after revelation,” he raps. “I see the struggle like tuition for the education.” “YUMA” is one of the many singles that can be found on his upcoming project, Lyrics to GO, Vol 5

Cozz – “Evil Ways (Freestyle)”

Cozz spits over a sample of Drake’s “Evil Ways” in his song that carries the same name. In his freestyle, the Dreamville MC raps about self-evolving, spitting, “I need to change/I got some things I need to rearrange/Down to my mental and my eating ways.” Additionally, Cozz raps about escaping from the pain with new ink, finding light in the darkness, and “standing out like a white shirt with a Cheetos stain.” Elsewhere, Cozz speaks about his upbringing, lyrical poise, having tough skin, and staying money-hungry and ambitious. “If I ever count the money/Know that cheese will grate,” Cozz raps. Throughout the freestyle, he drops impressive one-liners and witty rhymes seamlessly.

PxRRY and Shreta – “Only One”

PxRRY and Shreta’s “Only One” is about having a partner that feels like home. In the acoustic guitar-ridden R&B record, PxRRY explains why his special someone will always come back, implying that he’s the only one who will love her to the fullest. “Only one who’s going to make sure that your mind at ease,” he sings. “Only one you call at night for what you need.” No matter who she’s dating at the time, PxRRY is confident that she’ll always come back to him because he knows how to tend to this woman’s every need. Shreta sings from the woman’s point of view, saying, “break up to make up just for you to come and turn me out.” Like PxRRY, Shreya knows her partner won’t find someone like her. The song ultimately shows others why the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

 Chris Haze – “Everybody”

Chris Haze shows others how we share commonalities in his feel-good 2000s-esque hip-hop offering “Everybody.” While using a swift flow, Chris Haze raps about everyone experiencing a death, going through trials and tribulations, and trying to achieve their goals. Likewise, “Everybody” encourages the masses to come together. Lyrics like “Everybody hides and everybody’s trying to hide from their own s**t/See everybody dies and everybody’s going to feel the pain and they know this,” bring the narrative home.
