Ice Spice – “Did It First (feat. Central Cee)”

Serving as a single off her upcoming project Y2K, Ice Spice’s “Did It First (featuring Central Cee)” is about someone getting their lick back after their partner chooses to be unfaithful. As per the chorus, she raps, “If he cheatin’, I’m doin’ him worse/No UNO, I hit the reverse.” Accompanied by her right-hand producer RIOT’s bass-heavy preppy drill beat, Ice Spice glides on the track with rhymes about keeping her man hooked.

The New York rapper then implies that she’d like to keep their romance on the hush-hush. Before closing her verse, Ice Spice talks about living in the moment with her friends and reciprocating her lover’s energy. As the song continues, Central Cee raps about his dealings with infidelity. Lyrics like “Lucky for me, I deleted the message/All along, it was me and a bad b***h/But I told her it was me and my bredrin” take the narrative home. He humorously concludes that he still needs to learn his lesson about cheating. Ice and Central Cee began teasing the single earlier this week, amassing over 42 million views on TikTok.

NLE Choppa “Catalina (feat. Yaisel LM)

NLE Choppa gets his feet wet in the Latin music scene with “Catalina,” a highly energetic tune about a bombshell. The song features doting Spanish bars from emerging Dominican rapper Yaisel LM. On “Catalina,” NLE Choppa details why he’s drawn to a particular baddie. “I done seen all type of girls, all the girls in the world,” he raps “Straight hair and the curl, big booty, petite, the in-between type of girls/They ain’t f**kin’ with you, girl, what’s a diamond to a pеarl?” Elsewhere, the “Slut Me Out 2” rhymester illustrates a sensual moment in hopes of wooing his lady. Before “Catalina” ends, the two musicians shower their ladies with compliments. “‘Catalina’ is an entirely different market than what I’ve been doing before,” he told Hypebeast. “My current approach to my music is ‘unpredictable,'” he adds. “I want people to keep guessing, ‘What is he gonna do?'”

9lives – “Abu Dhabi (feat. Lancey Foux)”

Lancey Foux exudes confidence as he rhymes about impressing a baddie with his impressive whip in 9lives’ new song “Abu Dhabi.” Over the Afrobeats, Grime, and Drill 9lives-produced beat, the British rapper drops bars about “making the money shake/Abu Dhabi,” his lavish lifestyle, and being in a completely different space than his peers. Throughout “Abu Dhabi,” Lancey Foux also lays the charm on a lady who catches his eye. He raps, “Smash her see the shine coming man I’m tripped out/VVS diamonds they must’ve slipped out/I’m in the party Sean Carter rock a little style/You in the party Sean Jean drinking Cristal.”

According to 9lives, “Abu Dhabi” is for tastemakers and innovators. “I made this record with Lancey because he’s a visionary pushing the sound and culture into new avenues,” he continued. “It’s surreal. I’ve been a fan of his for so long now, and it’s come full circle.”

TAVE – “No More Maybes (feat. Bibi Bourelly and India Shawn)”

Bibi Bourelly and India Shawn express that they are fed up with indirect communication in the TAVE-produced single “No More Maybes.” The beat is a melting pot of alternative R&B, hip-hop, and pop. Throughout “No More Maybes” Bibi Bourelly and India Shawn use their respectively mesmerizing vocals to convey the importance of solid decision-making. Bibi Bourelly sings about a desire to go on a romantic getaway with her suitor. Meanwhile, India Shawn delivers transparent lyrics that allude to putting her peace before anything (or anyone else). “I’d rather be alone than get caught in your traps/N***as they be trollin,” she sings. “Can’t control me/They don’t even know me.” Ultimately, “No More Maybes” pushes listeners to relentlessly go after what they want.

MAVI – “i’m so tired”

Coming off his upcoming project shadowboxing, MAVI’s “I’m so tired” finds the South Carolina rapper open about leaning on his vices, maneuvering through hardships, and working hard to improve his life. “Flippin’ through the chicken, fingertips get stained red/Yet Benjamin nem crippin’, I can’t make it make sense, I just try to make peace,” he raps. “I‘m rollin’ with this thirty like lurkin’ with Dave East/The AMG swervin’, I was worthless on these same streets/I made it out, I ain’t too worried if they claim me.” Deeper in the song, he reflects on past heartbreaks and the setbacks he initially faced while stepping into the music industry. Lyrics like “Since then, Heaven a blur to me, every step exes hurting me/Turn to blessing and courtesy/I ate off this fork in the road” take the narrative home.
