New Music Friday: The best new songs that dropped this week

best new songs

The best new drops from the week of May 3.

Remixd Magazine’s best new songs this week include some heavy hitters. From Kendrick Lamar‘s “Euphoria” to Finesse‘s “PEAK” our picks of the week are sure to be songs you’ll add to your rotation.

Read our selection below:

Kendrick Lamar – “Euphoria”

Kendrick Lamar takes aim at Drake in his aggressive hip-hop cut “Euphoria.” Serving as a response to Drizzy’s singles “Push Ups” and “Taylor Made Freestyle,” K.Dot calls out the OVO rhymester for being a fibber, manipulator, and faking a gangster persona. Similarly, Kendrick Lamar comes at Drake for getting a cease and desist from Tupac’s family for using the rapper’s likeness in his latest single, using a ghostwriter to create his lyrics and much more. Despite this, Kendrick Lamar implies that himself, Drake, and J. Cole are the G.O.A.T’s in the hip-hop realm (contrary to his jab in Metro Boomin and Future’s “Like That.”) Lyrics like “It’s three GOATs left, and I seen two of them kissin’ and huggin’ on stage/I love ’em to death, and in eight bars, I’ll explain that phrase/It’s nothin’ nobody can tell me,” showcase how it’s all love between the three rappers. Still, Kendrick Lamar isn’t afraid to lyrically annihilate them if necessary.

Fresco Trey – Restless Mind

Fresco Trey‘s 4-track offering Restless Mind takes a page from the multi-talented artists’ internal thoughts and feelings. The themes in the 23-year-old musician’s new project speak on love, heartbreak, decision-making, and being simply carefree. From the thought-provoking record “Times Like This” to the heart-stringing tune “Heartbreak Ain’t Easy,” Fresco Trey draws from everyday occurrences that listeners can relate to. Ultimately, Restless Mind mirrors the experiences of every twenty-something, touching on the dangers of drunk driving, being young, navigating through break-ups, and more. Sonically, the project draws from genres like R&B, trap, and pop.

RINI – “Miracle”

RINI’s smooth, emotive R&B cut “Miracle” is a poignant reflection on the end of a relationship. In the single, the musician uses an ethereal vocal range to express why they won’t work out, singing, “I think we both saw the signs/I can’t be what you want/So go live your life/We made our way through the dark/Didn’t know it’d take such a toll/Watched our love fall apart//Now we’re out of control.” Deeper into the song, RINI channels into the old proverb: “If you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it’s yours. If not, it was never meant to be.” The “Your Eyes” hitmaker implies that it’s time to let go. After all, they’ve been down this road too many times before. “This love wasn’t cynical/And I don’t wanna let you go/But I think we should let it go,” he sings.

RXKNephew – “Money Can’t Replace Time”

RXKNephew describes the drive behind his go-getter mentality in his timeless hip-hop single “Money Can’t Replace Time.” Through his signature twang, RXKNephew explains how his hard work ultimately paid off in the end. At the same time, the “Yeezy Boots” artist states that money shouldn’t be one’s main focus. Lyrics like “I put on for my daughters/F**k this money, I put ’em first” take the narrative home. Elsewhere in “Money Can’t Replace Time” RXKNephew explains that effortless grinding puts you in a better position to succeed. The song can be found on RXKNephew’s upcoming project Till I’m Dead 2.

Finesse – “PEAK”

Finesse’s speaker-knocking trap offering “Peak” contains braggadocio rhymes that highlight the rapper’s success, charm, and career ascension. In a matter of minutes, the Dallas-native rhymer compares his accolades to feeling a rush. As the song progresses, Finesse flaunts his impressive jewelry and eye candy, rapping, “The diamonds is not Blvgari/But still they buss.” Secondly, he delivers, “The a*s so big/I’m asthmatic/She down with the s**t/All the antics/She certified as a freak/I gotta new freak of the week.” Finesse’s new single is accompanied by a music video that was shot in the mountains up west, symbolizing his meteoric rise in the hip-hop industry.

Myaap – “Rotation (feat. Nedarb)”

Myaap encourages baddies across the world to shake their money-makers in her energetic hip-hop cut “Rotation.” In under three minutes, the “Getting To It” hitmaker flexes on the haters, implying that she wants all the smoke. Despite having different attributes from others, the rapstress also makes it known that she can still throw things into rotation, adding in a series of braggadocio lyrics like “I got a little booty/But this motherf**ka jiggle/When I throw it back/See it popping through the middle.” Before the single closes, Myaap details her accolades, declaring that she got it out the mud . Myaap’s new single follows her West Coast-esque record “Actin’ Up (feat. Chicken P).”

Thomas Orlina – “Tell Me Your Name”

Thomas Orlina‘s dance-infused single “Tell Me Your Name” reflects a night of romance and pure bliss. Driven by the musician’s impressive vocal range, his new single invites a lover to reveal more about themselves. As Thomas Orlina tells this special someone that they should get lost in a sensual rendezvous, he assures them that they’re in a safe space. Similarly, Thomas Orlina expresses how much they’ve captivated them, singing, “Just want you to love me/And I want you right on top up above me/C’mon let’s go to the tempo.” As per the song’s press release, Thomas Orlina’s latest single shows his fan base a more mature side to his music and creative work. The song’s produced by Luke Villemur and Leandr Rivadull of MELT Music.
