New Music Friday: The best new songs that dropped this week

best new songs

RemixdMag’s best new songs this week help people navigate through hardships. From Megan Thee Stallion‘s “Cobra” to The Main Squeeze, 6LACK, and QUIN‘s “Kinks,” our selection of records shows others that it’s okay to not be okay sometimes.

Listen to our picks below:

Megan Thee Stallion – “Cobra”

Cobra” is Megan Thee Stallion’s most vulnerable record yet. In the rock-heavy trap single, the Houston rapstress creates a story through her lenses. Moreover, Megan Thee Stallion touches on relatable topics like mental health, maneuvering through hardships, having suicidal thoughts, and infidelity. Simultaneously, Megan addresses the people who didn’t lend a hand during her most difficult times in life. Lyrics like “Why is you speakin’ on me at my lowest when you acted like you ain’t noticed?/I was trippin’, goin’ crazy/And they lowkey hatin’, so they ain’t gon’ say shit/Damn, I finally see it/I’m killin’ myself when bitches would die to be me,” bring the narrative home.

Toosii – “Suffice”

Toosii speaks about his dealings with heartbreak in his new song “Suffice.” In the melancholic trap cut, Toosii opens up about being heavily affected by a split. He wonders if he should move on or keep fighting for their relationship. Throughout “Suffice,” Toosii admits that he’s afraid of falling in love because he’s been scorned before. Lyrics like “I wrote our names on the mirror/Hoping to see it clearer/That just won’t suffice/Mama say you gotta hear her, mama, I understand/But people come and go, that’s just life” ultimately highlight the song’s theme.

The Kid LAROI – “Bleed”

The Kid LAROI leads his lyrics with a heavy heart in his newest alternative pop/rap offering, “Bleed.” The transparent record finds the Australian artist asking his former flame if it’s really over between them and wondering how she moved on so fast. The Kid LAROI follows his lamentations with a curiosity about her new relationship. Additionally, LAROI talks about how he’s been dealing with their break up, saying, “All those memories we made are burnin’ in my brain (Memories we made are burnin’ in my brain and I’m stuck in yesterday).”

The Main Squeeze, 6LACK, and QUIN – “Kinks”

The Main Squeeze keyboardist and jazz hip-hop producer Smile High, 6lack, and QUIN gives listeners the tools they need to “work out all the kinks to get a hold of everything” in their newest single. Over the jazzy, boom-bap beat, 6LACK advises listeners to take the bad with the good, sharing his own experiences with trials and tribulations. “You gotta, make time never waste time/Shame on you that’s if you waste mine,” 6lack drops in a melodic cadence. “With all the pain I done felt/Stories I done told/Pages in a book/Now watch it unfold.” QUIN also matches the song’s energy and talks about cherishing the ones you love while they’re here.

Turbo and Gunna – “Bachelor”

Turbo and Gunna’s new single, “Bachelor” interpolate James Blake’s “Do You Ever.” The piano-led trap beat flows effortlessly as Gunna describes what seems to be a situationship. “F**k is you thinkin’ ’bout/This s**t ain’t loyal, then it’s gonna spoil your heart,” Gunna raps. “Like the trash, you can take it out/Quit makin’ up shit to complain about/She lay on the couch, I’m all in her crotch/We f**k, then, we break up/We f**k, then, we make up.”

YTB Fatt and Wizz Havinn – “Real Drip”

YTB Fatt and Wizz Havinn explain what makes them different than their opposing forces in “Real Drip.” Throughout the daunting trap single, YTB Fatt and Wizz Havinn explain how they aren’t one and the same. They back up their declarations with stories about their come-up and luxurious lifestyles. The two rappers also compare their fashion game to others, stating that they rock “Real Drip.” The track comes from Wizz’s upcoming project, Super Wizz.
