songs

RemixdMag is back with its weekly roundup! This time, we’ve spotlighted songs that encourage you to live in the moment. From Nicki Minaj’s “Last Time I Saw You” to EarthGang’s “Die Today,” these singles push others to cherish what’s in front of them before it’s too late.

Read our selection below:

Nicki Minaj – “Last Time I Saw You”

Coming off Nicki Minaj’s upcoming Pink Tape 2 album is “Last Time I Saw You.” The hip-hop queen first teased the record via Tik-Tok Live on Aug. 14. On the pop-styled R&B offering, she regrets not being present with the person she’s speaking of. The “Barbie World” artist crosses between a melodic and steady rapping flow throughout the record.

Last Time I Saw You” finds Minaj speaking about a relationship that withered away due to distance and time. In a word, Nicki Minaj wishes she had done more to keep their bond strong. “So close, but we were so distant/Wish I’da known in that instant,” she raps. “Ignored the hints or I missed it.”

TOBi – “Flatline (feat. Kenny Mason)”

TOBi and Kenny Mason deliver some flex-worthy lyrics in their single, “Flatline.” Over the piano and bass-ridden aggressive hip-hop beat, TOBi raps about how he keeps “everything on shine.” Meanwhile, Kenny Mason drops some tough talk aimed at the coppers. The two lyricists also rap about their money schemes, excellence, and “beating these h**s by a landslide.” TOBi’s new record is a highlight off his upcoming project, PANIC.

Earthgang – “Die Today

WowGr8 and Olu wonder how their loved ones will react after they enter the afterlife in “Die Today.” Amongst the passionate guitar loops and funky R&B elements, Earthgang question the extent of their day ones’ genuineness. Instead of being remorseful over his impending death, WowGr8 reflects on the powerful impact he left on Earth. “They say the good die young, I’m a be the last remain,” he spits assertively. “Hate all you want, I can’t stop, I’m a force of nature.”

During Olu’s time on the mic, he uses a receptive cadence and asks how loyal his lover is to him. “Would you cross the galaxy to see me if I couldn’t move?/Baby, what you do to me could put me inside the eulogies,” the musician delivers. “Die Today” is also paired with a visual that finds people attending the Atlanta rap duo’s funeral. Denzel Curry starts the video off by reading a comical eulogy.

Coi Leray – “Isabel Marant”

In “Isabel Marant,” Coi Leray addresses the people who thought she wouldn’t be successful or criticized how she dressed. The femcee ups the score with her haters through a slew of flex-worthy bars and an inimitable drip game to match. The hyperactive trap cut also finds Coi Leray paying homage to the French celebrity designer Isabel Marant. “Tried to count me out, and now I’m big as Trippie Redd (Yeah, Red, Red)/Woo, I hope I don’t crash (Yeah, crash),” Coi raps. “Scrapin’ up the rim up on that sidewalk, ride it fast (Let’s go)/I can’t wait to pour up and cook up, up in that lab/This that brand new ring, Denim Tears, LV tags.”

The music video for Coi’s new record sees the New Jersey rapper transforming into a mermaid, entering a rager and owning it in a house of mirrors as soon as she walks on the surface. “Isabel Marant” can be found on Coi Leray’s new EP, Blue Moon.

Curren$y – “Slide (feat. Fendi P, G-Style, and Dominic Scott)

Curren$y enlists JetLife recording artists Fendi P, G-Style, and vocalist Dominic Scott for his new single “Slide.” Over the slick, jazzy hip-hop cut, the three rappers drop some tough talk that’s aimed at the s**t talkers. They also deliver clever rhymes about their charm, prominence, and pen game. “Slide” can be found on Curren$y and JetLife recording’s upcoming LP, Season Opener

YNP Maine – “Aventador”

On “Aventador,” YNP Maine asserts that nothing is getting in the way of his success. Over the bass-heavy trap cut, the rapper reflects on a dark time he faced with a family member, dealing with fake love, how far he’s come in his career and more. “Lil bro only 15 years old but like a blade tryna’ spin/Don’t know who all in this whip cause yeah the window yeah 5 percent,” YNP Maine raps. “Ain’t believe it when I showed ’em love and they turnt they back on me/but I ain’t trippin ’cause now I’m gettin paid just to rap on beats.”
