You can read our selections of the best R&B songs to add to your Valentine’s Day-themed playlist below featuring Muni Long’s “Hrs & Hrs”, Sade’s “Cherish The Day”, and more:
1. Muni Long – “Hrs & Hrs”
No one can deny that R&B singer/songwriter Muni Long doesn’t have star potential after the success of her smash single, “Hrs and Hrs”. I think her greatest strength is her songwriting ability. She’s able to have very intimate lyrics without being overly sexual, which is what R&B is about. Muni is able to get away with lyrics like “You sit me on the counter, instantly it’s thundershowers!” by using subtle innuendos.
2. Sade – “Cherish The Day”
I had to take it back with this 90s classic. This track is perfect for Valentine’s Day, for how soothing and seductive it is. This therapeutic ballad absolutely deserves to be on your playlist.
3. Drake & 21 Savage – “Spin Bout U”
By far, this song might be the best track off of Her Loss off the strength that it hits every single time. It’s just one of the most romantic songs I’ve heard in a while as they trade bars about the extreme measures they’ll go to make their lover happy. The hopeless romantic in me loves it when 21 says “American Express, you can have it all, Code to the safe, you can have it all.” Because I’d do the same.
4. Future ft Rihanna – “Loveeeeeee Song”
Everyone knows that Future is the “king of toxicity”, but his music miraculously makes it seem not as bad. This song is for the toxic lovers out there. Everyone isn’t lucky this year to be in a healthy loving relationship. Future and Rihanna’s voices go so well together that you can feel the emotions between them blending their vocals together. And to sweeten the deal, Future drops off one of the most iconic lines ever with “I don’t want to give you the wrong impression, I just want to give you love and affection.
5. Michael Jackson – “Lady In My Life”
This song embodies why MJ is one of the best to ever do it. It’s the best love song Michael has ever sung, thanks to its sensual lyrics and his beautiful harmonies. This masterpiece truly transcends space and time. If you don’t believe in love, this song has the power to change your mind.
