What city are you from/ Where are you based now?
Weymouth, Massachusetts and am currently based out of Quincy, Massachusetts.

How did you get your artist name, Ca$o?
Ca$o just mad sense. I’m an extremely creative person. I don’t just rap, so I needed something that would give me the opportunity to explore creatively. Ca$o just happened naturally.

When did you know that you wanted to pursue a music career?
I wrote my first rap in second grade, kinda just kept it going. My dad came here from Belo Horizonte, Brazil to pursue music when he was 18. He’s still in a band currently, but he’s told me countless stories about me when I was 3-4 begging to go to the studio with him and I would end up helping write songs for his band. I’ve always loved music, never really had any other option.

Has your upbringing played a role in shaping who you are and defining your sound today? If so, how?
100%. Like I mentioned before about my dad being a musician. I’ve always been obsessed with music. I have so many influences because I listen to everything. Brazilian music, rock, blues, funk, I just listen to everything. And being able to appreciate it all really has molded me as an artist.

How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you?
Authentic. It’s me through and through. I don’t really sound like anyone but myself. I have so many different styles, I mix so many different elements. It’s just me.

What ultimately inspired you to dedicate yourself to a music career?
My love for it. I don’t go a single day without making music and I haven’t stopped since I started. It’s a part of me, I know for 100 percent this is why I was put here [on Earth] so I’m going to make sure I make it happen. I’d also say my father being the creative he is and my mother. Since the day I was born, my mom hasn’t worked less than two jobs, sometimes up to three or four at a time. I want to make sure she gets to relax and live a good life — same for all my brothers.

What’s one reason you are passionate about music and what inspires you?
The effect it has on people. When you’re up, or when you’re down there is going to be a song that’s for you in that exact moment. It’s amazing. It literally saves peoples lives. It definitely saved mine.

Who are some of your main musical influences?
My dad because of how creative he is. My brother Justin Clancy, I’ve learned a lot from him. His sound is so unique it’s a breath of fresh air. Gotta be cliche and say Drake, especially during the winter time on the East Coast. Myself too, always trying to do better with each record. I could name people all day but you get the idea.

What are some of your music career goals for the future?
Plaques and Grammys. Coming for everything, longevity at its finest.

Tell us about the project that you are promoting. What is it about? Is it a single or EP? Also, what is the name of the last project you released?
This new project is an EP, it’s called Colours and will be out August 3rd. I have a condition called synesthesia, which is basically when certain sounds, tones, and numbers trigger sensory nerves in my brain and create colorful patterns. A ton of artists actually have it, I thought I was the only one til a few years back I actually found out it had a name. Anyway, each beat on the project represents a color in my logo. One of the songs “Bygones” was just released with the most amazing video I’ve shot to date with @ShotByTanj as a single leading up to the project. I engineered the whole thing at my apartment, super proud of it. It drops August 3rd. My last EP was called Sky Captain. Some of the best records I’ve ever made are on that project. Extremely solid work.

What has the response been like to that project?
Amazing. Definitely everyone’s favorite work to date! Streams were through the roof.

What are some projects you’ve done in the past that you are most proud of and why?
Definitely my most recent two EPs. Sky Captain was amazing and Colours is a turning point in my current career. They just feel so genuine, unique, and authentic.

What message do you hope fans take away from your music?
Always be you. Be unique. Life is so short and we’re so wrapped up in other people’s lives and what’s popular. Leave a mark on the world. The chance of you being born as you, in the body you’re in, with your conscious and in the place you’re from is so slim that it just proves you’re here for a reason.
