“While making this song, I was thinking about what I would say to a female best friend who I liked more than a friend,” he explains. “This became an ode to me pouring out my feelings while I’m drunk or letting the liquor talk. Fun fact. I was at home watching Love Don’t Cost a Thing when I came up with the idea for the hook. So while recording this in the studio, I put myself into the role of a movie character to drive the narrative home.”
