Coachella 2025 Weekend 1: Best hip-hop & R&B moments you might’ve missed

Coachella

Coachella 2025 Weekend 1 delivered everything fans hoped for, and then some. From surprise guest appearances to iconic reunions, the desert came alive. Whether you were front row or watching from your phone, this year’s festival proved that Coachella is here to stay. And more importantly, the memories made over the weekend are irreplaceable.

With so much happening across multiple stages, it was easy to miss a few unforgettable moments. From Megan Thee Stallion’s all-women powerhouse set to Missy Elliott’s futuristic performance and GloRilla’s out-of-this-world visuals, the festival was one to remember! Here’s everything you might’ve missed from the hip-hop and R&B side of Coachella 2025 Weekend 1.

Megan Thee Stallion’s Star-Studded Set

Megan Thee Stallion delivered a high-energy performance that became one of the festival’s most talked-about sets. She surprised fans by bringing out Queen Latifah for a powerful rendition of “U.N.I.T.Y.,” Victoria Monét for “On My Mama,” and Ciara for a nostalgic performance of “Goodies.” Despite technical issues that cut her microphone during “Mamushi,” Megan continued performing, showcasing her professionalism and dedication to her fans.

Missy Elliott’s Futuristic Performance

Hip-hop icon Missy Elliott made her Coachella debut! She surprised the audience with a futuristic-themed set, featuring a medley of her greatest hits. When Coachella’s 2025 lineup dropped in November, Missy Elliott hinted she had something “out of this world” in store—and she definitely delivered.

Ty Dolla $ign Brings Out YG, Blxst, Tyga & more

Ty Dolla $ign’s set was super fun to watch. He brought out special guests from YG, Blxst, Tyga, D-Loc, Roddy Ricch, Leon Thomas, and Wiz Khalifa. TY$ showed up to festival in interesting attire: handcuffs and a face mask. The statement here was to spotlight his brother, Big T.C. who is currently serving a life sentence. Thus, his set revolved around a jail cell and prison yard.

GloRilla’s Thematic Performance

GloRilla brought the energy to her Coachella performance. The crowd was lit watching her perform tracks such as “HOLLON,” and also teasing new music. Moreover, she brought an alien-themed performance to the stage. She also previewed a new track that samples Keyshia Cole’s “Love.”

Tyla and Becky G’s Debut Duet

Tyla made her Coachella debut memorable by inviting Becky G to perform their duet “On My Body.” The collaboration was a celebration of their recent Billboard Women in Music Impact Award recognition. Tyla has been making headlines all weekend. Some of the commentary included her fashion choice, as she performed in archive Dolce & Gabanna. Furthermore, she was spotted dancing backstage with her friends after getting off stage.

Three 6 Mafia brought out Project Pat, Wiz Khalifa, MGK, and Travis Barker

Three 6 Mafia absolutely killed their Coachella performance. However, social media couldn’t help but notice that the crowd was lackluster during their set. “Three 6 Mafia did not disappoint, but that crowd did,” one person tweeted. Another wrote, “The crowd does not deserve to see Project Pat—like, how are you just standing there while Three 6 Mafia is performing?” A third viewer echoed the sentiment: “Watching the Coachella livestream makes me cringe, how are you not moving during a Three 6 Mafia set?”

Still, the legendary group held nothing back. Their 16-song performance was stacked with fan favorites like “Who Run It,” “Tear da Club Up,” and more. They even featured surprise appearances from Project Pat, Travis Barker, Machine Gun Kelly, and Wiz Khalifa. But even with all that star power and nostalgia, the crowd’s lackluster energy was hard to ignore.

BigXThaPlug Proves He’s The Biggest, The Largest

Everything’s bigger in Texas, and BigXthaPlug made sure to live off that mantra. Fresh off his newest song, “All the Way” with Bailey Zimmerman, BigX made a powerful Coachella debut on Sunday (April 13). The Gobi Tent was packed wall-to-wall with fans. “This is now 6Chella,” he said on stage. He shouted out his 600 Ent. movement and staking his claim on the festival.

Shaboozey Is No Stranger To Coachella

Shaboozey is showing the people why he’s no one to play with. He performed a set of his fan-favorites and brought out Noah Cyrus as a treat for fans. The two performed their collaboration “My Fault.” Fans were quick to point out the two’s chemistry. “Shaboozey and Noah have great charisma performing together,” someone wrote on X. “That Coachella performance from Shaboozey was incredible,” another person said.

All in all, Coachella Weekend 1 was one for the books. Will you be returning for Weekend 2?
