Danny Singh blends punk and R&B on hypnotic new single “WYD?”

Danny Singh

Queens native Danny Singh is carving out his own lane with a genre-blending sound he calls “Punk n B.” The singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist—who also plays in a band with his brothers—just dropped his latest track, “WYD?” With sultry guitar riffs and an intoxicating vibe, the single is already gaining traction on TikTok, racking up over six million views across all posts.

Blending elements of punk rock and R&B, Danny’s music is a sonic melting pot influenced by legends like André 3000, Sa-Ra, Frank Ocean, and JPEGMAFIA. His journey started young. Growing up in a musically gifted family, he mastered the piano, bass, and saxophone by the age of 10. By 13, he was producing his own tracks, eventually winning AfroPunk’s “Battle of the Bands.” Since then, he’s honed his craft, channeling his experiences into raw, emotionally charged music.

Earlier this month, Danny showcased his versatility with “TOXIC,” a collaboration with Colombian producer Lunas!. The club-ready track was inspired by Lunas’ real-life struggles with an on-and-off toxic relationship. “I went in the booth and wrote from his perspective, punching in line by line without any pre-written lyrics,” Danny recalls. The track’s fast-paced energy and sleek production created an instant anthem for late-night escapades.

The accompanying music video captures the rush of a night out in New York City, with Danny and Lunas! navigating a neon-lit underworld. “Danny and I just hit it off from the jump. We’re both down to try new things and push the bounds,” Lunas! shares.

Danny’s 2024 #F3V3RDR3AM mixtape, featuring tracks like WASSUP, EV0L, and S0L0, has already amassed over a million views on YouTube. With his growing fanbase and genre-defying sound, “WYD?” is his next big moment.
