Diddy and Diageo have cut ties and settled year long lawsuit alleging racism

Within the past few months, Sean “Diddy” Combs has been in headlines for a series of lawsuits. One of these being filed by singer Cassie accusing him of decades of sexual misconduct. Additionally, he settled the lawsuit within 48 hours of its filing. A lawsuit he filled last year has made its way back into headlines. Earlier this week, Diddy and Diageo released a joint statement. Mr Combs bought the DeLeon brand in partnership with Diageo in 2013.

The statement between both parties about Diddy withdrawing from their lawsuit was released. “Sean combs and Diageo have now agreed to resolve all disputes between them. Mr. Combs has withdrawn all of his allegations about Diageo and will voluntarily dismiss his lawsuits against Diageo with prejudice,” the statement, reads. Diddy accused the brand of racism and not prioritizing or giving adequate marketing their collaboration beverage, DeLeón tequila. He initially filled the lawsuit last year in which the details of the filing loss popularity overtime.

Diddy and Diageo’s partnership history

The pair have a long standing history which dates back to their partnership of Cîroc vodka in 2007. Initially, their contract was a 50/50 multimillion dollar deal between the two parties. Just seven years later, Diddy and Diageo collaborated again with DeLeón. After Diddy’s lawsuit filing, Diageo decades to part ways with the music mogul.During the statement in the lawsuit, restates that  Diddy’s part ownership has been withheld.. This leaves Diageo as the now the sole owner of both DeLeón tequila and Cîroc vodka. Diageo also owns over 200 liquor brands including Casamigos Tequila,Crown Royal, Smirnoff, Don Julio, and tons more. 

Furthermore, Diddy has pulled back from the public as he has remained the center of a series of lawsuits. Shortly after Cassie filed against him for sexual misconduct, a few more were stacked against him with the same allegations. This week it was also announced that Diddy will not be in attendance for the 2024 Grammy awards. Dispute his current nomination for ‘Best Progressive R&B’ album, Diddy has given the heads up that he will not be  making an appearance.
