Frío unveils ‘When The Texts Turn Green,’ a deep dive into his most personal projects yet

Frio

After a year-long hiatus from music, Frío (@boymeetsworl6) is back with When The Texts Turn Green, a project that encapsulates growth, reflection, and the power of manifestation. The album’s title symbolizes a period in which Frío disconnected from distractions. Meaning, he turned off his phone, and refocused on his craft. “Sometimes you have to recalibrate and truly get back to the things that matter,” he shares with Remixd Magazine.

Building on the foundation of Cold Hearts and Heated Floors, WTTTG takes a deeper dive into personal experiences and challenges. Frío describes the album’s theme as a reflection of both his own disappearance and the gradual loss of others along the way. “The sound is elevated every time we drop an album, the goal is to continue to develop new flows and new patterns,” he explains.

Furthermore, among the album’s most personal moments is “Frío Story,” an intricate narrative inspired by Meek Mill’s “Tony Story.” Frío weaves multiple real-life stories together, touching on his experiences growing up, taking jail calls from his uncle, and reflecting on the absence of his father. “After 30 years, he didn’t even recognize my face as a grown man,” he recalls about a powerful reunion with his uncle. “So things like that, very near and dear to me, I choose to elaborate on and give my listeners some real depth.”

Musically, Frío continues to blend East Coast storytelling with fluid contemporary flows. Ensuring a seamless listening experience. “I never want you skipping around the album—if you press play and don’t let it rock all the way through, it’s a failure in my eyes,” he says. Collaborations with Sammy Record, Skatey-P, and Duckman add to the album’s diversity, representing the musical talent emerging from Anchorage, Alaska.

Moreover, his time away from music only strengthened his discipline and approach. “That’s when the texts turned green,” Frío says, referencing the period when he mapped out his next moves with focus. With visuals already in the works and another project, Stop To Smell The Roses, on the way, Frío is proving that his work ethic and passion are unmatched.

“I sat down for 12 months just drawing out a plan of attack,” he says. “I was at a place of … do I step on the gas even harder to merge? Or do I just slow it down, relax, and get off the exit?”

“The way I create now stems from that peace I was able to grasp onto,” he continued. “I prayed every single day that I would be in a position to really perfect my craft, and then to just feed my true fanbase. So when I step into the studio it’s all passion.”
