Beyoncé leads with nine nominations, as Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, and Roddy Ricch follow behind with six.
The 63rd annual Grammy Awards are just around the corner, taking place on January 31st, 2021. The annual award show will be broadcast by CBS from Los Angeles, CA. To qualify for consideration for the most coveted award in music, artists must have released their music between September 2019 and August 2020.
BeyoncĂ© took the lead this year with a total of nine nominations. Bey’s record “Black Parade,” released on Juneteenth, has been nominated in four different categories, including song and record of the year, as well as nominated for best R&B song and best R&B performance. Additionally, BeyoncĂ©’s film Black Is King was nominated for best music film, and the best music video for “Brown Skin Girl.” BeyoncĂ© has also secured three nominations on her feature with fellow nominee Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage” remix. Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa and Roddy Rich followed Queen Bey with six nominations each
The Recording Academy announced a few updates to the annual show, including a renaming of the best urban contemporary album” to best “progressive R&B album.”
“This change includes a more accurate definition to describe the merit or characteristics of music compositions or performances themselves within the genre of R&B,” a statement from the Recording Academy said.
Best rap/sung performance will now be best melodic rap performance, as well as the best Latin pop album, changed to best Latin pop or urban album. Consequently, the best Latin rock, urban, or alternative album is now the best Latin rock or alternative album. Further, the best world music album category is now known as the best global music album. Additionally, there has been an update in the best new artist category, which is that artists are “no longer restricted” by releasing a certain number of albums before being considered, opening up the category to a plethora of new artists. Below is a list of nominees in several major categories. The full list of 83 categories is available here.
